That was nowhere near as clever as you think.
And that's the whole point.... identity politics is dumb.
I wasn't attacking or defending either Harris or Owens, I have no opinion of either of the two people.
But by identity politics' rules, it's taboo to criticize - rightly or wrongly so - a member of the woman/POC/LGBTQ brigade.
It's a game played by both sides of the political spectrum, and it's pathetic.
Saying a person is wrong just because that person is XYZ, is as stupid as saying that person is always right because it's a XYZ.
PS. I was hoping Rinkels took the bait. Damnit.
Its all about appealing to the broadest possible church and that is how Harris ended up on the Democrat ticket - there was immense pressure for Biden to go with a black woman as his vice President to secure those black & female votes.
It's like Trump picking a weirdo Christian to appeal to religious conservatives.

Was having Pence on the ticket that much of an asset with respect to appealing to religious conservatives? It was more a case of preaching to the already converted in my opinion. Trump enjoyed phenomenal popularity (almost cult like devotion tbh) with evangelicals on his own.
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2 ... s-slipped/ Pence was not a liability in this regard but I don't think he secured any undecided votes or brought in a constituency that was not already covered whereas Kamala obviously shored up black and women votes, both which were crucial demographics.

I thought that opinion polls had Biden as more popular amongst black voters than Harris?
If the idea was to shore up votes Biden should have picked a Hispanic running mate.

Having said that she had a mixed reception amongst black voters, some thought that she was not progressive enough. Some also found her background as a former Prosecutor unpalatable. I would imagine that she enjoyed more unyielding support amongst women predisposed to vote for female candidates.

Yeah, I think I am wrong on that. I just did some reading and she seemed to garner mixed reviews from the black community, certainly not widespread enthusiasm of the like that the Obamas enjoyed. I definitely think that optics wise the Democrats felt a sense of obligation to put a black woman on the ticket, especially given the Floyd George situation and its aftermath.

I don't think Harris'll be able to make it to President at this point. Watching her in the primaries she's not got the appeal that Obama did. Still a lot is going to depend in the next election just who the GOP put forward.

Yes.
I'm not sure she was the best choice, but Biden would have been put under a lot of pressure.
The problem comes in 2024 when (presuming that Biden won't run again) Harris is the Dems nominee. You could put Felix the cat up against her and she wouldn't win.
Not because she wouldn't do a good job, but because of her skin colour and her gender.

I also dislike identity politics. People hating on Kamala is perfectly fair - if they can identify what she has done that makes them OK with the label 'f**ken useless'. I am yet to see anything substantive to prove the 'f**ken useless' tag. It is VERY clear that most who are against her are merely taking shots at a woman of colour - because that gives them the most traction in their little ignorant world.
The difference between my opinion of Candace Owens - based on her behaviour and the politics she practises and someone saying KH is useless without evidence is obvious.
The US barely dealt with a mixed race male President - no way they are ready for a woman of colour to be in the post.......no chance.

I don't have an issue with her personally.
As I said above, I don't think the voters will vote for her without having a white (preferably elderly) male as her boss.
One of the reasons that the GOP is focussing on Biden's age and perceived infirmity is that she's next in line.
