His dad's GM of a wine farm in Worcester that produces 8m litres a year. He'll be alright. But he needs to be kicked out.Wilson's Toffee wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 3:08 am Quite sure this happened frequently when US was a "white" institution. Worse certainly happened
Nowadays the PC culture (thankfully) cancelled this kind of behaviour. Barbaric shit.
Poor little fuck, he will learn, fun comes at a price.
It was just as inhumane and stupid then as it is now. No person deserves to be treated like that.Wilson's Toffee wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 3:08 am Quite sure this happened frequently when US was a "white" institution. Worse certainly happened

I have a couple of high carbon steel knives. Mora and opinels. I can put a good edge on them but the blades get pretty stained and dark. Is there any trick to keep them shiny?Sards wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 8:47 am So it will hold an edge but will require maintenance being high carbon.

I am expecting care instructions from the Smith I used. Will pass it on. I oil my high carbon blades. You can tub it with scotchbrite to get rid of the marks.FalseBayFC wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 2:25 pmI have a couple of high carbon steel knives. Mora and opinels. I don't really mind them staining. Just thought there might be a trick to keep them bright. I'm pretty bad at sharpening with a stone. I've spent thousands on Japanese waterstones and all sorts of shit. No patience I guess. I bought a Warthog V-Sharp Classic II with the 325 grit diamond rods. Absolute revelation. I finish the edges off with buffing compound on a leather strop. I have a cousin who does hake and snoek export to Portugal. They do their filleting knives like that.Sards wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 10:32 pmI am expecting care instructions from the Smith I used. Will pass it on. I oil my high carbon blades. My grandpa was a boiler maker who retired to do fine carpentry/cabinet making as a hobby. He had a real gift with steel. He had all sorts of tricks to sharpen blades.Wilson's Toffee wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 3:33 pm I have a Japanese Deba (cook's knife) that I use daily. Carbon steel. When the patina gets too much for me I use mag rim cleaner to brighten it up. Or you can use Brasso/ Silvo/panel beater's grinding/buffing paste
Sharpen it occassionally, not too much, a hollow ground composite blade
Warthog is an excellent tool for sharpening knives.FalseBayFC wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 5:54 pmI don't really mind them staining. Just thought there might be a trick to keep them bright. Ja I guess I just need to apply some elbow grease with the buffing compound.Wilson's Toffee wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 3:33 pm I have a Japanese Deba (cook's knife) that I use daily. Carbon steel. I have a draw full of German knives.
Great job.Sards wrote: Tue May 24, 2022 5:15 pm I found rust on the roof of my bakkie. At the same time my top coat started peeling and my vinyl camo started cracking so I decided to rather keep my bakkie and give it a makeover. Changed the color from silver to VW charcoal grey. All my trims ( bull bars , roof rack etc I had coated Matt black. The wheel trims I had done Matt black too. ( we are going to change them to match the black of the bars after I get back from the weekend). I ran out of time because we are going away this weekend so I didn't manage to get the bonnet air vent fitted ( it's still being colour coded to the body color) basically like in the first pic. It's going to change the look completely. There are a few problems that need to be sorted so it's going back for completion when I get back.
It was the " silver surfer " before. Silver with Stainless trim.
Now it's Titan . Charcoal grey with black trim.
The black trim around the wheels makes the wheel cavity look bigger. Once we have recovered from this makeover experience we ( my eldest is going to eventually getting this bakkie so he has been very involved in the decisions we have made. The bonnet vent was his input. And the color choices. I am Libran. I can't make those decisions. Anyway we are going to raise the suspension 2 inches and put bigger wheels on . Put a slide out floor in the back. ( so you don't have yo climb into the bakkie to get things. I will make it. ) and lastly put a plate below the engine to protect the vehicle from rocks below ( I will make this too ) and thats it. I refused a snorkel and new canopy. Below is the original color. What do you think.
Nice job.....FalseBayFC wrote: Thu May 26, 2022 6:37 am Disappointing lack of flames down the sides Sards! Not even a racing stripe!
But that aside, nice job! I like the idea of a sliding out bakkie box. Nice for a camp kitchen surface shoud think. When my daughters were Sea Scouts, I made the troop a chuck box or patrol kitchen like in the picture. We did lots of sailing weekends at Midmar. It would go nicely on a contraption on your bakkie.. I just had it in the back of my Isuzu covered by a gazebo. Its long gone but looked like this. All marine ply and oak. The Scout group had some amazing wood from the boat restoration efforts. All donated. The brass fittings were all salvage from an old Rhodesia Railways Restaurant car. As was all the crockery, cutlery and utensils.
