Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread

Bad day of results from an Ulster POV.

The race for a playoff/ERC spot is shaping up nicely. Massive game for Ulster next week, against Benetton. After that, we should beat Scarlets but are likely to get done by Leinster and Munster, so I reckon 48-50pts is probably our max.

I mean he is a good player and all, but not the type people will be rushing to buy tickets to see play.

If you sign a Dupont or Kolbe-type player that is genuinely box office, then you might increase ticket sales.

Re: Pro cycling thread

I was on the Trouee d'Arenberg yesterday. The speed with which MvdP and the other lead riders tackle it is simply ridiculous. i arrived well on time and walked the cobbles in my hiking boots - slipped away a few times. Then an hour later these riders come barreling past at 55 km/h without a care in...

Bit of a boring P-R yesterday. Basically if VdP is involved in a classic, the rest of the field are fucked  Doubt even WVA would've been able to put up much of a fight yesterday. Likely to be similar for the rest of the year on the road with Pogi. I love watching Tadej, but there needs to be so...

Really enjoyed Stage 6 today in the Basque country.

Things go bad very, very quickly if you have an incident when descending, & it's usually dumb luck how it goes for you. I was out on just a training run one day in the Dublin Mountains, & was rattling downhill at ~50mph when I saw 3-4 sheep on the RHS of the track, while I was over on the L...

I hope everyone is OK first and foremost, but that one crash could derail the whole cycling season. It doesn't look like either of the 3 look like they'll be back racing any time soon, especially Vinny. The Giro was always likely to be a procession for Pogi, especially after WVA's crash last week. Not sure how the Stormers won that... Ulster are the Scotland of URC. They will always find a way to lose a win-able match. Having said that, delighted with how Ulster fronted up. Ulster's season is already shot. Don't think we'll make the playoffs given our form and relatively tough run-in. Tbf the Italians won the game 2 years ago after scoring the match winning try at the end, with the conversion needed to win it (I think), while this year they conceded a try at the very end.

So at least in my head, the tempered celebrations this year makes sense given the different contexts.
