Steak in the microwave
I'm on t-bones the last few months. Nice and thick, at least 500 grams. Have a nice rub for it as well.
Lovely...love T bone.

Just blitz it in the microwave for 4 minutes a side and good to go at that thickness

First warm and sunny weekend in months here, so dusted off the braai.

Fittet steak rubbed with six gun seasoning
Chicken drumsticks with a garlic and ginger twist
Wors
Sausages
Mealie

A few craft beers to wash it down and I was quite sozzled by the start of the Bok game. Pretty sober by the end of it though.

I braaied burgers for lunch on Saturday, for my sons 2nd birthday, then after the rugby curry springbok wors and kudu fillet at a mates house. Curry wors was a bit sweet for me....................kudu was top class.

Then last night I made a fire just after Carte Blanche, fell asleep and woke up to no coals at all at 22h30....................pan fried sirloin.

Just normal hey.
Cleaned off the "silver skin" left it in oil, rosemary, garlic and pepper for 4 hours. Added salt and then 15 minutes odd on medium heat and then seared on high heat, rest for 5 minutes and a for away.

Love it...I can't wait to hear how the kids develop. Remember lads. Our time is past. You need to pour as much as you can into your kids until they find their passion.

Both my kids want to be entrepreneurs. They have already devided the spoils amongst themselves. I encourage that because I don't want them to box themselves into a specific job description. But we obviously guide them as to subject choices.

And sport. Be like ouboet and get off the asses on weekends and encourage it. My whole weekend was taken up between cricket Friday with the youngest pre season coaching, boogie boarding Saturday and cricket match the eldest yesterday. Kids tend to want to give up too quickly in sports. I remember how many times we had to bring my eldest back to practice after he kept wanting to give up...and with extra coaching and perseverance he had become a decent cricketer and will play after school too in social leagues. Just because your kid won't make Protea or Springbok doesn't mean they must give up. That level requires a determination that either is in the child or is not.

Gaan kak  I'm still a youngster.

That said, I love spending time with the children. Took the lad on his first mtb ride a few weeks ago, lots of fun. We like playing cricket around the braai, like his dad he's into sports.

I was ok at sport, my wife got provincial colours in a few sports, so we will see how things develop.

Awesome.....your kids are still young.....many good memories still to come...

My youngest is 8....we are pushing him into hard ball as I cant see the value of keeping him in the KFC system. He plays with his boet and mates so is comfortable with the hard ball now. The biggest issue is the length of the pitch to bowl...but he seems to have no problem there which is a huge relief

So the plan for tonight, if it isn't raining, is to braai
Boneless pork loin chops
Lamb chops
Mielies
Tenderstem Broccoli

We do need the rain, so will be happy to cook inside.

Pork loin chops not my favorite on the braai, I think in South Africa we cut it too thin. The thick loin chops on cooking shows always look amazing.

I have the butcher cut them for me.
Or at Checkers they have Homestead pork. They are pretty thick, about 2cm.
Some Spar's also carry a superior pork range which are nice and thick.

Good pork on the braai is ACE

Thanks, will check it out. Agree with you, pork once in a while is ace. Also much cheaper than lamb or steak.

make your own it is cheap and easy and far superior to what you buy in jars.

Good luck for the weekend lads, it's going to be a cold one. If we're lucky, might be able to show the kids snow again.

Boerie rollls with caramelized onions and tomato sauce.....we were at Makro this morning and there was a stand outside and the smell was driving me crazy going in and going out. Had to have it tonight.

Enjoying the rugby with the fire going in the small lounge.

If you look at the supermarkets, where do you guys find the best quality meat, Spar, Checkers, Pick&Pay or Shoprite?

I have a proper Spar in Bryanston which has excellent meat including boerie, free range steak and veal. Normally, I wouldn't go near Spar. Pick n Pay

Depends on the Spar.
Checkers has good steak and wors. Their speciality pork is also very good.
PnP ..........................I bought excellent rump, but haven't bought meat from them in ages.
