You mean the population that overwhelmingly voted for parties who aren't the Conservatives, prior to an incredibly botched handling of a pandemic and a disastrous Brexit deal?
Perhaps your golf buddies are happy, I dunno, but maybe you should broaden your horizons a little bit before accusing me of myopia.
Yes them.
So your argument is that the population as a whole isn't unhappy, and your basis for this is... the fact that the Tories won the election a year ago? And you think we're in a bubble!
I tend to agree with OS actually. The governments approval rating is roughly the same as a year ago and their policies are broadly supported (not by me so much). I think the general feeling is they have done a poor job but no one else would have done much better.
It amazes me that the rise in populism is still treated by many as a blip and just supported by a few loons. Look at the most recent election across the pond, Trump still got 75m votes. His policies are wildly popular and I think only the fact that he was such an odious, incompetent cunt stopped him from winning. A competent and less corrupt person running with those same policies would have walked it which is why so many Republicans are sticking with them. There is most certainly a bubble.

Does it really matter this far from an election?
If the vaccination programme carries on as it is a lot of people will change their minds on how the crisis has been handled, on balance, and by the next election the debate will be around how best to handle an economic recovery.

It matters when hyper-sensitive Tories are claiming that we're in the minority about being unhappy with the govt.

Pandemic handling appealing.
Brexit handing excellent, once again pulled something off that was deemed impossible. The critics and doom merchants are running around with some politicised Scottish fisherman , that’s literally all they’ve got left.

There is some research here on voting on the EU from Scottish fishermen, they were overwhelmingly Tory voters, intended to leave the EU because they thought it would benefit their industry, they mostly identify as British, though a fair proportion as Scottish, with a vanishingly low number identifying as European.

Its not just Scottish fisherman to be fair.
The fixation of eliminating tariffs but doing nothing to eliminate non tariff barriers which are far more costly and particularly onerous when exporting fresh food is coming back to bite.

Except it just isn’t True, there’s barely a commentary that doesn’t acknowledge that the UK did very well out of the deal struck
Economic Armageddon has become “a bit difficult for the fish exporters in Scotland “ who presumably can’t fill in a form like the ones in Lowestoft or Grimsby ....
The nationalists in Scotland are the funniest critics though, especially now it’s clear the EU won’t touch them.

It was a success in terms of selling the Brexit deal to low-information voters though. Deal done, no tariffs, free trade, mission accomplished, etc.

Car plants are shut all over the world at present thanks to covid , lockdowns, and people not buying cars right now against a backdrop of working from home and industry over supply. To say that what’s happening in those uk factories is because of supply chain shipping issues just isn’t wholly true and they would (should?) have built up certain parts buffer stock.

First of, of course a car firm would blame the political situation if it could , and not give any miles to the whole arse falling out of car market present.
Secondly, perhaps some sort of preparation like have been done on their end as running out of bits 18 days into a year when car sales have been near zero, is extremely poor planning.
Re audi, what has that got to do with brexit ? Or do those chips come from the uk ? If so, then the second clause equally applies to them , especially to small high value non perishable goods such as microchips.
Sounds more like the poorer managed firms haven’t done enough prep and are now getting into trouble. Uk warehouses are bursting with product prior to brexit , now into jan and lockdown order from suppliers have greatly reduced in line with over stocked and fall in demand.
