Gerbils are better than hamsters

"Gerbils are ideal pets for children who have little or no experience caring for a small animal. This is due to the fact that gerbils are active throughout the day and rarely bite. Hamsters, however, do not like to be petted or held. Hamsters will bite when they are held or if they become irritated"

Here's some stuff to back up what I am saying for what I worth. I mean it is not like you will ever stop watching rugby. Most of you lot would carry on watching it if as part of the entertainment, they shot baby elephants at half time.
Anyway..
Research suggests increased risk of MND by Rugby Players. In the words of James O'brien, it isn't opinion, it is counting.

Research published this week has suggested that former international rugby players may have an increased risk of developing motor neuron disease (MND).
Following the findings, MND Scotland has been asked to convene an expert group to provide advice to Scottish Rugby and the Brain Health Clinic at BT Murryfield, to look at the immediate questions and research priorities raised by this study.

The new research, published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, looked back at the health outcomes of former Scottish international rugby players – examining their health records and death certificates.

The researchers found that these international-level rugby players were more likely to have a neurodegenerative disease, compared to the general population, estimating the increase in risk as two-fold for dementia and 15-fold for MND.
If Doddie. Joost etc attempted to sue Rugby unions they would be buried and burned. Not paraded around. You won't see Ryan Jones being applauded in the Principality anytime soon.

Eddie Butler agreeing with me on rugby as a phony outlet for nationalism, and agreeing that Rugby is a detriment to Wales as a nation.
Eddie Butler.
“It is genuine passion on the day, it creates this atmosphere like no other.
“Nothing comes close to Cardiff on international day.
“But then, come Monday morning, it’s a different country.
“It goes back to how we are.
“We are a country that barely voted in favour of a devolved government and that was second time round. First time round was a clear victory for staying under the direct rule of Westminster.”
So, does Butler challenge the notion that rugby defines Welsh identity like nothing else, as many have often claimed.
“Yeah, I would,” he says.
“Rugby became almost by accident a symbol of Welsh togetherness.
Lots more here.

I've largely stopped watching rugby, except the odd game at the local club, plus England games. I find NFL coverage far more interesting these days.

I think being able to enjoy a 6Ns game and be fully behind your team on Saturday and then on Monday not have that support translate into nationalism being the nexus of your political and social views is quite healthy.

As we are sharing spicy views - Butler's 'epic' monologues were cheesy as shit and rolled out by the BBC too often

I was browsing the England thread to see what the Marler chat was and saw Kawasaki claim rugby should become like MMA/boxing and become a bloodsport. JB off the eggchasers a leading proponent of this.

I'm in two minds, rugby is obviously in a lot of trouble due to the concussion legal battles (as the NFL was) but boxing and MMA don't seem to be. There really is a limit to how safe a game based on collisions can be...

However as was said private schools aren't setting up fight clubs as their parents don't want that. Also, kickboxing and boxing participation is hardly high for a reason...

All in all, JB is talking nonsense, as per.

So elevated levels of violence to add greater risk to athletes and alienate a large section of fans AND keep it as confusing as it is now, so the people who like MMA would be more like "Why am I watching this?"

Did JB and the other geniuses not address that other sport (in JB's neighbourhood!) called Rugby League?

Re the Marler stuff - I guess that the misogyny (or perception of) won’t have helped his cause.

Listening to eggchasers I've never fully understood why they don't prefer rugby league.

Yeah I don't think the fans would be too keen because a fight every few months as a show piece event is a lot different to weekly games in terms of excitement. Also for the athletes - who wants to put their body through that weekly.
