I follow Sam and thought the same reading all of that this morning. He seemed to suggest that anyone thinking Jones should go is as uninformed as those who think Lawes is still primarily a lock.
He's dead wrong (imho) on a few of his hobby horses.

Confirmed. Cockers as interim. No time specified. He'll no doubt win the 6N and get given a 5 year contract.

Well, so long Eddie. Thanks for the good times, but we paid for them with some not so good ones.
Cockers in temporary charge suggests they're trying to get someone like Robertson IMO

I can't help but wonder whether it's his personal conduct rather than his record and methods that have done for him. Like they were fully prepared to let him stay on and see things out, but he got all Eddie about the situation and thus the meeting got moved up during which he continue to be himself to a fault.

From the Telegraph:
Imagine how the animosity could have escalated if Scotland were to win at the same venue on February 4. Crucially, there was a genuine sense that fans would not travel to watch a team coached by Jones. Change was always more likely once the RFU were worried about losing out on money.
It was always going to come down to the bottom line, in fairness that's exactly what Sweeney's mandate requires of him

Nah, it's Scab nose, unless Cockers does an incredible job in the 6N; the RFU are doggedly sticking to the, English Coach plan, which I think they're telegraphing, by thanking the Eddiot for his work on English coaches progression.

No I get the logic of your point, I'm just assuming that if it was Borthwick as first choice the deal would have been done by now. I know Sweeney is a football man first and foremost but there'll be enough people who know their cricket in and around HQ to maybe have got a last minute reminder of why it might pay to be bold...

Wasn't part of the reason for this that the players thought the coach was a bit of a cunt? Good luck.

I don't think they are still 100% wedded to the English thing.
It's much more likely to be Borthwick, but that's based on availability. I suspect if him and Robertson were both available now, they would go with the latter.

It's all happening very quickly, & the RFU might have finally learned not to rush a decision as important as this, or Tigers, or Borthwick might not be inclined to agree to terms immediately.
It could still be someone else, but doing this out-of-cycle makes things difficult

Unless there has been a major change in personality, you can expect a very limited and extremely rigid game plan from which the players will be terrified of deviating, because if they do they will be belittled and humiliated in front of their team mates at the next meeting.
It will be all about the pack.

The RFU sent me a mailshot on Eddie's canning. The text as follows:
Following a review of the Autumn Nations Series, Eddie Jones has been dismissed from the position of England Men’s Head Coach.
The RFU will now conclude the long-term work it has been undertaking on coach succession planning with changes set to be announced in the near future. In the interim, Richard Cockerill will take over the day to day running of the men’s performance team.
Click below to read the full story and to hear from RFU CEO, Bill Sweeney and RFU Chair, Tom Ilube on the outcome of the review.
Isn't it usual to at least put some saccharine statement in to 'thank Eddie for all of his contributions and wish him well' - seems a bit perfunctory, and maybe indicates it's ended on a particularly bad-tempered note.

Borthwick was a superb forward and has a brilliant technical rugby brain.
I know because David Flatman was on about him on the flats and shanks podcast a few years ago.
Glowing he was about him.
England should be well pleased with him as coach, if David, three words per sentence, Flatman is anything to go by.

I saw the same text accompanied by a link to a longer statement which does include this tbf:
"He has the highest win ratio of any previous England head coach and has helped develop the leadership skills of many players and coaches. I am grateful to Eddie for all he has done for England across many areas of the game and the professional way in which he has approached reviewing the performance of the team. He has provided the panel with astute insight and meaningful lessons that will support the team performance going forward."

He turned Edinburgh around on the park for a while, and iirc I think he was good at Toulon. He might be very good for England in the short term in that he'll galvanise the pack.
He does select his favourites and the others are tackle bag holders, not really involved at all, that sort of thing isn't a long-term solution, if he gets the 6N selection right, England will be tough to beat for those couple of months.

I fully expect us to not deviate much from Eddie's gameplan so I'm not seeing this as anything other than the important first step. It does make any hope of turning things round for the World Cup a faint one, but perhaps I'm doing Cockerill a disservice.
Let's just say I think the smart money would be on Youngs & Farrell starting the majority of matches under Cockerill, Manu involved when fit, etc.

I'd assume, that as it's a short term appointment, he won't get to appoint his own coaches, so there can't be much change in direction ?
At least you can expect some changes in selection; & probably some improvements in the set pieces, if he goes with the radical option of picking players in their preferred position

I'm not sure about improvement in the set piece. It was already Cockerill's department. We're unlikely to change the pack en masse either.
As for coaches, the review might also include the fact that most of them are fucking hopeless and/or want to leave anyway, so I have no idea what to expect

This piece by Greenwood, batshit insane, bollocks about Eddie being a great guy, wanking on about Lancaster and comparing Borthwick to Andy Farrell at Ireland and Shaun Edwards for Wales/France

Guarantee that Greenwood's view would have more sway at the RFU

I am really pissed off with this sacking! I was more than happy for the poisoned dwarf to remain in place for the 6Ns and continue to pick the Vunipola brothers, 2nd rows in the back row, sloth like or out of form wingers, two no10s to confuse each other and a glacial SH. I loved the bullshit nonsense from the failed hobbit prior to games that pissed off his own country and gave the rest of us a laugh. Picking a new coach, who god forbid might pick a decent squad will screw this all up for us. How dare the SRU deny us this fun!

Unless they employ someone in short order, then it'll be Cockerill in the 6N so you will likely get your wish!
