Nothing wrong with being passionate about something you really like

It wasn't a criticism, it just went from a fairly innocuous conversation on to a full blown conversation about racial diversity of a bunch of fictional fantasy characters that are not human?

Don't you know that all mythical characters are clearly white ?

I mean if we shaved all the hobbits, they'd clearly be white skinned underneath, & the elves are clearly all white. The only exception to this sea of whiteness, is the Orcs; because if we have, "White Orcs", then there must reasonably be other skin tones for Orcs !

Personally I care way more about the consistency of the character, with the original written one, rather than any racial, or other characteristic. It drove me nuts when in the film version of Tinker, Tailor, when they made the Peter Guillam character gay; not because I'm offended by LGBT characters; because the book had a bunch of them; & there's an implied homosexual relationship between two of the main characters; but rather because this character was explicitly hetrosexual, & used that as a way of getting intelligence.

Wasn't that more a case of rolling in a couple of minor characters into Guillam's? He has a minor role in the film and him being gay is only brought up as something that could be used against him, beyond that it doesn't form any major part of his character. He doesn't really do much of anything. It's not like making, say, Ricki Tarr gay.

I subscribe to Gutenberg.org to see what's what in books that have expired copyrights, mostly for the interesting art found in old adventure books, and some military journals. Today's list of new additions had a marriage guide from 1946 ... well, I never!!!

As a former hooker, I concur on scrum penalties: the Ref has no fucking idea what is going on in scrums and the awarding of scrum penalties is mostly pretty arbitrary.

I have no sympathy with batsmen who are dismissed via mankadding: as far as I'm concerned, the non striker sneaking a yard is cheating, and I see no reason why he should be warned or given the slightest benefit.

So glad I live on the south-west coast of Japan. The really scary shit was the two Bullet trains that were partially derailed by the earthquake, luckily with no injuries or deaths.
