I was thinking the same thing  We cannot afford a cheap dismissal from Kyle Jamieson.
I’m actually feeling nervous
Well he did his bit and got a century to boot

Fantastic effort from Mitchell.

And more importantly, Kyle Jamieson now averages 56.4 with the bat and 14.44 with the ball. GOAT allrounder?

His bowling average may be even better. It shows as 14.44 still on cricinfo but that’s only showing 25 wickets so doesn’t reflect his latest efforts.

Another nice stat to come from today. Highest average as captain:

1. Bradman (101.5)
2. Smith (70.36)
3. Williamson (62.8)

Jesus, he’s nearly had a wicket with every ball in this over! And would have he’d two if the umpires call was out.

Cameron Green is extremely highly rated by the Australian cricket commentators. But he is yet to show his full potential at test level. A batteing average of 22 and bowling average of zero suggests he's a work in progress. In contrast, KJ is now delivering match-turning performances every time he plays.

Well that's a good day at the park for the BCs.

There is rain forecast from mid-afternoon on Thursday, so we need to get a wriggle on.

Yes, a very good day for NZ today. The 369 run partnership between Williamson and Nicholls was absolutely superb, with both batsmen playing well controlled innings and then upping the scoring tempo as they passed their tons. Sure there was a bit of luck with dropped catches, but that is part and parcel of test cricket. The secondary partnership of 133 runs between Williamson and Mitchell was also important, and extremely entertaining, and it was great to the latter bring up his maiden test century. Let's hope Nicholls injury isn't too serious, he looked to be in significant pain late in his dig.

Pakistan toiled hard in the field, but it was a day they would rather forget. 659/6d is a hell of a score to concede in any innings, and they will sorely rue their 8 dropped catches and 2 wickets from no balls. Still no-one could argue that they gave up, and for the that the Pakistan coaching team must be pleased. The gulf in class is arguably as big as it's ever been between these two teams.

Two full days remain for NZ to take 9 second innings wickets. Whilst there is still the possibility that Pakistan could make NZ bat again, you'd have to think this is highly unlikely. Rain is possible in CHCH over the next two days, and this could make life more challenging for the Black Caps, although the weather should be mostly fine. Kyle Jamieson already has one wicket, and was unlucky not to claim a second scalp late in the day, and shapes as being the key bowler for NZ.

Abbas gone early to Southee, burns up a review in the process. Can't imagine his team will be happy with the night watchman using up a review.

The world’s oldest first-class cricketer, Alan Burgess, has died aged 100 in Rangiora.

Not a bad way to spend his last day though with this on cricinfo from his daughter:
Pip said her father had been in good form up to the end, and had spent much of yesterday watching the BLACKCAPS play Pakistan in the second Test, on TV, and had seen Kane Williamson bring up his double century.

KJ removes Sohail straight after lunch. 79-4 now and looking increasingly unlikely that the BCs will have to bat again.

And again. Guess who? Jamieson is so good to watch. Whisper it given how outstanding Boult and Southee have been for a long time, but it would be exciting to see what he could do with a new ball.

Hope someone kept the keys to the lab where we bred this bloke. 6"8. Good pace & bounce. Swings it both ways. Solid defence, hits the ball a long way, and runs well between the wickets. What a specimen.

Jamieson has 9/87 for the match, all of them top 7 batsmen, plus 30* (22). Still 5 wickets to be taken. Williamson scored 238. MoTM will be tricky.

I’ve got no issue if KJ gets it either.

Jeez, I’d love to see Southee, Boult, Jamieson and Wagner having a go at the Aussies right now.

KJ gets it easily with a 10 for. Break it down KW scored 36% of NZ's total runs and KJ has currently taken 63% of Paki wickets. Simple

I would also love to see the Aus team stay for a test series after the T20's but it ain't happening sadly.

Kyle Jamieson now has just one less 5-for than Pat Cummins.

He's also on track to be just the 2nd fast bowler this century to reach 50 wickets in fewer than 10 tests - Philander did it in 7 - if he can get 15 more in his next 3 tests + the rest of this innings. Most wickets after 6 tests is 50 set back in 1888, then Philander with 45, and A Valentine with 43 set back in 1950. Jamieson has 35 after 6.

I'm sure he'll have his challenges when he starts playing tests overseas, but it goes to show just how rare this sort of start to a test career is.
