Schools deep pockets for rugby in the Western Cape and Boland go as far as school and boarding fees sponsorship. Its only schools like Garsfontein in Gauteng that sponsor their livings like they did with Papier (Hopefield) and many coloured kids from the Boland. The big rugby schools in the winelands get double the applications then they can cater for. They have the rugby culture and coaching for kids that want to be a future Springbok.Sards wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 5:06 amYou do realise that Schools that excel at rugby and have deep pockets attract players from all provinces.OomStruisbaai wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 4:22 am We feed all the franchises. Jeez can we not find a better fly half than Matthee? He’s fucking garbage. Blommetjies isn’t good enough to be called garbage.
2 lost lineout in first half, 6 lineouts lost in a row in 2nd half. BIG problem we just can’t seem to solve.
Herschel coming on and playing like a star. He’s a player on a mission in 2025.

The loss was disappointing but the B team at least show some fight. Nearly got the win. Agree on Mathee. Vokken schocking.

The lineout issue is so annoying. After the first 3 rounds we had the best lineout in the URC. Dweba of all people have a 100% success rate! Then it all went to shit.
I don't want to point fingers or anything but the lineout worked when it was run by Van Heerden and BJD...and went to shit when Moerat and Theunissen were back in the mix.

I think Moerat is the lineout issue too. Annoying too because I watch him closely on Saturday and his "unseen work" - especially in the mauls - was excellent and I can see why coaches like him. Sadly he can't carry for shit either. The lineout issue is so annoying. After the first 3 rounds we had the best lineout in the URC. Dweba of all people have a 100% success rate! Neethling Fouche sign for 3 years until 2028. Ben Loader return to England to Glouchester.
Happy we get to keep Fouche. He is Bok quality and while he is getting overlooked by Rassie we are definitely benefiting from that at the Stormers.OomStruisbaai wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:07 pm Neethling Fouche sign for 3 years until 2028. Ben Loader return to England to Glouchester.
Sad that we are losing Loader. He has been an excellent signing.
Him and Hartzenberg have been a terrific duo. Two fast, smart and hardworking wingers.
Zas and Davids are both powerful runners, but just don't have the nous that Loader did, and Senatla is a shadow of the player he was in his prime.
We are going to miss Loader for sure.

A strong group of junior players have committed their futures to Stormers Rugby.
School rugby season is in full swing, with quality rugby being played across the Western Cape every weekend and several highly promising players are poised to make the transition to professional rugby next year.
Stormers Rugby have already secured the services of several of these star players for 2026 and beyond, which will continue the steady flow of talent into the system.
The Paarl Gimnasium duo of centre Markus Muller and loose forward Quintin Potgieter, Rondebosch Boys loose forward Alutha Wesi, centre Randall-John Davids and prop Matt van der Merwe, wing Jordan Steenkamp, hooker Altus Rabe and loose forward Gert Kemp from Paul Roos, Wynberg Boys flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed, Boland Landbou scrumhalf Jayden Brits and Grey College lock AJ Meyer have all agreed to join Stormers Rugby next year.
Director of Rugby John Dobson said that the contracting model is to look at local talent from the region first as a way to keep strengthening the pathway system which has seen DHL Western Province U21 win two consecutive national titles, with many of those players going on to feature for the DHL Stormers as well.
“This speaks to our aim as an organisation of harnessing the talent we have on our doorstep and strengthening the connection with our fans by contracting players from their communities to take our team forward.
“Of course we still keep any eye on the most promising players from around the country and will make strategic acquisitions from outside the region if we feel they will make a big difference,” he said.
Dobson said that this strong intake of local talent is extremely encouraging as Stormers Rugby look to build significant depth by drawing on the best that the schools in the Western Cape have to offer.
“We have seen a few big success stories in recent years, with the likes of Damian Willemse, Salmaan Moerat, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, JD Schickerling and Suleiman Hartzenberg all coming through our system to become household names.
“We expect the same to happen with many of these players who will join our environment next year and we are not done here, with a few more significant names set to be added to this list in the near future,” he said.
The Kenya rugby team are based in Cape Town for the next month as they prepare for RWC qualification games.

Afrikaans lot from Paarl Gimnasium go mostly to the Bulls, Klein Slaptjips. Paarl Boys to the Lions, Sean Erasmus. Paul Roos to the Stormers, Snyman. The last two years Dobson contract the best from all three. He have good contacts with the southern suburb Soutie lot coming from Bishops.Chilli2 wrote: Wed Jun 04, 2025 7:21 amJa, all those talented players will go to Pretoria now.Sandstorm wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 11:29 amDisgusting Boland poaching!!Chilli2 wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 11:13 am Oom, what is going on here? Stormers lose Manie Libbok (Sharks), Brok Harris (retired) , Herschel Jantjies (Bayonne), Paul de Wet (Bulls), Clayton Blommetjies (Cheetahs), Joseph Dweba (Exeter Chiefs) Ben Loader (Gloucester) and Angelo Davids (Lions) and Dave Ewers (retired).
Libbok and de Wet are useful. The rest are ancient or shite.OomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Jun 23, 2025 10:03 am Stormers lose Manie Libbok (Sharks), Brok Harris (retired) , Herschel Jantjies (Bayonne), Paul de Wet (Bulls), Clayton Blommetjies (Cheetahs), Joseph Dweba (Exeter Chiefs) Ben Loader (Gloucester) and Angelo Davids (Lions) and Dave Ewers (retired).
