If Merc smash everyone else on Sunday, they’ll ban it. If RB win, FIA will let it slide.
That of course is not how it works.
Bit silly to give it the OK, then allow the protest. Flipping odd sport at times F1

FIA create the rules, then advise teams on how to interpret them. Stewards the judge if the interpretation is correct.

It's been like this forever - Double Diffuser, F-Duct, Fiddle Brake, Mass Damper, CVT, Twin Chassis, even the Fan Car - all ideas that were legal, some banned, some not

Stewards have okayed the Merc DAS.

Red Bull could appeal but probably won’t imho.

I haven't watched F1 since the days of Schumacher, Coulthard, Villeneuve etc but that documentary has got me back and interested again.
It got me very interested. But more so in more of the same documentary. The races are still so damn boring on the whole. But with the doco behind the scenes, additional footage, and focusing on mid table rivalries, it’s riveting.

Q1 See's both Williams, both Alfas, and Magnusson out. Russell just 0.07 away from getting into Q2, so there are promising signs

They're a lot closer to be fair. Last season , you had the front 3, the rest, and then Williams. Now I think you have a from 2/3, and the rest. Williams may be at the back of the rest, but they're not detached any more. It's a major step forwards

Renault, McLaren, and Tracing look very fast. Ferrari a long way off the pace. Red Bull gambled with Mediums, doesn't look to have worked, so Verstappen needs a clean lap on sorts to get through

Vettel out in Q2 :o

Verstappen's gamble with mediums appears to have paid off as virtually no-one went faster

That Ferrari is a long way off the pace

If the mercs don't crash into each other on the first corner, they'll lap the field.

You're a master of the understatement Saint !

I think we can mark this short season, as done already; & F1 have yet again completely failed to add some entertainment to the sport.

Bottas takes pole despite the off, Hamilton 2nd, then daylight to Verstappen.

Remember, these cars will be virtually the same next year now (except for McLaren who have an engine change) so barring development don't expect to see anything different next year

Go Lando!! :D :D McLaren looked pretty good - it will be a hell of a battle with the pink Mercs.

The real Mercs still the class of the field as anticipated but Red Bull strong and Max on the White Walls should give him good strategic options tomorrow. The midfield battle will probably be where the action is.

Pleased to see Williams are closing the gap. Russell is bloody impressive. Ferrari nowhere until they get their upgrades.

Btw the F2 round 1 was a good race. Callum Illott won it after Zhou (who was excellent) dropped back with a technical.

Alex Brundle was co-commentating - no doubt Dad gave a reference. He was pretty good though tbf, once we got past the first few sentences that he’d had the opportunity to think about too much.

I suspect that team orders will be largely ignored in the Ferrari garage this season

Is it customary for driving changes to be made this early into the year given the way that it changes team dynamics/loyalties?
Around this time of year is usually whensilky season gets into full swing. But it seems that with little else to do for the last 4-5 months everyone decided to get it out of the way.

This has created an unusual situation - normally you know, even if you're leaving the team, what they might still be fighting for as a team. Add to that Vettel's known penchant for disregarding team orders if he doesn't like them (multi22 etc) then this could all end very badly

Ferrari can be quite ruthless (Alain Prost) I think they would rest him if he played too many games

Not really; Max got pinged for exactly the same offence, in Mexico; & RB pointed this out to the stewards.

The Stewards need to be consistent.

And that ends the race as any sort of contest. Only question is whether Bottas can hold off Hamilton or is asked to move over.
