Marco Jansen is developing into a world class cricketer. Always knew he is going to be special, left hand tall quick. Thanks to Klerksdorp, like Marcus Labuschagne.

Those last 10 overs were pure carnage from the SA batters, T20 on roids.

I dont think so. We lost to the Hollanders. The Aussies gave us the confidense going in the tournament. I should worry about the Proteas, they make you happy just to choke when it really matter.Enzedder wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 2:40 am We are only in that spot by virtue of a very friendly draw Oom. I do not expect us to remain up there.

ENgland should beat Sri Lanka easily judging on how SL have been playing. You'd think it was a great game to get batters into form and bowlers to start believing in their processes again.
But England seem to want to do it the hard way - Malan out and then a poor run out to remove Root.
England need a hero (Stokes walks in).

Really don't quite understand wtf has happened to the 50 over team in the past 12 months?

They try to keep up with their test cricket run rate.SaintK wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 10:51 amAppallingLobby wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 9:59 am 5 down now. England will be lucky to get to 150 at this rate. An easy win for SL coming up and England to vie with the Netherlands for bottom of the table.

Root has come out saying that they haven't had enough 50 over exposure. I think he even said that canning the Blast would be beneficial - but clubs make a ton of money off that competition so can't see that happening.SaintK wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 10:51 amAppallingLobby wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 9:59 am 5 down now. I wonder if the English team in English conditions casts an almost 'unbeatable' aura that doesn't translate into other conditions?
Although they haven't lost this game yet - Sri Lanka are more than capable in not chasing down the eventual target - plus Stokes, Willey, Rashid and Wood have the ability to easily add another 100/150 runs in the remaining overs.

I'm getting the feeling that England are going to pull off something remarkable today. This Sri Lankan side is poor - if England get the top 4 out - then there is really nothing bringing up the tail.
And that is one already down.

Yep - I was very wrong. Thought that maybe the bowlers would come up with the goods. But no.
Amazingly - England can still get through to the knockouts providing they win all their matches and do so in a way that their NRR goes through the roof. So just have to beat India, Australia, Netherlands and Pakistan by huge margins. Simple.
We've barely played 50 over cricket since the last World Cup. The comparison in preparation is hilarious, and on top of that we also binned off domestic 50 over cricket.SaintK wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 10:51 amAppallingLobby wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 9:59 am 5 down now. Add in the recent t20 world cup and England have ended up in a position where they've barely given a shit about the format for years and have been basically winging it off the back of 2019 until it stopped working. If you wanted to ensure failure, you wouldn't do things much differently to England in the lead up to this tournament.
I'm glad we're falling flat on our faces because it's farcical that we put all that time and effort into becoming the best team in the world then deliberately threw it away. It would make me question the validity of the world cup if we succeeded. Happily, we're getting deservedly spanked in a way that means we cannot avoid the questions about where this came from and who's to blame.

Edit it yourself you Muppet!
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.”
You’re happy to see a world cup without England then?
Fourteen teams, two groups of seven. Then a gradated knockout rather than the super six garbage.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

Never quite sure, BCCI would be quite happy with eight teams so long as they’re guaranteed a Pakistan game.

I'm just pulling your leg.
Though I suspect England would've been in that 8 as defending champions and all that
