There’s no system to it… this is just snatching at pegs to bang into holes. A first team and a second should be all about development and progression, surely? This is more like grabbing spare parts off a shelf to patch up shortfalls or poor choices.Gumboot wrote: Sun Nov 06, 2022 10:08 pm Perenara has been called into the ABs, with Weber and Fainga'anuku dropping to the "ABs" XV squad.
It's a problem everywhere; are the A's your 2nd team, or are the U20s ?Guy Smiley wrote: Sun Nov 06, 2022 10:57 pmThere’s no system to it… this is just snatching at pegs to bang into holes. Like the Barretts, there was no suggestion he was out of the tour, just time off.
In the latest reshuffle, Braydon and Ennor are now back with the ABs.Guy Smiley wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 1:24 amLike the Barretts, there was no suggestion he was out of the tour, just time off.

The 2015 RWC triumvirate of Smith, Kerr-Barlow and Perenara was as good as it gets, imho.Flockwitt wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:56 amGumboot wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:08 amIn the latest reshuffle, Braydon and Ennor are now back with the ABs.
It's getting hard to keep up...they're there, might as well use them if needed. Saves on the jet lag if nothing else. But happy to see TJ still around and won't begrudge him another cap if injury strikes. Under appreciated 74 caps for mine, integral to one of the best AB teams and a superb all round rugby player once he matured, even if his pass wasn't/isn't in Smith's class.
Agreed. We could see in the weekend how France had to play Dupont to the end of the game against Oz. The prime ABs never had that issue, and it may yet be one to bite France come the RWC.Gumboot wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:06 amThe 2015 RWC triumvirate of Smith, Kerr-Barlow and Perenara was as good as it gets, imho.Flockwitt wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:56 amGumboot wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:08 amIn the latest reshuffle, Braydon and Ennor are now back with the ABs.

I'm in the UK. I'll post here first if I get called in to either squad. If nothing else I'll raise morale in the squad with my "Razor banter".Gumboot wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:08 amIn the latest reshuffle, Braydon and Ennor are now back with the ABs.Guy Smiley wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 1:24 amLike the Barretts, there was no suggestion he was out of the tour, just time off.

Yep. We'll be left to choose between Foster and Plumtree.. the only two people left free...Ymx wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 6:45 pm It’s actually happening isn’t it.
Razor is out here right now, no doubt a lucrative contract being pushed his way. With ROG as his number 2.

Stevenson's defense is similar to his offense — a mix of the brilliant and the truly awful.Grandpa wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:22 amABC - Anyone But Clarke. Of course... I was racking my brains..![]()
Is Stevenson good on defence? I love him on attack...
And four tries in 14 tests; 3 against Argentina and 1 against Japan. Pitiful.Flockwitt wrote: Thu Nov 17, 2022 1:16 am ABC had me stumped as well. Looks like we need to find a new 10 pretty soon-ish. Don't think Perofeta's gonna be the answer... maybe McKenzie? Not sure how his recovery's going, but I'd love to see Zarn Sullivan get a decent go at 10 at some stage. Unlikely at the Blues sadly, with Beauden and Perofeta there.
P.S. Frizell's also going to Toshiba. Meh.
Sir Steve Hansen says NZ Rugby must ensure Ian Foster is happy with the All Blacks coach appointment process, or it could risk jeopardising the team's World Cup campaign.
While former All Blacks coach Hansen sympathises with NZ Rugby's predicament when determining whether to ask for job applications before or after the global tournament in France starting in September, he says whatever unfolds can't be allowed to distract the All Blacks from their mission to win the Webb Ellis Cup.
Yes, Made Sir Ian Foster before the World Cup.. as waiting till after might unsettle him...Ymx wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 6:34 pm He’ll be demanding Foster gets his knighthood next.
Sir Ian Foster.
I’ll renounce my NZ citizenship if that came to pass.

Be good employers.
Hansen believes incumbent Foster, who assisted Hansen during the latter's eight years as coach, can't afford to be disgruntled with whatever NZ Rugby decides to do.
FFS, Mehrtens was barely even on the age-group radar in 1993. After Fox's last test against Western Samoa, we tried Marc Ellis against Scotland and England (then selector Earl Kirton predicted he'd become one of our great test first fives - LOL), Simon Mannix crashed and burned in his only start against France, and then Stephen Bachop got the job for the rest of '94. Just like many of Mains' muddled selections, first five was a problem position for us pre-1995.By the time 1987 World Cup winner Grant Fox bowed out in 1993, it was obvious Mehrtens would be running the cutter at the 1995 World Cup...
I thought the same reading that... Mehrtens was a bolter in 1995 wasn't he? I think I remember his first game against Canada just before the World Cup?Gumboot wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 8:38 pm More arrant nonsense from a Kiwi rugby hack. Both think they are the voice of perpetual wisdom and constantly manipulating the local union with their egos.
Maybe not quite a bolter, as he'd caught the eye playing well for Canterbury in '94. But there's no way he was even in the ABs conversation in '93, let alone earmarked as our future starting 10 for the '95 RWC. This Tony Smith fella's just pulled that bollocks out of his arse.Grandpa wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 8:53 pmI thought the same reading that... Mehrtens was a bolter in 1995 wasn't he? Though left out of the initial training squads, Merhtens developed so much that he forced his way into the 1995 World Cup squad, having made a stunning All Black debut in the early season test against Canada when he scored 28 points.
