Lots of noise coming out of Brackley that Bottas needs to improve a lot if he doesn't want to be replaced by Russell before the end of the season

That was in the Daily Heil

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formu ... e-him.html

Jonathan McEvoy so take it with a pinch of salt.

No doubt Bottas can't afford many bad weekends though. He looks a moody type which won't go down well I suspect.

Onto ignore for you then. For the record, I got it in person over lunch from someone inside a Merc powered team. You could look at my location and go 2+2 from there to understand why they might know some specifics. But never mind - if it suits you to think I'm repeating stuff from a paper I haven;t even looked at in over 5 years then knock yourself out

As I said, just a coincidence you posted it when it was in the newspaper. I'm sure you're well connected in the F1 paddock.

Saint is a wealth of knowledge on this thread. I appreciate his input and would take anything he’s heard through his contacts at face value.

I had lunch with Christian Horner yesterday so I asked him if he thought there was any chance that Mercedes would swap Bottas for Russell mid-season and he thought it would be a stupid thing to do. You can read about what he said at the lunch in the Independent, link below;

He quotes stuff from other articles, like we all do. He does think F1 will go full electric though. He's wrong. It will go to fully synthetic fuel (currently about 10% of F1 fuel is man-made) with hybrid electric becoming more marginal.

I’m a long term F1 fan. As in I met Jochen Rindt in the Oulton Park paddock during the Gold Cup meeting shortly before he was killed. And in my not very humble opinion both Saint and Kawasaki make well informed and valuable contributions to this thread. There are few enough posters here to make it important that people don’t play stupid ego games or make silly accusations about sources. End.

👍🏻

I first enjoyed F1 as a teenage in the 1980s but my interest in motorsport went up a notch when my sister got married and my brother-in-law raced in a British historic F3 championship all using modern Toyota 2.0l engines. He owned and raced a very well known Modus M1 formerly driven by Tony Brise back in a 1970s British F3 championship (might have been 1974 I think). I'd go to as many rounds as possible when school, college and (later) club rugby allowed and I'd help set the car up, time laps and generally just take it all in on race day. It was a fantastic experience. Sadly, my BiL died of cancer in the 90s but I understand his old car is still being raced every now and then and is often seen at Goodwood due to the Brise provenance.

There was a wonderful exchange between David Croft, the F1 commentator and Christian Horner last weekend. They were talking about the new Red Bull Engine company and 'Crofty' asked Horner if they were going to badge the engine as a Red Bull or had any other brand like TAG interested in paying to get their name on it. Horner was coy, explaining that it didn't really matter what name it had, the research and development of the new team was all that mattered etc, to which Croft replied, "well, if you keep pinching all the staff from HPP then you can call the engine a Mercedes!" It was fantastic to hear the Horner silence as he struggled to find the right response!

Mercedes and Hamilton have really responded well to the Red Bull threat.

It's scary to think that the better the competition it gets just makes them both even better still.

Tragic sport - car takes an extra stop and makes up 24 seconds within 20 laps, on the second best car in the field.

Says a lot about Bottas too....

It's become a total snooze-fest over the last 7-8 years as the so-called competition between rival teams or drivers soon evaporates into nothing after less than 5 races into a season. The inevitable 'procession' of the same old cars has turned it into (IMO) a marginally more watchable version of NASCAR.

It’s not new. Schumacher and Ferrari’s dominance had people making the same comments over a decade ago.

I'd love to see a couple of races where; they put all the car numbers in a hat; & each of the drivers picks their car out of a hat !

Let's see how Hamilton does in an AlphaTauri, or how many pieces Mazepin can break a Merc into

If you put all the drivers in identical cars and gave each of them a few practice sessions to set it up to their liking them let them race, Hamilton would still win.

And you'd still find a way to think it wasn't fair.
