Cabinet ministers have been accused of undermining Covid advice and putting MPs’ and parliamentary staff’s safety at risk by declining to wear masks, as they packed the Commons chamber full to debate Afghanistan’s takeover by the Taliban.

Darwinian Awards? They certainly got a new arsehole ripped out today so a dose of covid should just finish a few of them off, no bad thing!SaintK wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 2:53 pm Spot the masks on the Tory benches in a packed HoC after The Speaker had urged all MP's to continue to wear them. Actually I thought the opposite! There has been a few examples of folk not wearing masks when they should be but other than that a lot of the goodwill seems to still be around.Slick wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:30 am As a little aside, and completely anecdotal, I was hoping that we would come out of this with everyone being a little more caring and patient with people.
I've been out and about the last week and it seems the opposite has happened. Drivers seem a lot more aggressive, every bus I've been on the driver has been furious about something, people just seem generally more rude and angry - I've really noticed a difference.
I know the hospitality sector in Edinburgh have been having real problems with tourists flouting the rules here and getting very aggressive when asked to comply etc, but it does seem wider than that.
My 6 month old son had to spend a week in hospital with it, and is still getting over it. Luckily he didn't need ICU or anything and is fine. There was one other baby there in the same ward with it too who was only a few weeks old.dpedin wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 6:10 pm Hearing that RSV concerns for young kids, <2, are growing for this winter. Likewise. Have noticed some edge in pubs that you'd never expect to be that way, played in the most unpleasant cricket matches I can remember and got offered out on the train a few weeks ago for reasons that escape me given I was reading a book. Suspect it is some sort of aftermath of the winter lockdown which I think a lot of us found almost unbearable.Slick wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:30 am As a little aside, and completely anecdotal, I was hoping that we would come out of this with everyone being a little more caring and patient with people.

I’m seeing more of what slick is seeing. It’s possibly a coming together of a number of issues where there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground of opinion. Brexit good or bad. Lockdown good or bad. Vaccines good or bad. Plus people been largely isolated for 18 months and they are not used to other people anymore.dpedin wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:36 amActually I thought the opposite! Docs remain worried about RSV for late summer/early Autumn and and over winter and are well prepped for it but still worried about the strain it will put on the system as a whole. Paeds ICU staff spent a lot of time in adult ICU with covid so will have 24 months of constant pressure with little respite. Lots of work going on to identify surge capacity, train up staff, etc.de_Selby wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:43 am Yeah he's fine now so all good, but I was more just echoing your observation that RSV seems to be more prevalent than usual.
The Drs did suggest that these viruses are starting to spread around like wildfire and kids are ending up getting multiple at once now that social distancing etc isn't being practiced as much.
Yes, my daughter seems to be particularly susceptible to these kinds of thing so I'm quite worried about the months ahead.de_Selby wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:43 am Yeah he's fine now so all good, but I was more just echoing your observation that RSV seems to be more prevalent than usual.

To be honest I've not noticed much difference from before. Bus drivers seem the same as they were, some cheery, some miserable. Bar staff generally the same (but FOH staff are very quick to point things out that are wrong), main thing I've noticed is people don't just fire into your personal space. I think in Edinburgh, drivers are wound up by the changes to the roads - and if you consider that these were probably the drivers most likely to look for rat runs, quick nips up an inside lane etc, they were probably twats to begin with who are now just angrier because they can't. I think there may be a bit of people getting hot under the collar when their entitlement is challenged.dpedin wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:36 amActually I thought the opposite! Well, seeing as the mainstream media and social media has gone hellbent on further polarising society it can hardly come as any surprise.Biffer wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 3:30 pmTo be honest I've not noticed much difference from before. Yeah, I agree with the thrust if not every point but she writes in a beautifully readable manner. I've just had the pleasure of talking to my antivax brother in law and being told how pcr tests don't work on coronavirus and how the mrna virus doesn't workSandstorm wrote: Sun Aug 29, 2021 2:52 pmGood article.
