again, Welsh scrum in reverse, standing up and not even a glimmer of a pen
The Welsh are the masters of hoodwinking refs at scrum time. Even against tier 1 opposition they get away with an incredible amount.

Portugal are the dominant scrum and I think they're 0-5 on the wrong side of the pen count. Have they won one yet?

That’s a ridiculous call. He was off balance after taking the catch.

Reminds me Paolo Odogwu getting an absurdly harsh red for falling awkwardly out of the air in the Premiership once.
See it going the same way.

That red is consistent with a handful of similar incidents in recent seasons.
However, those also seemed like very harsh sanctions.

The red is harsh. I could live with it. However there were again multiple other calls that went the Welsh lads way. Think refry said it's going on 15 years and that's about right. It's a right head scratcher but I wonder does the melodious Welsh lilt hypnotise impressionable refs. It would explain one bird I went home with in Cardiff
It’s all that Welsh TV money.

Well done Wales, bonus point win by playing most of tackle bag haulers and the dross in the squad.
.
Thank gawd for Jack Morgan and Falatau.
Next week after Australia has been batterred by Fijians, and with a little more contrived controversy, a rested Wales may actually be in with a shout.

The boot to the face by a player jumping/landing in the act of catching a kick has pretty consistently been refereed as a red card and a ban in recent years - unless your name is Jordie Barrett...
Tevita Nabura in 2018; Dan Evans in 2019; Paolo Odogwu in 2019; Adam Hastings in 2021 - all sent off and banned.
Jordie Barrett was red carded for similar in 2021 but had it overturned by the disciplinary panel.

Usually because they've put a boot up and out when catching the ball moving forward. The Portugal player had to put the brakes on and was facing away and leaning over to catch the ball. Dickson claimed it was an unnatural position but that's insane, when you are leaning so far one way it's completely natural to counter balance with your foot, you see it every time someone is trying to keep their balance catching a ball in rugby and cricket while not going over a line.
The bunker system has been an embarrassing disaster and this is becoming a joke.

Whatever about the rest of the game, but that red was hilariously shit. Quite apart from the fact it was fairly innocuous as an incident, are we really saying that is worse than a shoulder to the head? I hate our game at the moment

Player was judged to have kicked another player in the face deliberately.
That his leg was in an unnatural position, and left there to hurt a player.
If say a Welsh player like Liam Williams or Dan Biggar did that to an English player, you lot would be going men tawl, and shitting in your hands and smearing it on the walls.

Your last sentence might be true, but are we really saying that very unusual circumstance is the same as a shoulder to the heid? I don’t think so

Yeah. In time honoured fashion, it didn't take long for IRB/WR's latest, shiny initiative to turn to sh*t. This one particularly spectacular since it started almost immediately with the Farrell debacle and hit full momentum on the game's most public stage.
{EDIT} See it's been slammed by players including Hook and Foode.
Thing is, you can bet if the shirts were reversed, the decision would have differed.

Wind your neck in, he was NOT judged to have done it deliberatly, no referee can judge intent. It was reckless and red was warranted, but nobody can prove intent.
