Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Seems to be a lot of buthurt Welsh fans about the Lowe try.
I was amazed that it was given, but can understand it on the basis of the question asked/on-field decision.
It had no impact on the result, and we we done by a bad non-decision ourselves, so meh.
The Wales situation is a funny one ...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Just rewatched the 1st half and while "butchering" two tries is maybe harsh, Murray certainly didn't help.
Firstly when Porter was held up, the pass was head height and behind (a far too frequent characteristic of Murray's pass these days) Porter, meaning he had to start off his carry by twisting ...

Re: Ireland v France match thread
One thing that hasn't been commented here and which I think is significant, is that Ireland have proven they have enough depth to lose key players and still win. This was my only question/doubt about their RWC prospects. They have answered in style yesterday.
In fact, it looks as if France were ...

Re: France having peaked.
What we saw was that France struggled to prevent Irish possession. They could not find anyway to turn over the ball. Thst is one big change.
The other one is that France changed its tactics and try to play ball in hand, including attacking from our 22s. And we are ...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
And then Murray drops.
I think I understand the impression he butchered loads because the period around Hansen’s chance sees a couple of poor passes, him being held up and then him dropping over the line.
Had no issue with his play up to then and he was very unlucky rather than outright butchery ...

Re: Ireland v France match thread
Talk of Atonio not getting low misses the point (he didn't of course and that's relevant, but it's not the starting point). The issue is that his arm was tucked and he led with the shoulder. And this was not once referred to by anyone - ref or commentator alike.
It was a deliberate act of foul ...

Re: Ireland v France match thread
No sympathy for Penaud. He did precisely the same later on when he smashed Sexton who was punting the ball. Got the timing just right, which was all Barnes cared about, calling it as much, whilst utterly ignoring the no arms aspect.
All the talk about peaking early re teams - he's not the ref he ...

Sorry Torq but “everything humanely possible” would mean he made an effort to wrap the arms, which he clearly did not

Re: Ireland v France match thread
It’s also a great angle of the no arms tackle. Penalty try.
Yep
There was no effort made at all to tackle Lowe
It’s a shoulder charge
I wondered why that didn't come into discussion at all at the time. This has been brought up many times now i.e. what is a defender to do if an attacker ...
