I really like that kid. He could turn into something really special, and is exactly the kind of lock the Sharks have been looking for.

I see Mvovo and JPP called time on their careers. To be honest I thought both had already retired anyway, but both will go down as Sharks greats.
JPP is the new Sharks u21 coach I believe.
J P Pietersen, nephew of Natal legend Christie Noble. Good to see that he's staying in the game. Him and Habana were best wing combo of the Springbok modern era. Kolbe and Mapimpi may eclipse them one day though. JP was a splendid sight in full flight. His top end speed must have been faster than Habana with those long strides.

Cool. We could use our dollars to sponsor scholarships at Paul Roos, Paarl Boys and Paarl Gym. Then straight into the $harks academy.

To be real honest, that maroon jersey of PRG fit right in with the MMM (Mighty Maroon Machine of Maties).

Westville Boys fit right in with UKZN Westville campus. I stayed for a week for a hockey tournament with my laaitie in that bloubal apie nes. Need some improvement with the investment from Sharks rugby to develop those boys.

Siya Kolisi free to speak to Sharks after WP agree to release him from contract
By Staff Reporter Time of article published 30m ago

CAPE TOWN – After 11 years together, Siya Kolisi and Western Province have parted ways, and the Springbok captain is now expected to sign for the Sharks.

WP Rugby confirmed on Sunday morning that they had come to an agreement to release Kolisi from his contract early after a fee had been paid, leaving him open to talk to the Sharks.

“Kolisi's current contract was set to come to an end in October 2021 and although the union did everything possible to re-sign him, he chose not to take it up and has been released early from his contract, upon acceptance of a transfer fee,” WP Rugby said in a statement.

This comes despite Sharks chief executive Eduard Coetzee telling the media last week that they were not willing to pay a transfer fee.

Kolisi, who signed for Western Province Rugby straight out of Grey High School, said that he will always cherish the memories of his time in Cape Town.

"I would like to thank everyone at Western Province Rugby for what has been an incredible time in my life in which I have grown as a rugby player and a person.

"All of the coaches, management and teammates who had such a big influence on me over the last 11 years and especially the Stormers Faithful and people of Cape Town and beyond who made my time with the union so special. It has been a privilege to experience their support," he said.

Stormers and Province coach John Dobson thanked and wished his captain well for the future.

"Siya Kolisi will always be a Stormers legend, his story is well-known throughout the world and everyone here is grateful to have played a role in that. We would have loved for him to stay and finish his career where it started, but we wish him all the best.

"We have always done our best to retain the world-class talent we have at the union before looking elsewhere and we are looking forward to announcing some significant contract extensions with some of our experienced players in the near future," he said.

I'll wait for confirmation before I believe it, but what a coup by the $harks. This must be the biggest signing in our history. Still not totally thrilled by it, based on his recent form, but that could also have been the toxic environment he was training in. If we can turn Notche into the star that he is, perhaps we can get Kolisi back to his best form.

Win-win as far as I am concerned.

If Kolisi can regain his 2017 form with the Sharks, that will be great for SA Rugby going forward.

If not, it’s going to be fun watching Sharks fans lose their shit about the lemon they have just bought.

I don't think the reaction of fans has been overwhelmingly in favour of this signing.

Admittedly we haven't seen anyone nail down the 6 or 7 jersey in recent seasons, so it's an opportunity to bulk up our back row. But like you said, let's hope a new environment brings him back to his best.

Win win situation all round for WP.

He is expensive and a kak player for us. Scara will follow him to the Sharks to up their PoC stock.

This free up money to keep our important players like Kitshoff, Malherbe and PSdT.

You forgot that Kolisi was the reason for Notsche chicken run to the Sharks. He was a Springbok at WP and played well, syruggle with injuries but Kolisi kept him out of the starting team.

Which players will Kolisi keep out at the Sharks?

Right now I would rather be a kokrot than a WP player that can't get a contract. I am not excited about Kolisi....I only rate him in terms of marketing. Always said that. Until he proves himself at the Sharks...

Normally the captain is the last to leave a sinking ship....here he ran for the Sharks leaving his buddies to fend for themselves....something to ponder.....the ethos at the Sharks amongst the players is that stand together as a family.....we are not a team of over hyped self serving members.

Go organize a mass March to get Marais out dude...must I work out a plan for you okes...?

WP rugby is in shit....
WP cricket is in shit.....

Yesterday my son played in Somerset West...we bumvokked them twice in a day...my son top scored in the second match and was the most economical bowler...most economical bowler first game too. Was given the extra overs in both matches...very proud...but the parents were very angry about the state of WP cricket... its a mess and the kids are suffering. We have to go outside the union and arrange friendlies to get the kids game time...no plan.. no direction at WP cricket...the rugby is worse ..if this Province doesn't sort out its shut soon...I will have to go toy toy myself

It will be interesting to see what the Sharks do with the captain's armband. Am has never looked particularly comfortable with it, but is it wise to give it straight to the new kid on the block who also happens to be the Bok captain.

It will be interesting. Kolisi probably negotiated the captaincy as part of his package. I don't think Am has done badly. But Am plays under Kolisi in the national set up. Dylan Richardson will have to make way for 20 minutes each game. I just hope Kolisi isn't standing back watching the rucks in those 20 minutes.
I have mixed feelings. But like you say he might blossom here at the Sharks with the right environment. I just don't see how a leopard changes its spots

This situation is great for WP. We lose our captain and a great player, but using a cliche, every player is captain of his own position, we are making major bucks and Kolisi is a bit injury prone.

Seeing the backtracking from the saarks posters have been interesting to say the least. I am following this and the number of feet in mouths are staggering.

You continue to prove my point right. The reason those players are playing for the $harks is because the EPRU is a complete clusterfuck of a union.

Nothing wrong with the schools and catchment areas of EP. The talent is there.
