Not sure how Nigeria didn't win that.
Will the new English poster girl be saved the Becks post 98 treatment now that they are through?
I think despite the tabloids best efforts we are less likely to turn on someone so badly.
Tbf I thought the Beeb commentators didn't hold back in rightfully calling her out for being a moron.
I think its a positive sign for the women's game. I had feared they would brush over it to keep the women's football message 100% popular. But she should cop a lot of flak for that, as a bloke would get (maybe not quite Becks' level though tbf).

Beckham never deserved the flack he got as he was very young and Diego Simeone was always a dirty niggly prick and undoubtedly deserved it. What Lauren James was probably worse than what Beckham did.
Football does have a problem with persistent minor fouling ruining flow and not being punished. The charity shield saw several yellow cards for knocking the ball a little bit after a free kick (a new mandate that will be forgotten in a month or so) given which is good for flow but the player (rodri) who undoubtedly committed more cynical fouls than anyone wasn't booked.

Not really a problem yet in the women's game to be fair which is why it can be an enjoyable watch.

Why what have they done? A quick Google clearly indicates they've upset the right wing media circus with something about not singing the anthem.
There are quite a few obnoxious and arrogant players on that team, main culprit - Megan Rapinoe.
Hammered some weak opponents at a previous competition and their behaviour was "less than sporting". You could even say it was kiwiesque.
USA v Thailand
13-0
Sure they needed the goal difference but the gloating over the later goals was just ugly.
Yes indeed, I remember that.
The United States is a sporting superpower (no question, you only have to look at the medal table at any Olympics) but with that there often tends to be an inbuilt arrogance in the American teams in all sports. It's hard not to enjoy seeing them beaten.

Could you imagine Messi or CR7 giving an interview like that after missing a penalty?
“I'm like, 'You've got to be f***ing kidding me. I'm going to miss a penalty?' I mean, honestly, I can't remember the last time I missed.”
Petulant, arrogant, entitled twat.
Fair enough being fucked off with your miss, but have an ounce of class ffs.

Yes. I could easily imagine Ronaldo doing that. Ronaldo will happily undermine his teams to feed his ego which is what rapinoe and some of the senior USA women seem to have done. Don't forget Ronaldo's interview with piers moron and his last season at Man United. Petulant, arrogant, entitled twat is a good description of that Ronaldo.

His point stands though. She displayed David Brent levels of self importance and narcissism in the interview at the end of the match. Imagine using a missed penalty as an opportunity to boost your ego.
“That's like a sick, sick joke. I've never hit it over, when I miss they are saved. That's why I had that smile on my face,” she said.

As if missing a penalty is beneath her. FFS Roberto Baggio and Franco Baresi both missed a penalty in the World Cup final, the greatest players in the world have missed them at one time or another. She is completely self absorbed.

This.
CR7 is a twat tbf, and the Piers Morgan interview is a particular low point, but I doubt he'd be as classless as Rapinoe in a post game interview.
Congratulate the other team, say that your team was unlucky on the day and that you are still proud of your teammates, note that you are personally upset at your pen miss but that it just wasn't your day, and move on.
But nah, its all about me

Of course, you never hear of the petty bullshit that goes on in men's sport... well, apart from the example just a few posts up in this fucking thread.
Cop on to yourselves. Women's sport is no more problematic than men's... the recent Rugby World Cup went off without a hitch. The Matilda's are hammering this comp with no issues.
You see what you expect to see, doesn't mean that's the wider reality.

It was a shocker but the Gods intervened and whacked the kick onto the bar.
However, the freekick later in the game was cruel - beats the keeper onto the crossbar, rebounds onto the keepers back and back onto the upright. Bounces down onto the line but somehow then moves back into the field of play.
That ball had more magic in it than Lee Harvey Oswald's bullet.

Well that fecking tense. Amazing.
As for the next game, given the way England have been mostly playing and given the tenancity of the Columbian's I can't help but think Columbia at 7/1 are massively over-priced

If anyone fancies a small flutter you can get 8/1 on both teams getting 2 cards each. Eng V Col
Columbia have gotten away with so much in this tournament, they will kick anything that moves should the mood take them, most of their games have ended with 3 or 4 yellows. My only concern is that a lot of the players are on a yellow and could potentially miss the next match, that said, if you have watched any of their matches, they play like they don't give a feck!
The English girls also like to give as good as they get and don't put up with any shit.
Cheeky fiver for me.

The Spanish thing is getting very messy.

Big lesson here is not to snog unwilling women and then attribute statements to them saying everything is fine that they didn't actually make.

What a shit show.
Why can't we just enjoy what was an entertaining tournament?
Instead its turned into whether a kiss was consensual, why a goalie's kit wasn't made available for sale (who the fuck buys a goalie replica shirt anyway?) and Megan Rapinoe trying to remain relevant?
I am big supporter of women's sport but it really needs to try harder to become more likeable, instead of being a never ending whinge-fest played out in the media, if it wants to win more followers.
