Just gone for the friendly stash mod, I'll work it out when I actually play. Maybe not today.
That's the one.Raggs wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:13 pm Just gone for the friendly stash mod, I'll work it out when I actually play. Maybe not today.
I'm mostly hoping the graphics one works, it was almost an 8gig download... I'll be peeved if I've cocked it up :D.
Fingers crossed. I'm always a bit wary about big overhauls. The game is graphically nice as it is so I'm sure you're in for a treat.Raggs wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:18 pmI'm mostly hoping the graphics one works, it was almost an 8gig download... I'll be peeved if I've cocked it up :D.
It'll come with 2 controls. Might be worth getting another set in the long run so all the family can play Mario Kart but they are £60 a pop so i'd leave it for a bit to make sure it actually gets used.EnergiseR wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:01 pm Gamer dudes. My young one can't get a bike J just discovered due to Covid blah blah. She wants a Switch instead. I get they aren't what you would use but anybody know what you need with it as in do you have to get extra controls etc?
You'll pick it up by feel. Depends if you're fighting monsters or enemies with swords. When getting swarmed by slashing monsters, rolling is essential to get out of range. Short dodging left or right as an enemy takes a swing (either monsters or with sword) leaves a nice opening to get a few quick attacks or a strong attack in.Raggs wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:14 pmOut of interest, are there definite moments when dodging/parrying/rolling all have distinct advantages, or is it whichever you usually prefer?
Yeah, I did quite a bit of extra practice at in the tutorial, though I think my crash may have wiped out any progress.Nols wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:56 pmYou'll pick it up by feel. Dodging forward is also a nice way to quickly close the distance in to an enemy if they're isolated and you want to deal with them before another gets close.
Learn to parry. Really helpful in sword and fist fights. It's simple, just hit the button as they start their swing, you'll knock them back and they're open for a moment. Also needed against opponents who block or use shields lots.
Yeah, didn't work. I'll give it another go at some point.CM11 wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:06 pm Can't really advise on combat as my last run through was with Ghost mode.
Have you done the script merge for the mods?
I'm sure. It's just my muscle memory tends to not swap games well, and I'm rather programmed for minecraft dungeons right now, so don't want to think I'm attacking, when I'm actually dodging.Nols wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:17 pm The prologue section is dotted with fairly low level monsters and bandits that you can practice on. There's pretty much just one or two of everything; monster contracts, guarded treasure, boss battle that you prepare for over a few quests, some enemies that have the red skull of doom that you need to revisit after levelling up, etc.
It's the real game tutorial. The bit in Kaer Morhen is literally just learning the controls.

What do you mean? Making choices for the benefit of others when there's no immediate payout?
Nols wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 4:18 pmSpoilerShowTBF, the Baron outcome is one of the biggest side stories in the game. Has no bearing on the Ciri story, but is great in its own right. By condemning the village to being slaughtered by releasing a trapped demon, you saved the orphans.
It's the classic Witcher trope of choice between two evils. Shit outcomes either way.
Find a book in-game called "She Who Knows". Gives a nice bit of background to the spirit in the tree and the origins of the Crones. Late game gives more Crone lore details, which is as awesome and grisly as you'd expect.
The lubberkin bit has no bearing on the Baron's story. Releasing the botchling or killing it is pretty much an independent quest and outcome.
It's going to be fücking ace. I started the game in Jan and I'm still at kidnapping yer wan off the emperor's ship so you've lots of it to look forward to.Mr Bungle wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2020 12:14 pm I hope this thread picks up where PR left off and we're delivered page after page of fucking Witcher chat.
Use dodge. Roll is heavy on stamina.Raggs wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:46 pm Witcher talk!
So far, learning to manage combat a bit better, mostly rolling but using dodge and parry a bit. Does parry work on monsters, or just people with swords? Haven't risked trying it.

I found dodge more useful than both roll and parry. Roll can let you get a good distance away from trouble though. Parry mostly works on humans.Uncle fester wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:20 pmUse dodge. Roll is heavy on stamina.Raggs wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:46 pm Witcher talk!

That's the best Keira outcome, she'll reappear later in the game for a bit, and anything else ends up with her dying one way or another. Did you bed her along the way?Raggs wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 9:48 pm Witcher 3 stuff
SpoilerShowReleased the plague maiden by taking her bones off the island. Went back to Keira, convinced her not to sell the information, took the info off her (at least I think I did, assuming she didn't lie, switch them etc) and told her to go to Kaer Morhen. So I'm hoping I've at least avoided releasing yet another plague into the world that way.
Just entered Novigrad after doing a few of the side quests and contracts in Velen. Loads of stuff still to do there, but want to be a higher level before I return, since I've seen Griffins etc flying around and high level ghouls, just trying to be careful.
Thanks for the tip on using dodge and not roll with regards to stamina, hadn't paid attention. Currently not using signs enough I feel. Only improved Axii too make sure I can use mind control when I need it, otherwise it's almost all combat.
I figured that was a good outcome, got Letho going there too, so I guess that's useful too.Nols wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 5:34 amThat's the best Keira outcome, she'll reappear later in the game for a bit, and anything else ends up with her dying one way or another. Regardless of whether you go for oils/attacks/sign upgrades, aim to upgrade your fast attack tree to whirl, and max that out. It's the fourth level down of the leftmost red column below. I'm halfway through my second playthrough and have just discovered that this is done by holding square, not mashing it. Gives a 360° attack what rapidly whittles down enemies. Really useful when facing multiple opponents. Costs stamina, but it's really powerful. Looks slick, too.SpoilerShow
Amusingly that is actually him playing in most of those clips, and repping our clan tag too! His brother's in one of them and is far, far better than him - scarily good when he can be bothered.
Last sentence very interesting there, can totally see what you mean. I’ve not downloaded warfare as just seems to run&gun for me plus it’s over 100gig, for now I’m sticking with flawed bf5 which is still amusing me with its variety such as:JM2K6 wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 8:19 amAmusingly that is actually him playing in most of those clips, and repping our clan tag too! Mike is an absolute pain in the arse with games like this, he's constantly reaching for the next "meta" weapon - lads lads lads I read the P90 with the silencer absolutely destroys, you should all try it (goes 3-12) - but I miss the days when he was popular and could get us free games...
We're all playing Modern Warfare now and I honestly hate it. It really feels like "the way to win" and "the way to have fun" are two very different things. Very different to Battlefield.
Watch a couple of streamers play the BR games (I'm nowhere near good enough to actually enjoy playing them myself, and prefer games I can easily pause), MW does seem a bit off in terms of balance. It seems like going far away from everyone, doing a few contracts (recon is good), to buy loadouts, and then staying in a building for as long as possible, whilst maybe doing another contract, seem like an easy way to get a long way in, and have a chance at the win. PUBG forced you into conflict more, since it was the best way to upgrade your weapons.JM2K6 wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:18 am Both have just been nerfed. I don't really play Warzone though I don't think it's terrible. I'd just rather play Apex Legends if I'm going to play Battle Royale, and I'm still not convinced Battle Royale is actually, y'know, good.
