But points for the comp is what’s on their mind.
Didn't know these tests counted towards anything tbh. The next Test Championship?Ymx wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:41 amSame.Gumboot wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:31 am I'd love to see us go apeshit with the bat and have England chase hard or survive for the last two sessions. Ah, I might be wrong. But I swear one of the commentators said of NZ they need to keep an eye on points, late yesterday afternoon.Gumboot wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:43 amDidn't know these tests counted towards anything tbh. Cheers mate
Just to be clear you guys think England deliberately... Made the batsmen deform the ball??

Everyone knows the Umps actually have a 2nd set of guages, which is deformed; so if when they test the ball against it; it makes a normal ball look deformed !

Yep, indeed, that was the final piece of the puzzle.fishfoodie wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:03 pmIt's part of the "Grand Conspiracy"![]()

In other news: Williamson has given England a damn good chance of winning this.
England at a canter for me.1.20pm New Zealand have declared. Southee and Jamieson outside warming up. England need 273 to win in two sessions. A minimum of 75 overs left in the day on paper. Play can go on till 7 pm.

NZ wouldn’t bowl England out in two sessions. What is there to gain by such a declaration. Stupid move.

An England quality of review.Rinkals wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 1:55 pm Poor review. Would have missed a second set of stumps.

What an absolutely ridiculous sentenceRinkals wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 1:30 pm
Without casting any aspersions, its the sort of thing Hansie would do.
You've removed half my post which robs it of context. Its the sort of thing bimbo would do.Happyhooker wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 2:05 pmWhat an absolutely ridiculous sentenceRinkals wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 1:30 pm

I hope I've made it clear that I'm not accusing Williamson of anything apart from recklessness.
It’s a little bit different when it’s 1st innings and or unknown totals. So not comparable for run rate.JM2K6 wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:05 pm You guys realise that England would have had to score their runs faster than any of the three innings in this match so far, right?
It was not an overly aggressive declaration.
Now it’s more akin to chasing a one day total but with way more overs. And failing to attempt to chase in order to preserve a draw.
I reckon a lot of other teams would have had a go at that.
They might, but England's batting lineup is pretty terrible and not designed for a fast chase either. I'd have been amazed if we'd tried.Ymx wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:19 pmIt’s a little bit different when it’s 1st innings and or unknown totals. Now, yes - but at the time of the declaration all results were live. And yes, stokes and buttler would've made it interesting.Enzedder wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:29 pm I reckon England are the only side with a chance though, limited as it may be. Ben Stokes could have made this interesting
England are getting pilloried for this approach and I think people are being ridiculous. We've been second best for most of this match, our batting is incredibly fragile, and batting out a draw would be a great result all things considered.
Rob Key was a bit disparaging about the NZ attack in the first England innings, and though I thought he was being very unfair at the time, it really does seem that they don't have the bowlers to take twenty wickets.
England really should have won this but I don't see NZ getting into this good a position again. I can easily see England winning the rest of the games this series.

We moan when everyone gets out flinging the bat. We moan when they glue themselves in for the draw. We'd have moaned if we lost.
It wasn’t mostly England fans moaning.Hal Jordan wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:17 pm We moan when everyone gets out flinging the bat. We moan when they glue themselves in for the draw. We'd have moaned if we lost.
No shit! Burns given 2 lives and a day of rain saved their arses.Ymx wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:40 pmIt wasn’t mostly England fans moaning.Hal Jordan wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:17 pm We moan when everyone gets out flinging the bat. And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
It was a rusty performance from both sides on the whole. Round 2 will be interesting to watch.
Kiwis without Boult

Add Archer, Woakes and the Kiwi to the pom's team and they are not going to be beaten.

Ludicrous comment given they bowled NZ to a 100-run first innings lead and only had two sessions on the last day.Rinkals wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:12 pm Rob Key was a bit disparaging about the NZ attack in the first England innings, and though I thought he was being very unfair at the time, it really does seem that they don't have the bowlers to take twenty wickets.
Games = game.Rinkals wrote: Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:12 pm England really should have won this but I don't see NZ getting into this good a position again. I can easily see England winning the rest of the games this series.
And England winning that game would represent the sort of improvement that would have stewards all over it if it happened at the racetrack. They were always second in this game and only got a chance to win it due to rain. Having finally got some overs under their belt (and got rid of Santner), the NZ attack will also be much more potent next time.
