That is what has prevented me from buying one for years. I'm an infrequent Garageband user, the free Win "equivalents" are rubbish so I use it on the ipad, I can't justify that outlay on the chance that I'd use it more and more, though the ability to use my audio interface makes it more attractive.

I'm stuck between analogue and digital, I rip CDs to itunes but I have a Spotify account. I still use vinyl and read books, so my steam-driven HP laptop which has seen three kids through A levels is still my portal to t'internet.

The kids all have Macbook pros, but they are heavy-duty users studying art or doing post-grad stuff, so there is some justification for them

Because I'm having my lunch I thought I'd look up a couple of things, my first Gateway desktop, crt monitor and printer cost around £1400 in 1995, which is around £2750 now.

It had a 125k dial up modem, 1.6MB hard drive and 16k memory installed, running Windows 95.
I had my online number as one of my "friends and family" numbers with BT, that meant I could dial up at the weekend for a pound a minute and download Usenet groups and the Open University stuff for the course I was doing.

You had to spend a lot of time in a Group chat on the phone to Gateway's call centre in Dublin where the techs would go around in a circle and sort out everyone's problems one by one, they were very good these techs.
The active speakers that came with the Gateway were really good, they lasted until a few years ago and paired with a decent sub they had a HUGE sound.

I guess my point is that my Gateway desktop was very much entry level, but cost around about what the premium models do now

Gateway was my first desktop probably a little before 1995. The monitor was enormous!!!
I thought the tech support was ok until one of the bright sparks suggested the best way to resolve my problem was to wipe the hard drive and start all over again!!!!
The packaging everythi came in was pretty cool

One of the guys I worked with was upgrading from a 486, so he sold me his motherboard and processor and I built my own.

Does anyone remember CIX? Did we really pay 500 quid a year for access?

I used to drink with the founder of Gateway! Ex US Navy radio operator, always with a buzz cut, he bought the Fleur de Lys in Dorchester on Thames, got his English friends to run it and I used to sort the cellar out for him till they learnt the ropes. When he sold Gateway, he came in the pub looking like Kris Kristofferson!..
Really nice bloke and his wife lost 20 years once the surgeons helped spend his bounty...

A Shmoo was exactly the action you describe. The guys who did this were despised and almost impossible to catch.

French team was small enough not to do this shite but depending on call levels in UK market you could end up with one of these to try and fix (with happy customers on the line).

David "Golden Balls" Beckham, is getting £150M, from Qatar, to be the face of 2022 World Cup and 'promote tourism and culture' in the country .

I hate to go all Godwin; but you have to ask how much he would have to be offered to be the face of Pol Pots Cambodia, or Hitlers Germany ?

How much money is enough Becks ?

Well if he’d been in the England football team in 1938, I expect he would have done the same as his team mates.

It’s also a bit rich expecting Beckham to be some sort of moral arbiter when FIFA have decided to hold the World Cup there and as far as I know, no Country has yet suggested they will be boycotting the tournament. So as it stands, he’s simply promoting the World Cup.

The dark side of 'pretty privilege': TikTok star Ariana Savannah opens up on struggles of being attractive

Image

A US TikTok star has spoken out about the 'bad side' of 'pretty privilege', saying she has always struggled to maintain friendships with other women due to how attractive she is.

Ariana Savannah, who has 47,000 followers on the social media platform, shared a clip about her struggles with being pretty that generated headlines and several hundred thousand views before she made it private.

"Pretty privilege is a thing, we know this, we know there's a lot of pros to that. But there's also a bad side that nobody talks about," said @arianasavannah in the video.

I don't have many girl friends and it's something I have really struggled with for a long time and I've never really understood why.

"I'm honestly completely confident that it's nothing to do with my personality at all."

She said school was tough but university was the hardest point for her.

"Girls will always be like, 'oh my gosh, I love you so much, you're so gorgeous, we're gonna hang out and do this and that'. And the time comes around and I always am left out, talked about poorly behind my back. It never makes sense because I am always, like, being so kind, and so genuine - like y'know, girl shit y'know."

Savannah said she would go home and cry to her mother about the struggles, telling her family that she found it difficult to make female friends.

"They were like, 'Ari, it's so obvious... people don't like to not be the prettiest person in the room'," she continued.

"I'm like, what are you literally talking about? Because that's not something I think about. Bitches are all pretty, I love women, everyone is a bad bitch in their own way. They're like, 'You intimidate people and like you make people uncomfortable'. And I'm like literally 'What? I'm so nice!'.

"I was so confused and thought 'this probably is not true, there is no way this is the reason my whole life I can't make girlfriends'."

Savannah said she wanted to talk about this issue often but held back because she knew she would be attacked over it.

Seeing as she made the video and a follow-up to it private, it would seem she did receive negative comments over her message.

^ :wtf:

I was in a specialist's surgery this morning, waiting for a consult, when this absolute Man-child came in with his elderly father.

The Father had to keep tapping him on the arm to be quiet - this is a guy in his 40s with a 70 Year old father.

Unreal :lolno:
