The Official Braai Thread
Busy day...Rugby this morning. Cricket afternoon ( thankfully a T20 ) and then braai tonight.
Had rump last night. Lit wood in my oven instead of charcoal. Which meant searing on the flames coming off the wood ( a quick turn on all 6 sides ) and then moving up to bake off the direct flames.
I had selected the piece of rump from the slab I had carved up earlier. Cut it into 4 chunks of around 300g each..I have been without a oven for ages. I remember now what a difference in flavor it makes. Baked some potatoes on the top rack....also threw some reject ribs from the missus's shop ( they are spare instead of loin ribs ) and they were ok , but big difference in texture and quality.
Overall a great meal...the steak was tender and full of smoky flavor. Maybe just a little too long on the bake as the pink wasn't my normal bright pink. But hey....very enjoyable.

Faithfully reproduces the Sparks Road curries. Same recipes. There are a few Cape Town additions to the menu like Gatsbies etc. Does awesome bunnies and the famous chip and cheese roti with mutton curry sauce.

lol I probably know loads of House boys that you know. They used to come up for school holidays to fish on rivers and dams in East Griqualand on our home farms. Our family kids were spit between Weston, Michaelhouse ,Kearsney and College. Hilton was and is for posers and city folk.Chilli wrote: Sat Oct 02, 2021 2:32 pmA year or two behind me

Best curry I've had was Ster-Kinekor drive-inn curry and rice with chutney and banana slices on top. Sadly I'll never experience that sweet sooibrand of my youth ever again. Best thing about it was that toxic waste orange oil layer it formed after siting under the warmer light before they dished it in that non-biodegradable Styrofoam container.
