I'm always sceptical of all this. Band waggoners, wannabe media celebs, Munchausens, money seekers etc often seem to make up a lot of these after claimants in these sorts of cases (Savile etc was children and so a bit different). The S Wales police looked at it in April after the mother had approached them and said they would not be taking it any further. The mother and stepfather then complained to the BBC 18th or 19th May.
The BBC Annual Report was published yesterday. Edwards salary was published alongside those of all the other major presenters. We have no idea when his pay rise was implemented

For me the spending 35k on the sly would be the bigger issue, but then I'm not on senior BBC news anchor money.
Edwards has basically just purchased pornographic material direct from the source rather than from a hosting website or distributor. I think it requires a pretty puritanical streak to have much of an issue with that. Interest from someone Edwards' age in someone who's in their late teens does feel intrinsically a bit creepy, but 18 is a full adult in the eyes of the law and we'd be fooling ourselves to think anything other than that it's fairly routine for a lot of men and women of middle age and up across the globe to view porn that involves participants significantly the junior of the viewers. Even as young as late teens.
Since it's effectively just looking at porn, I struggle to equate it with cheating. Some people do set that boundary in their relationship and plenty do not. Even if it were, some people swing or have open marriages (the distinction is a little lost on me, but I'm assured there is one). Short of a member of the Edwards family confirming it as adultery, we don't know and it's not really our business.
I'd not do what Edwards apparently has, but it feels a bit on the side of moral panic to take much issue with it if you believe in a liberal society where people have the freedom to act as they please within the confines of the law.
