Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Pollock is clearly an exceptionally gifted and able player, with a great career ahead of him. Indeed there's so much smoke being blown up his arse, they should send him to the Vatican. They'd have a new pope in no time.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I think the last couple of posts are pretty objective and fair. If we were able to field our first choice, fully fit and on form side, I think Scotland could do rather more and better, especially if the current forward-dominated approach to subsitutes were to end somehow. Yet things like ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Healey at least seems to have a vague understanding that it's best to try and play in the opposition's half. Shame about the execution though, which was erratic, putting it very kindly indeed. Thomson just isn't cutting it. Vellacot seemed quite lively and at least to have some sense of urgency and ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I don't remotely mean to suggest the dynamic environment is any sort of excuse. When it comes to backlines going offside, that's something the useless lot running the touchlines should police. I also completely agree with you re the 'keeping the game flowing' garbage. That's definitely where much of ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Ireland deserved winners and losing Russell, Graham and Zander is unhelpful.

What really hacks me off is that Ireland seem to have acquired Richie McCaw's cloak of invisibility where officials are concerned, it was so blatant and the officials kept letting them get away with being in the way and ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Wise words. One of the things that has impressed me about Glasgow under Smith's direction is how much their decision making and speed of thought and reaction have improved. These are the hallmarks of really good sides and the sort of features one notes in the better NZ and SA sides. I'm not ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I didn't know much about him if I'm honest but got a book for Christmas - "This is Murrayfield, 100 Years of History in a 100 Matches", by Rob Robertson and Peter Burns.

It's a terrific book, but they had two or three matches which they had interviewed Peter Brown about. Comes over as an absolute ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

It brings to mind Bill Dickenson (I think) supposedly dressing down one of his more mercurial players on tour with 'There's more to playing for Scotland than kicking down cludgie doors!'

I stress that I too, have absolutely no idea what transpired in France. I get the impression nonetheless that ...

Not a PR refugee, other than in witnessing its forum degenerate to the pointlessness.

And no longer resident in Glasgow, but always Glaswegian. I did work in Edinburgh for a few years, but always saw it essentially as missionary work.

Re: Scotland vs Wallabies

I'm new to the Bored and making a first pitch, so easy goes, but I thought I'd add a smallish footnote to this thread. I thought Ben White was more influential on Saturday than seems to have been noticed. His clearance kicks were top notch, getting extremely good distance and easing the pressure on ...
