This little shit needs to be expelled. An he probably will. He's made his bed and needs to lie in it. My daughters in third year in Stellenbosch University at the Tygerberg Medical campus. She's has an amazing and mixed group of friends. This kind of stuff needs to be stamped out. I'm all for an example being made of this racist little fuck.

I find the debate around it quite interesting. People are calling for bloody, as if making an example of him will automatically deter similar incidents. Of course he should be punished, but they need to look at the wider problem. South Africa's race relations are in the gutter.

Tracker

Just had my latest tracker knife completed. Taking delivery today.

You notice the sawing edge ontop. Carl Philander who made it for me beveled each tooth from both ends with a hand file to form a point in the middle. That was a lot of work and something I have not seen before. He decided to do it on his own and he nailed it.love the hook at the front top of the blade. Carl sharpened it from both sides so if you hook into tendons it will slice right through. Nice touch . The skinning front end has a smooth curve and I am dying to try it. Skinning is not easy with such a large blade but I suspect I won't be disappointed. The chopper to the rear of the blade is razor sharp. I saw the handle scales online and I had missed a knife at a knife show so got hold of the Smith Carl and asked him to make a blade with the scales I bought. I left the finish up to him . Was a bit anxious when I saw the sheath color but it's growing on me. It's a cross sheath. Can either fit on belt carrying sideways or carry as per normal hanging down. 4mm 1065 high carbon 600 grid. So it will hold an edge but will require maintenance being high carbon. I had the choice to go stainless but would rather have maintenance with a hard edge than have to constantly sharpen a stainless steel knife with no material maintenance.
I just took delivery and it's a beaut.
I have also commissioned a chefs knife with wild olive handle. Struggled to find the wood but got a piece which we are having cut and stabilized for a handle. Chefs request. I am busy building his restaurant and it's my gift

I agree.

When I was young I decided that I would not be able to face such nonsense when a student, so I studied through UNISA. Worked at the same time.

Glad I used my head, if I encountered such shit I would have lost it ... No time for bullies.

I am expecting care instructions from the Smith I used. Will pass it on. I oil my high carbon blades. You can tub it with scotchbrite to get rid of the marks.

I have a Japanese Deba (cook's knife) that I use daily. Carbon steel. When the patina gets too much for me I use mag rim cleaner to brighten it up. Or you can use Brasso/ Silvo/panel beater's grinding/buffing paste

Sharpen it occassionally, not too much, a hollow ground composite blade

I don't really mind them staining. Just thought there might be a trick to keep them bright. I'm pretty bad at sharpening with a stone. I've spent thousands on Japanese waterstones and all sorts of shit. No patience I guess. I bought a Warthog V-Sharp Classic II with the 325 grit diamond rods. Absolute revelation. I finish the edges off with buffing compound on a leather strop. I have a cousin who does hake and snoek export to Portugal. They do their filleting knives like that.

My grandpa was a boiler maker who retired to do fine carpentry/cabinet making as a hobby. He had a real gift with steel. He had all sorts of tricks to sharpen blades.

I found rust on the roof of my bakkie. At the same time my top coat started peeling and my vinyl camo started cracking so I decided to rather keep my bakkie and give it a makeover. Changed the color from silver to VW charcoal grey. All my trims ( bull bars , roof rack etc I had coated Matt black. The wheel trims I had done Matt black too. ( we are going to change them to match the black of the bars after I get back from the weekend). I ran out of time because we are going away this weekend so I didn't manage to get the bonnet air vent fitted ( it's still being colour coded to the body color) basically like in the first pic. It's going to change the look completely. There are a few problems that need to be sorted so it's going back for completion when I get back.
It was the " silver surfer " before. Silver with Stainless trim.
Now it's Titan . Charcoal grey with black trim.
The black trim around the wheels makes the wheel cavity look bigger. Once we have recovered from this makeover experience we ( my eldest is going to eventually getting this bakkie so he has been very involved in the decisions we have made. The bonnet vent was his input. And the color choices. I am Libran. I can't make those decisions. Anyway we are going to raise the suspension 2 inches and put bigger wheels on . Put a slide out floor in the back. ( so you don't have yo climb into the bakkie to get things. I will make it. ) and lastly put a plate below the engine to protect the vehicle from rocks below ( I will make this too ) and thats it. I refused a snorkel and new canopy. Below is the original color. What do you think.

The chefs knife is going through the hamon effect
That's the handle prepared for shaping after the heat treatment.

The handle is dyed burl, copper spacer and the wild peach...I have a wild peach in my garden but wasn't prepared to cut off a branch. We were lucky to find this piece. .
The craftsman asked to add the dyed burl..bit of a risk, but he has ticked all the other boxes so I am giving him license to do what he thinks best.

I am trying my best not to fall in love with this knife

Disappointing lack of flames down the sides Sards! Not even a racing stripe!
But that aside, nice job! I like the idea of a sliding out bakkie box. Nice for a camp kitchen surface shoud think. When my daughters were Sea Scouts, I made the troop a chuck box or patrol kitchen like in the picture. We did lots of sailing weekends at Midmar. It would go nicely on a contraption on your bakkie.. I just had it in the back of my Isuzu covered by a gazebo. Its long gone but looked like this. All marine ply and oak. The Scout group had some amazing wood from the boat restoration efforts. All donated. The brass fittings were all salvage from an old Rhodesia Railways Restaurant car. As was all the crockery, cutlery and utensils.

Nice job.....

I have to send the kids into the back of the bakkie because I am getting too old for that shit. With a slim line pull out floor I can load the bakkie and just push it in. Same for taking stuff out. Could have done with it tonight. It looks like a dog's breakfast inside the back of the bakkie. Sigh.....it's been a long and hard week. 2 restaurants opened this week...or at least finished from our side.Just want to get in and drive away. Thank goodness the missus handled the groceries. I was about to crack
