Well it's win-win for them. If anyone complains about the lack of home building, they say well we wanted too, but the damn EU regulations stopped us, & if people complain about pollution, they point the people looking for houses at the wealthy nimbys blocking them from building. I was actually looking at it from the other angle, that it might be a mistake. Lots of wealthy folk having their annual jaunt to the SW very pissed off at not being able to go in the sea for much of the summer only to be told that it will get worse so more houses will be built. Who knows!

This is what Brexit was all about - being able to avoid petty EU regulations that protect the environment in order to enable builders and landowners to make bigger profits from housebuilding. Deregulation in action and it is a feckin disaster for us common people.

So to make sure the water companies could continue to pay their dividends, the Government gave the huge bung, & on the monopolies part they cut their running costs, by just dumping raw sewage into the countries waterways, secure in the knowledge they wouldn't get fined, & if they did the levels of fines imposed would always be less than the cost of treating the sewage they dumped.

Does anyone know if there's a small UK Water company for sale ?

This is an absolute scandal!

The first major collapse happened five years ago, in 2018, but none of the seven different Education Secretaries the Conservative Party has fielded since then has needed to do the hard work of finding the money to fix the problem. Finding investment would have been a battle – from 2010 to 2022, real-terms capital spending on schools halved – and not one worth taking on if you expect to spend less than a year in the job.

Education Minister Nick Gibb has said the government began surveying school buildings in England last year, contrasting it with the situation in Wales.
He told Radio 4’s Today programme earlier: “Today, Labour-run Wales is for the first time starting those surveys, we started those surveys in 2022”.

It is true that the Welsh government has recently announced that a survey of its schools "will identify any structures suspected of containing RAAC".
However, it also said that so far it has not received any reports of RAAC being present within schools or colleges.
