Wow.
Not much good about Jimmy.

I think it will be good to hear Jimmy's side of the story as well.
I don't find it strange that a self made man like Stonehouse and a kid from a family of 9 siblings in a coloured township in Paarl might have had a problem understanding each other. Lobberts came from a cohort of POC players who were possibly didn't enjoy the kind of life skill support they do now. Jimmy came from a working class family in Krugersdorp. Guys like Cheslin Kolbe and his cousin world record 400m runner Wayde Van Niekerk come from similar communities but enjoyed a different fate.

I sympathize with Ashwin Willemse, Paul Adams, Ashwill Prince, Quinton Davids and Ntini. This was an awkward period in our history where we were pretending to be the Rainbow Nation but hadn't really got to know each other yet.

I completely understand how Ntini and Adams must have felt in that bombastic all white environment they were thrust into. One of the reasons why we have we have excelled at rugby and cricket since re-admission has to do with the pioneer x African gees/mana which we are able to bring to the sports. What we make lack in skill is made up with in boerekrag. The current generation are able to merge these into a new identity. Mapimpi and Rabada are two of these new breed.

You really feel for kids that have to go through this.
One thing I have learnt. A leopard never changes its spots. He has anger issues. Maybe not his fault because of his upbringing but it's there.
Stonehouse comes across as a no nonsense type of guy. Don't expect him to be your buddy. Its easy to get angry with someone like that. You can't like everyone and not everyone is going to be sympathetic. It's a tough old world out there and you just have to be better than the next guy. Of course he is going to praise Dobson. He pays his salary.
Stonehouse is probably the same type of coach like Robert du Preez (snr)
Why do you say that?

Didn't say you did. There's always 2 sides to a story tho. I think it's poor journalism to not at least phone Stonehouse for his side of the story.

Nothing wrong with a coach that is a bit of a schoolmaster type, most South African players respond well to that. Buddy buddy coaches have not done too well in SA over the years. All within limits of course.

You're not wrong. Probably due to the patriarchal style of the top schools in SA. You see a lot of the younger plays still with their "yes sir yes ma'am" responses when dealing with the media too.

But interesting that Rassie does not strike me as this type. Perhaps that's why the Boks responded so well to him.

I think Rassie can be good cop and bad cop and that's what makes him special.

We will only know what he have in him when he's no longer involved.

Cheetahs look like the team to beat at this stage. Bulls have fallen to them. Let's see what the $harks can do when we face them. WP look like their SARU subsidy is stretched over the URC team. With very little left for quality in the CC. Bulls look they don't know which is their URC team and which is their CC team.

I only caught the highlights because I had a function at my daughters school. Curwin seemed to go OK. How was he on defence? I feel sorry for the guy but he's still only 24 and has plenty of time to build a career. He certainly has the skills to make it.

Pretty happy with that result. First half was poor from both sides, but we came out fighting after half time. A few notable performances:

Best I've seen Curwin play in a while. Looks so much more dangerous when he runs and passes.
Cameron Wright was outstanding at 9, his box kicking was incredibly accurate. Together with Penxe, they really caused havoc for the WP backs.
Gumede is one to watch. Could be the answer to the Sharks 7 jersey.
Fez has improved a lot too. Can push Bongi for the 2 jersey.

If nothing else, the main Sharks team will feel some heat from these guys pushing for their jerseys.

Both Zululand boys. From Umfolozi and Empangeni respectively. KZN has vast sporting potential and right now the only bottlenecks are the limited number of places in the traditional sporting schools. These are really the only places where young talent gets the access to the coaching and training facilities necessary for elite athletes. I'd love to see a big push into rural KZN by the rugby and cricket development guys. Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo are scholarship boys from modest backgrounds. With our population of 11.1 million souls and the emergence of black african sporting idols in rugby and cricket, I think KZN has got the potential to be a powerhouse in these two sports.

That's good to hear. I agree, I think we're only looking at the tip of the iceberg with the talent available in KZN. Let's hope the $$$ that we're rolling in extends to these areas.
