rain break got India back into this, got close but Aus just too good in the end.

Weird - the umpire has just told Bates that she can’t bat out of her crease because she would be stepping in the danger zone. I guess charging a spinner will be out of the question in that umpire’s mind.
Edit: Devine warned now too. Ian Smith really isn’t happy about it

There is still some cricket to be played. 10 logpoints needed to qualify and Australia the only team through. South Africa need one win against Australia/West Indies/India. Tough opponents who are all desperate to qualify.

Satterthwaite would be an all-time great if women still played test cricket. but is instead shoe-horned into ODIs and T20s for which she is less well equipped. And the apparently-sacrosanct Bates-Devine opening partnership is well past its use-by date: Devine is still a great flat-track bully but it's a long time since Bates produced anything of note against decent bowling. If the latter is to remain in the team, it has to be further down the order away from the swinging ball. I've complained for years about the criminally-ignored Mackay and now she's criminally under-utilised — there's zero value in using her as some kind of floater down the batting order — she needs to bat in the top-3 where she has a chance to utilise her comparative advantages.Kiwias wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 12:31 am It is very frustrating watching so many batters getting in, then fail to convert a start into any form of positive batting.
And in this match, why on earth did Satterthwaite not bowl herself, especially with Tahuhu injured. A bit of looping spin on a moist pitch would have been far more dangerous (as Mackay demonstrated) than bowling out the pedestrian Kerr and Rowe. With that level of decision-making, they didn't deserve to win, even if England seemed equally determined to lose.
