Oh kak man...
The Boks is a forwards orientated team, they aim to beat teams into submission with set piece and defence. This does not always work but that's their way. The balance only comes out when they've done the ground work. For me we won the WC final when England was camping our line, pressing hard and could not get through. I even said out load when the ref blew the penalty "take your fokon three points cause that's all you're going to fokon get" and I knew we were going to win that game right there.Grandpa wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 11:46 am
No need to play like NZ.... how SA played in the WC Final was perfect... a nice balance between tight and loose... and SA have won like that before... in a balanced way... it seems a waste of talent not to do it more often.. I am sure SA would win more if they did... just as good NZ teams aren't all about running rugby... the best Kiwi sides had balance too... the current one is still learning...
Exactly right... and the All Blacks are at their best when they follow that mantra too...average joe wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 1:47 pmThe Boks is a forwards orientated team, they aim to beat teams into submission with set piece and defence. Two rugby adages rings true with the Boks "You earn the right to go wide" and “Forwards win matches and backs decide by how much”
They'll play differently when they play the AB's. They always do.
Most of our victories against the All Blacks have come from playing outside our comfort zone. You have to score tries to beat the AB's. Marius Joubert's hat trick. 1998 Tri-nations. The All Blacks normally have the engine to suck up 60 minutes of collisions and then despatch us.average joe wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 1:47 pmThe Boks is a forwards orientated team, they aim to beat teams into submission with set piece and defence. The best Bok performances I see are usually against the All Blacks... 2004 one of your centres got a hat-trick I think, or maybe a double? Mehrtens last ever test match or close to it... but it was based on power forwards and electric backs making the most of chances created by the forwards.... and I always wonder.. why don't they always play like that? Wipe any team off the planet... but for some reason it's like a precious antique, only brought out for special occasions.. which is a shame...FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 2:41 pmMost of our victories against the All Blacks have come from playing outside our comfort zone. This is a relatively green All Black team. We should be able to beat them at least once with the caps and talent we have. If we don't it will be down to the conservatism of Rassieball. I'd rather see us deny the Kiwis possession. We can't afford to rely on our defence to get us home against them.

100th Test is lame. No-one else cares except you.OomStruisbaai wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 3:44 pm The closer the test , the more thirsty. I like the Bok underdog tag. Maybe another loss will suit them best for that 100th test.

NZ to look a bit messy, but hopefully come right in the second half... I hope DMac has a good game at first five... to shut up the doubters...Gumboot wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 7:59 pm Game day. Looking forward to seeing how this shiny new ABs side performs.
Also can't wait to see how the wounded Boks respond against a Wobblies side no doubt brimming with confidence after last week.
Proud sponsors of hopeful!
