I was born in 1954 and my oldest grandchild is still only 7. How old was Dan54 when he had his first child????

I suspect that his family comprised more than one mother, though? It's difficult to imagine that one woman would bear 20 children.

My gf, whose family is staunchly catholic, is one of 8 and that is generally considered a large family.

I am the oldest of three, from a nominally C-of-E family.

My mother is one of eight (technically nine, I only found out about the ninth half-sibling when my grandfather was dying, the naughty old scoundrel), but there's only me and my brother. Tons of cousins, none now under twenty, many with kids of their own.

I have two kids and my brother is never going to be a parent because he likes kids, but not to the point of wanting to father any.

My dad's one of three, I only have two cousins on that side, though.

Sorry, I should have made clear that I found the topic interesting.

Re-reading it, it sounds like I'm being critical of Dan54, but I'm just hoping to start a conversation on the benefits of having kids and how many.

I know that people who do have children say that it's the best thing that has happened to them but I've always wondered if I was selfish in not wanting any.

As it happens, I am probably firing blanks anyway (according to an ex-girlfriend who was a doctor who said that my translucent semen was not a good sign for fertility), so the point may be moot.

My mother's side were, my father's were staunch Cof E, his mother never hid her displeasure at him marrying out of the faith (even if by then my mother was C of E herself). But then, my paternal grandmother didn't approve of very much. My dad always describes her as "difficult", but she was always nice to me and my brother.
