Ahh. And of course you can point me to the WR directive for that.

We will possibly never seen an onfield red again now as this system is being used by refs to abrogate their responsibilities.

I’m ok with it. An on-field red “check check” can take 3-4 mins while everyone stands around waiting. Get on with the rugby, folks.

Fine where there is some element of doubt but we've seen plenty of blatant reds which should not require any amount of additional checking.

Back in the day they used to have Japanese players who were too small to compete in the lineouts and they used to have some wildly innovative throw ins. Under the feet of players jumping up and all sorts

Ta. Do you recall roughly what sort of era that was? I can only remember seeing them have white guys over the last 15 - 20 years.

I know they've got some 6'5 - 6'9 guys on their national basketball team, so they do produce some people of what would be considered the requisite height for a modern day second row.

And Japan deserved winners here, Samoa a bit like NZ, ill discipline costing them.

Japan 28-22

Really enjoyed that one, and feel for Samoa who showed some real bravery when reduced to 14.

Well if that's not a validation of the unreliability of memory... Luke Thompson was apparently the only non-Japanese second row they had at the 2015 RWC.

Entirely possible there has been further guidance for refs that hasn't been published but even the initial protocol for the Summer Series games made it highly unlikely an on field red would be issued for any incident involving the Head Contact Process.

https://www.world.rugby/news/827495/fou ... es-it-work

"If the officiating team is unable to determine whether an incident warrants a red card after two-big screen replays..."

I don't think there are any HCP decisions that can be fully completed to a red card threshold from 2 replays (confirm head contact, confirm foul play, assess level of danger, identify if always illegal such that mitigation cannot apply, identify mitigation) so by inserting that 2 replays clause they"ve put refs in the position they're going to go to the bunker every time.

To the best of my knowledge, Luke had become a naturalized Japanese.
