You blamed it on the Saffers earlier.

. New Zealand's strict bio-security protocols, where teams would only be able to gradually train in larger groups as they go through the 14-day isolation, was a primary reason why Australia were granted the Rugby Championship.

Australia's protocols allow teams to train together as an entire squad in a bio-security bubble from the first day.

Quarantine rules set to force key All Blacks out of Rugby Championship

RNZ understands a group of players have already told New Zealand Rugby they don't want to leave their young families for up to ten weeks, which would likely include spending Christmas in quarantine upon their return.

Those players include first-fives Richie Mo'unga and Beauden Barrett.

Mo'unga and his wife recently had their first child, while Barrett will become a father for the first time in the next month.

Halfback TJ Perenara, who has a newborn baby, wants to stay in New Zealand, which could leave the All Blacks coach Ian Foster with a big hole to fill in the playmakers role.

Winger Sevu Reece and his partner are also set to have their first child in the next month and several other players with young children are also reticent to head across the tasman, meaning it could be a vastly understrength All Blacks team that tackles the Rugby Championship.

Hearing what the South Africans and Argentinians are thinking would be interesting. If a number of players from all three travelling countries withdraw, is the tournament feasible? We have already had calls from South Africa for them not to participate due to lack of prep and the risk of not performing.

I would give it a 50/50 chance of progressing. I feel for Fozzie if we get a half-baked team together (all the single ones) - I wonder if Aussie will do the same and pull out.

Now that the games can be played with crowds after next week, surely we can have the Bledisloe games in Wellington to maximise income though.

Just scrap it already. The whole of 2020 has been a waste for international rugby. Let the AB's play through Mitre 10 and enjoy it.

I would like to see a half strength AB team pummel a full strength aussie team for laughs though

That's the way I'm leaning at the moment. Mid September now and nothing finalised... NZR should have gone to the islands & locked something in starting this month.

I think I read something similar for the Australians when this whole gig was supposed to be here in New Zealand.

10 weeks away is a fair while and probably more than most would want to commit too. Seems like a fair argument too. All well and good for us at home watching on tele or as a player in your home country but outside of that it's a bit of a drag.

Doubt it. They need the cash...

The "No Xmas" won't be a thing anyway - schedule will be tightened. Rejig the arrangements, like Jacinda is doing as we speak.

I respectfully disagree. Whilst I will enjoy watching the Mitre 10 Cup, I'll still enjoy it even without the AB's players. And nothing compares to watching an All Blacks test. If the Saffers and Pumas cannot make it, f*k them. They should just hold a Bledisloe Cup series.

As an aside, I think the fact that it's mid September and no-one has any idea what, if any tests, will be played is utterly pathetic. What the f**k are NZR and RA doing?

Just individual players not being able to commit for the entire length. It's a long time really 9-10 weeks away.

I reckon they should cancel the Rugby Championship. Sanzaar are just trying to rush it. Half the all black team don't want to go, half the Argentine team has covid19, and none of the boks or pumas players have played any type of rugby for half the year.

Save it for next year and plan it properly. I think only Saffas have taken Tri-Nations/RC trophies seriously anyway.

When you say half of the AB team don't want to go, does that mean that they are forfeiting their million dollar AB salaries? If so, surely there are some fringe players who would happily tour to Australia and give up some personal time in quarantine to earn test caps.

Waste of time really. The integrity of the competition is already undermined because of the complete lack of rugby played by the Saffas and Argies.

Oh I agree that the RC is a waste of time. But a proper 3 test Bledisloe Cup series should still be on the cards. I'd love to watch that. I agree that the Saffers and Pumas aren't match fit.

Picture of a guy who turned down the all blacks in the context of players turning down the all blacks?
