Truss has taken at least two helicopter flights in the two weeks since the Tory leadership race was whittled down to a head-to-head vote between her and Rishi Sunak, according to the paper.
Sources claimed she had flown around 200 miles from Leeds to London after the first leadership hustings last week, and a similar distance to and from Exeter on Monday.

Banking is what sprung to mind for me regarding online voting.

I think it will come eventually, we might all have our own voting app which requires verification via a text message and code input to your phone or some such. This is what happens now with my bank and paypal etc.

I do, but then foreign states have I imagine less interest in my moderate incomings and outgoings than they do who runs the country. Online voting may come in time but for now it is a recipe for disaster (as the security services outline to the Tory party).

I suppose it is - barely - possible that Truss could grow into the role, but with only her efforts as Foreign Minister (briefly) and the leadership campaign to go on that seems a very distant possibility as of now.

The Independent said £3,000 was spent and paid by club owner Robin Birley.

MPs must declare hospitality worth over £300, but Ms Truss's team says she did not organise the event.

A spokesperson for Ms Truss said: "A declaration would only need to made if there was a benefit to Liz, or it was above the threshold for individual declarations for MPs register of interests."

Sounds to me like it was both, to her benefit, & above the threshold ?

In my experience it was always there and really ramped when the conversations went from "how would this work in an independent Scotland" to "I'm voting for/against it because..." and people realised the people they were debating qith were of an opposing view.

People weren't being told to "fuck off to England then" or being called "natsis" because Westminster politicians started to have their say or media ramped up one way or the other.

It's an emotive subject for many and the debate was always going to disintegrate into shite.

That is what these trolls and fake accounts do push extremism and encourage nasty sides in people. It worked. Your acquaintances might have some views but thought them socially unacceptable but then all of a sudden hundreds of "people" online have them. You could see the pattern in fake accounts and trolls pushing extreme right and left views relentlessly on twitter. Which encouraged others to hound moderates. Bloody easy on the Ukraine war to spot them posting responses to the likes of PhillipsPOBrien.

BTW, UK debt peaked at around 240% of GDP in the late 1940s, but there was an obvious reason for that. It fell sharply thereafter until around 1990.

During that time the UK built the NHS and the Welfare State whilst paying back debt to the US.

These people want to increase debt whilst taking no measures to ameliorate 12 years of Tory austerity.

An aging workforce, limited immigration to make up the shortfall. Cultural and corporate conservatism that leads to lack of innovation.
