Spain 33 - 19 Fiji! At first I though it must be a result from the women's competition, but apparently an inexperienced men's squad

It's times like this when I think the social media people with WR don't really watch the game that much. That sort of thing was being done years ago and I think I've seen IRB technical videos for referees that tell them how to manage it better so the loophole doesn't become a farce like this ...

... funny, second one I looked at - from about five years ago - shows the Boks doing this very thing!

Just don't get why it can't be called unplayable with a scrum and get the game going again.

That'd be smart! They never do it with rucks, but it is in place there. Why not here? I say reduce both to 3 seconds and let's get on with it or lose possession.

Coincidence that JC Pretorius and Kwagga both come from the same roots. What a player he have been.

Couple of tournaments this weekend for the RWC 7s later this year

RUGBY AMERICAS NORTH SEVENS QUALIFIERS (23-24 APRIL)
Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas is scheduled to host the Rugby Americas North Sevens Qualifiers this weekend.

Across the two-day event, 15 men’s teams will compete for two tickets to RWC Sevens 2022, while the winner of the six-nation women’s tournament will join them in Cape Town.

The highest ranked eligible men’s team will also secure their place at the Commonwealth Games this July, alongside Canada who have already qualified for both the men’s and women’s tournament at Coventry Stadium.

Mens teams:
Bahamas
Barbados
Belize
Bermuda
British Virgin Islands
Canada
Cayman Islands
Curaçao
Dominican Republic
Guyana
Jamaica
Mexico
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Trinidad and Tobago
Turks and Caicos

EDIT: 2 teams dropped out, Dominican Republic and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

AFRICA MEN’S SEVENS (23-24 APRIL)
Three places at RWC Sevens 2022 are on offer at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala as Uganda hosts the Africa Men’s Sevens 2022.

The top three finishers at the end of the two-day tournament will all travel to Cape Town in September.

Uganda face competition for a ticket to Cape Town from Namibia, Zambia, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Senegal, Mauritius, Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Cameroon and Burundi.

Meanwhile, the two highest-ranked eligible teams will also qualify for the Commonwealth Games in England in July.

Was planning on going to one of the days of the Commonwealth sevens but a little disappointed that they have split the sessions up so that if you go on the final day you have to buy tickets for the semis and tickets for the finals separately. Not sure its worth hanging around in Coventry between the sessions but it would be a little anticlimatic to watch the semis and then go home.

On another note - in the last two tournaments its noticeable that the Blitzboks have come back down to earth now that the big guns have rejoined the fray.

I always suspected we were only slightly better than the opposition we were playing. But they could only play what was in front of them at the time. The real test of character will be in the next few tournaments.

Well, from the Africa 7s this morning: Zimbabwe 12 - 14 Burkina Faso

ATM, Kenya seem far and away the best team, as to be expected really. Not sure if there is streaming - it wasn't working at first, seen results only

Ah here is streaming working now:

Greatly improved Zimmo performance against Kenya, almost pulling off a win but in the end losing 24 - 19.

Some decent rugby on display. Quite surprised to see such high standards from countries like Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Also looks like a bloody good day out on the beer!

Well Kenya had a dodgy start against Namibia but a yellow card turned the whole thing around and they ran in 6 tries to win very easily in the end. Still think Kenya will take the Cup, maybe Uganda or Madagascar as runners up unless Zimbabwe step up. Zambia maybe as outsiders.

Yes I agree. Uganda have always had little brother syndrome with Kenya, so it would be good to see them step it up a gear for the home crowds.

That's it for the day, missed a couple of 3rd round games so waiting on all results but Uganda won convincingly over Zambia in the last match

2nd round results were

Image

EDIT: Well much later results still not posted but Zimbabwe beat Madagascar which means they're well placed to make the semi-finals, needing to beat Namibia tomorrow. Zimbabwe not in contention for a Commonwealth Games place but could make the RWC 7s. Whatever the results were in the first round, they seem to have only been for seeding so appear to have no bearing on the knockout rounds

Seems that they chose to schedule this in the normally wettest month of the year in Kampala! Games supposedly resume at midday but as you say the pitch looked very waterlogged so even a few hours of strong sunshine might be pushing it.

Zimbabwe win 27 - 17 and go into the final with a place secured in the RWC 7s finals. Stream has died for me during Uganda v Kenya with home side leading 5 - 0 in 1st half

Streaming back, Uganda scored again while it was off, 12 - 0.. Ended 22 - 12 to Uganda so they have a ticket for Cape Town, and the final today against Zimbabwe, also the Commonwealth Games

Kenya v Zambia for the bronze medal game and the winners go to the RWC finals. Kenya are pre-qualified for the Commonwealth games so Zambia have the last African slot.

Kenya scraped their way to a 19 - 12 win over Zambia to qualify for the RWC finals but they have looked quite average today. They certainly didn't find the conditions at all to their liking.

Uganda beat Zimbabwe 28 - 0 to win the Africa 7s for the 3rd time. Definitely the most consistent team over the weekend and coped with the poor surface better than anyone today. Some really nice play in the final although they struggle a bit in the first half. Zimbabwe only briefly attacked in the game though when Uganda were down to 6 men.

They do, sometimes, but the federation is currently suspended from Rugby Africa. I think it's been made up of a mix of UK exiles and home based players in the past

I played against London Nigeria when I was in university in London. They put 50 points past us, which is some feat in 14 minutes! I don't recall touching the ball nor making a single tackle the entire game, they were unplayable

Fair play to Uganda, deserved winners. Chuffed for Zimbabwe to get 2nd and qualify for the RWC. Their U20, 7s and full XV rugby are all looking good.

Uganda should have won that match - played the tail end of the game against 5/6 players.

What are the eligibility criteria for 7’s? Scotland have a guy on his 4th country and lots of other teams have guys that have played elsewhere.

It’s all very rugby league
