Freeman's startingOxbow wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 7:47 am Equally you could say what did Freeman do wrong to warrant losing his place? Eddie isn't going to start Arundell and I'd rather Freeman get another chance than go back to Cokanasiga.
England in Australia
I was replying to ASMO's post above mine.
If Porter reacted to the called structures accurately, then not getting the ball in hand is unlikely to be his responsibility. With Smith kicking so poorly there were a few opportunities for a good hard run missed I imagine.
He seemed to have a decent enough game defensively and in the ruck. And still gives that straight line option even if it wasn't used.

Marchant seems to have made it onto Eddie's shit list if Will Joseph's benching ahead of him.
Jones loves to play mind games, sadly it is mostly with his own team.Kawazaki wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 9:12 am Dropping JVP is one of those Eddie decisions. No doubt he thinks he's reigning in a young buck so his head doesn't get too big or some such bollocks. He played well on debut, why not reward that?
Yep, i really don't understand why Marchant has been totally dropped. Thought arundel deserved to get a start and jvp did well enough to start again.sockwithaticket wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 8:48 am Marchant seems to have made it onto Eddie's shit list if Will Joseph's benching ahead of him.
Come on - after all this time do you really still expect to understand the random selections that Jones comes up with.petej wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 9:23 amYep, i really don't understand why Marchant has been totally dropped. Some coaches accidentally, often due to loads of injuries, chance upon a side that works - Unfortunately Jones wouldn't recognise when he's got lucky because he thinks he's a genius that can see things that no one else can.

Marchant may well have an injury of some sort as you'd expect him to bench ahead of Joseph given the gulf in experience.
What I would say though is that Joseph is a serious athlete and probably quicker than Marchant if Jones is looking to bring some pace off the bench at the end of a game when it's breaking up.
Doesn't really matter either way though as the subs are only getting 5-10 minutes at the moment.

Porter went 5/4 in defence, carried the ball all of three times, didn't pass once, and dropped it twice. He was miles off the pace and looked completely out of his depth.
Would be nice if he was alive to the concept of chasing kicks through the middle, too. Marchant feeds off those.

Chessum and Ludlam are fine, they're the next cans off the rank, but it will be interesting to see how they go from the start as opposed to off the bench.
Care I don't get. JVP just came off a fine match and should really be in possession. Care is great off the bench but I'm not sure he's as good starting. Maybe our Supreme Leader is looking to get the club 9/10 axis working.
Marchant not being picked even on the bench is just weird, but I suppose Super Jack Nowell is the 13 replacement.
Freeman probably fits the kick chase game better than Arundell and let's not pretend we won't spend most of the match looking up.

Smith had more wobbles last test than the first one, Care may be back in to take some pressure off him, partially due to the quins connection, partially due to simply being a senior player. JVP was brilliant, and I don't think that was missed, but Smith is the one we're trying to polish at the moment.Hal Jordan wrote: Thu Jul 14, 2022 1:57 pm Chessum and Ludlam are fine, they're the next cans off the rank, but it will be interesting to see how they go from the start as opposed to off the bench.

Thought Freeman was just fine.
Still suspect Marchant simply isn't 100% and so he's not being picked. OK to train, but not worth risking in a full blown test etc unless everyone else falls over.

Then they should just come out and say he's injured instead of 17D chess bullshit.
I deliberately don't start watching until we're about to get into the game, but that's nuts. Ludlam is a good player, but he's all energy, everywhere. Smith was bordering on lazy, in as much he was just always in the right place at the right time. He didn't have to work hard because he could just read the game so well.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 9:47 am Fuck me dead. "Ludlam reminds me of George Smith". If you can VPN into Oz Channel 9 has it free to air... so my friend informs me.Raggs wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 10:00 am Anyone got a decent stream? Only got the vk.com one working, would rather be able to hear the ref (and put up with the commentary).
Lovely, now to hope it's actually better quality than the "other" streams.

Yeah, much better than the last one.
It'll annoy you even more to know the comparison was being made primarily on work rate, tooRaggs wrote: Sat Jul 16, 2022 9:53 amI deliberately don't start watching until we're about to get into the game, but that's nuts. Last week was awful, the first 1 was OK, but this one was simple, respectful, didn't try too much crowd interaction but had a nice little bit.

Ironic that pen is in the same spot as the one Smith should have been pinged for.
Think it was that close they let it go. Amusingly, the one against Billy seems rather harsh for me, so I guess it evens up.
