McLaren don't have the mentality yet for a driver to win the individual championship. The team orders should have been in place already, never mind "considering it" now.
Horner and Wolf would have made the call for team orders ages ago.

I reckon McLaren don't believe Lando has the temperament to be World Champion. He chokes too easy.
Better put your money on the cocky young Aussie instead.

Roughly this. Lando has such a slim chance of winning the title that they’re better off letting them go at it and confirming who their number one driver actually is.
I don’t think it’s Lando.
More importantly for them I think, is the manufacturers title and they’ll probably win that, the way it’s tracking.

It really shouldn't matter at this stage though. We saw Ferrari choke when Leclerc was in good positions because the mental muscle memory wasn't there when it came to the crunch. It isn't a Lando thing it is a team waving the white flag on the drivers championship when it doesn't really hurt the team to try.
They could have sat them both down and explained the situation and at least given a driver a shot at chasing Verstappen down without compromising the team aim.
Ferrari and Mercedes wont be this poor forever and effectively conceding the drivers championship, however slim the chance is, when it wouldn't impact the constructor championship is pretty weak IMO.

Team orders are never popular with drivers or the fans. Lando and McLaren a riding a massive wave of popularity now, if they start messing with results the F1 world will turn on them sharpish.

McLaren & Ferrari both have the same problem vis a vis drivers; they're too evenly matched, & their favored driver has hit a bit of a blip. This means that if they choose, & choose badly, they'll lose a bloody good driver who'll piss off to one of their opponents. At least for Merc, it's been obvious that LH is past it, & done them a favour by buggering off.
RB would like someone a bit better than Perez, but not good enough to compete seriously with Max, but rather lock out the front row occasionally, or at least get far enough up the grid to act as a blocker.

He's obviously a nice guy, but like LH, he didn't get the memo that when your time is up, its up !
If you stick around, or attempt a come back, you end up diminishing your career.

Kiwis have a renewed interest in F1 with Lawson starting in the US. 13th fastest at practice but he has to start at the back of the grid due to a carry-over penalty from Ricciardo for the engine penalty.
While this will be the 22-year-old’s first outing of the campaign, Lawson has inherited the pool of components previously used by Ricciardo, meaning that replacing several of these has taken him over the amount allocated to each car.
A Technical Delegate’s Report released after Free Practice 1 confirmed that the #30 car has been fitted with a new internal combustion engine (ICE), turbocharger (TC), motor generator unit-heat (MGU-H), motor generator unit-kinetic (MGU-K), energy store (ES) and control electronics (CE), all of which have exceeded the allocation allowed for the season.

I'd say he's happy enough to get sloppy seconds in return for getting the seat for the rest of this season.

Perez might be feeling some heat now from the Toxic Twins running RB.
Russell passed him for 6th spot after starting from the pit lane. Perez started 9th. Lawson started at the back of the grid and made it into the points.

I have minimal sympathy. Sure he has the worst possible partner driver in the same car, but he hasn't shown anything that even make's his position remotely defendable.
Eddie Irvine, when MS was injured, stepped up & got results when he was the lead driver, & did well in the same hardware.
Your first race is against your team mate; after that the rest of the field !

Yup... and Perez isn't delivering.
Looked at a replay of Lando's pass on Verstappen. While everyone who went off track got a 5 sec penalty there... Verstappen also went off track
defending and nothing is said. It looked to me that he ran Lando wide. I think the penalty there all race was harsh in that as Brundle pointed out, the driver on the inside only had to run the passing driver wide to get a free 5 sec from the stewards and that feels wrong.

I had no idea WTF was going on with the, "
off the track", decisions, & that's the bare minimum for what the actual drivers need.
It's bullshit that this is still an issue in F1, & changing the "
steward" every race isn't good, its
BALL OF SHIT !

Another 5sec penalty for Max the wonder dog, for failing to maintain delta under a VSC. Drops to 4th in the sprint.
Especially sweet as he was flat out on the radio trying to implicate Piastri for driving too slow.

Brazil is almost as reliably a wet race as Belgium, but the drainage is very dodgy, & they always have streams of water coming across the track even after the rain has finished

After 5 red flags during qualifying, the final grid line up looks like this,
Albon won't start so his grid spot will be left empty for the start.

Wow - that race had everything but Max's win from 17th was unbelievable - what a timely red flag mid-race.
Still some penalties and fines to come out after the initial kerfuffle over start abandonment where some cars pitted by mistake - and the Mercs altering tyre pressure at the same time.
Lord knows when they will sort out the final placings.
Oh - and Alpine's 2/3 podium finish. Who would have picked any of that.

Very entertaining race. Credit to Max, that was a masterclass.
I think that is Norris' chance at the championship gone. He could learn a lot from watching Max's race.

Max was fast through the field but came to a stop once he joined the lead train. He simply got lucky with the flag, Norris and Russell had pitted for tyres by then and were well placed until the race was stopped. Max effectively got a free pit stop.
As in so many races, particularly Sao Paulo with its weather, it comes down to luck.
Kudos to Occon and Gasly for an unlikely podium double, they drove good races. Special mention to Stroll for losing it on the warm up, then driving into the gravel trap. What a fucking muppet.

With all the penalties drivers will get for not slowing under the yellows, it'll be next week before we know the result.
There's no way Norris is alone
