I was horrified to hear how much parents spent on the grade 6 valentines dance my son attended. There'll need to be massive policy wins for this to be worthwhile. Which were never on the table. Lets see if the ANC end cadre deployment which is in the deal, but so far everything in the deal has been watered down when the crunch comes.
No chance this is lasting long term. Could go through why but it's a bit depressing, basically as things stand the DA doesn't have enough power to do much. After years of this everyone will start blaming the DA (and whites) for the ANC's mess. The DA may get some wins out of this, but needed to be more than what it's looking like.
I can see this doing massive damage to the DA. There's some potential upside, but that involves convincing people who have never voted DA that the DA improved things and not the ANC/other parties.
It has kept bad bastards known as the EFF and MK out, that's about it.
Some long posts up the thread. These are short-ish and sum it up. Giving the ANC support means: Not attacking dodgy ANC stuff, not opposing BEE and maybe some version of EWC (Ramaphosa is a massive fan of EWC), and in a worst case scenario the ANC shit the bed about losing racist supporters and starts trying to pass crazy legislation leaving the DA in a tough situation.
Indeed. My 2033 retirement plans to Noordhoek are beginning to unravel here.

Ramaphosa/ANC used the threat of the EFF and MK to drive a ridiculous deal. DA given very little power. ANC still committed to crazy policies. Even though it's very obvious the ANC surviving depends on the ANC not doing crazy stuff and the DA having the space to do some good. Instead it looks a lot like ANC business as usual.
End result internal DA polling (usually very accurate) is now said to have the DA on 10%-ish (this is from a good source). A number that low would send the DA back to the early 2000s in terms of support. There's no way that is sustainable. The DA is not going to sit there until 2029 on a number that low.
Ramaphosa's addiction to EWC is just insane. Signed that into law without even telling the DA he was going to do it, which has forced the DA to take the ANC to court when they're both in government together. Ramaphosa also now has the US breathing down his neck.
This Ramaphosa guy is a domkop, Zuma didn't even go to school and is smarter than this. How he has fucked this up I'll never know, by giving the DA so little power he has ended up with all the same old shit policies and if the DA walks out he has no government.
I don't think you do "hate to do this", Mnr.Joe. I think you enjoyed putting the boot it.average joe wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2025 6:36 am I hate to do this but "I told you so" when you were still sooooo positive about everything GNU.
Even if they walk out of the party of Gnu now, the DA is done as a standalone entity. Their only option is to become the new New NP and get absorbed into the ANC. There is no coming back from this. They should never have agreed on this shit deal to begin with. The ANC only needed them for the numbers, there was never a "work together agenda" They will still push through their bullshit agendas and policies without consulting with anyone and there's nothing the DA can do because they accepted the useless positions that was offered them.
If they walk out now the ANC will bring in the EFF and still be in power. Old shower head is the official opposition and there is nowhere for the DA to go. They are effectively reduced to redundancy.
Next elections
ANC, EFF and some bought and paid for fringe nobodies rule
Old showerhead and his MK is the official opposition.
DA is a -10% party and left on the scrapheap like COPE. Everyone I know that voted DA feels betrayed and says the DA gave their votes to the ANC and therefore they won't vote anymore, because there is no longer anyone to vote for.
Word_Os_ wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 9:06 am
I know you’re going to push back on what I say next but … SA isn’t as fucked as it should be given the numbers (crime, unemployment, inequality) because most South Africans are fundamentally decent people who are not dumb. Those that trusted Ramaphosa have been conned. Most countries given SA’s situation would be deep into completely insane leaders by now, Malema-Mugabe. In SA that hasn't happened and there’s still a chance of things improving substantially.
Agreed. As long as the DA keeps maintaining services in Cape Town, they'll be an attractive choice for voters in other areas where their own infrastructure is fucked. If the DA maintains its vote in the mid-20s and the ANC keeps losing support, there will be a good coalition outcome after an election. The ANC is going to keep losing support because it hasn’t let the DA do enough.
Ah, so you know there's something worse than what's there now?average joe wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 2:14 pm Ask yourself this, this is Ramaphosa's last term. He is the last of the old boys club. Who comes next?

Another great example of ANC arrogance to appoint the muslim pro Hamas and pro Iran, failed ANC politician as the ambassador to Trump's America

jobs for the boys and arrogance/stupidity thinking years of anti western, pro islamist rhetoric would't matter. Have any of you eaten at The Iron Grill in Bree street?
A mate of mine ate there last week and said that they specialize in Bavette [that is plankie steak to you Oom] and are KAK expensive.
The meat was good but over salty. R200 for a 200g bavette and salad.
Pricey.
It's our go to. The owners and I are mates. So we do odd jobs for them and take meals in Leiue of payment so always have a credit there. Their steaks are great and its grilled in a charcoal oven so that further enhances the flavor. For my wife and youngest their Wagua burgers are the best burgers in Cape Town. Very simple burgers just a patty, some garnish and dipping and decent buns. But the execution is the trick. You pay for excellent execution......but on Wednesday they have Wagua Wednesday which is the burger plus chips dripped with Wagua dripping which is the best chips around, all for a very good R95.00 . All their meals are simple with no overcrowded plate making it look a better meal than it is, only relying on the product you are paying for to be the hero. The staff all know my family well there.Chilli2 wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 8:18 am ACHTUNG Cape Town types!

We went away last weekend to just have a break and recharge the body and mind. We went to the Baths in Citrusdal and soaked in the mineral springs for 3 days. I really felt the difference in my body and skin and could take my mind off all the drama of the cricket season.Sandstorm wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 8:44 amIf you live in the Eastern Cape then everything is expensive in CT.Chilli2 wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 8:18 am ACHTUNG Cape Town types!

But don't just stop there. Around the corner is a pasta restaurant also part of the same group. Scala. If you want a taste sensation that's your stop. Small plates you order as a bundle and get to savor. Highly recommended.
Look. The groups restaurants aren't cheap. But you get what you pay for.
Also part of the group on the same strip is
Nikki. Peruvian, Asian decadence.
Yattai. Ramen heaven.
Burger and Lobster. The Wagua burger with a crayfish twist.
The head chef and I use the same tattoo artist and his brother played cricket with my eldest. He is really a good chef and goes overseas to learn the trade of any new products he introduces so is well traveled.
