You have the parse right. It's a combination of an Egyption soul and the Latin for thus.
Don't like 10A but it's all I can get from the down letters.

Morning, TB. Pity about AWJ. I've had a dislocated shoulder which was put back on the pitch.
My teammate, a hooker, had both of his go after a collapsed scrum. I visited him in the N&N hospital. He had to have his ligaments shortened. Great bloke. He nearly drowned in a puddle when another scrum collapsed in Prittlewell. We had to cope with the ruddy aircraft from Southend airport. Coudn't hear the ref's whistle.
Possibly the worst pitch I ever played on. It was like a funfair ride. Anyway, 14A
