I think making a declaration that you are unemployed and therefore receiving state benefits yet having a job would be the questionable behaviour. That is largely quite different from any conflict of interest/corruption angle the current trough guzzling bunch of crooks have displayed.

Working for a local authority is a weird one.
They demand that everything you produce is theirs, they pay you, they own you and all you do even if you are a temp...so you couldn't wander over to the next local authority and sell your wares you created fir your local authority to them (with the requirements set out by the local authority that just paid you to do the work) .

Projects they've given you have to remain in house. They own you, it, the entire shaboodle.
"Hi Rhonda Cynon Taff, this is Refry from Bleanau Gwent, so this system will allow you to monitor and fulfil all the ongoing training requirement stats, of your Social Workers, to the latest Welsh Assembly guidelines, that will be 60 thousand pounds please".

But hey ho, I am not a Tory MP who lives in corrup'istan.

The Tories are getting nicely embroiled in a corruption scandal and Jeremy Corbyn's speechwriter decides that it's a good idea to get Labour in on the action.

It's a real mystery why we have a Tory government.

It does matter that Starmer wanted a second job. How does Starmer have any legitimacy to attack them for something he wanted to do? "Well I'm not as bad" isn't a justification. "With labour in power we'll have the right second jobs!". Okay.

I'm a supporter of the project as I strongly believe it's crucial to improving northern infrastructure and the productivity boost that gives all of us. It is however a complete pain in the arse as it's being built (the Chilterns tunnel starts near me) and of course the benefits are tangential at best to this area.
I remain hopeful that with a bit of thought and effort things like the Colne/Wendover viaducts will in time be regarded as modern Ribbleheads/Glenfinnans but we shall see. Right now it all looks horrendous.
I dunno. Northern infrastructure certainly needs improving but I'm still not sure how shaving a few minutes off the journey time is going to have much of an impact. It seems even less important now that we all use Zoom etc.
Particularly as the Government are about to cancel two of the extensions to the North and North East due to rising costs. So much for the Northern Powerhouse and a joined up rail network!!!

When will the pending By-Elections be held ?

I know that one is set to be uncontested; but the others will surely be taken as proper polls of the Bumblecunts performance; & the Corruption revelations; so Tory MPs will all surely be keenly watching any swings; & trying to map them to their own Constituencies.

If they're going to dump him; or persuade him to go for, "Health Reasons", or to "Spend more time with other men's Wives"; they don't have long to do so.

It sounds like; as we suspected; that the line of attack is against those listed as; "Consultants".
The FT wrote: Senior Conservatives in the UK are prepared to back a ban on outside consultancy work by MPs to stanch accusations of sleaze in a move that Cabinet ministers said could lead to a clear out of older long-serving Tory backbenchers.

The House of Commons on Monday evening is expected to endorse the original parliamentary standards report into disgraced Tory Owen Paterson, the former minister who was found to have breached rules over paid advocacy. Prime minister Boris Johnson’s botched attempt to reform the standards regime to protect Paterson, sparked an uproar over MPs’ outside interests and led to accusations of sleaze.

The parliamentary standards committee, led by Labour MP Chris Bryant, is now examining whether the regime allowing parliamentarians to have second jobs and outside interests should be reformed. The committee’s report is expected to be published by the end of the month.

The committee is expected to focus on whether MPs should be banned from taking on additional roles as political or parliamentary consultants.
According to figures from the register of MPs’ interests, at least 30 have recorded earnings from consultancy work.

One senior Cabinet minister said banning consultancy roles was “attractive” because it would “remove the lobbying risk”. But they warned it would lead to many older Tory MPs quitting parliament.

....

“There’s definitely scope to draw a clear line on policy consultancy which inevitably creates a conflict, as long as its clear that it’s specific to potential conflicts like that, and not about public service or unconnected outside experience that adds value to policymaking,” one Tory said.

The government’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Committee on Standards in Public Life, recommended in 2018 that MPs should “not undertake outside employment as a parliamentary strategist, adviser or consultant”. It concluded that such roles “can lead to MPs having a privileged relationship with one organisation, and therefore bring undue influence to bear on parliament”.
https://www.ft.com/content/ec3b884d-4c0 ... 1c6b932650

The problem is; of course; that water; & corruption seeks the lowest point. So last year Grayling got 100k for being a consultant; next year he gets 110k for delivering 4x motivational speeches to company employees.

Nothing changes !

You can't even link the money, to an output; because IDS & the Bumblecunt; can still pull in the corrupt money by spending 1hr a week to belch out an article for the, Daily Heil, or the Torygraph (or just have them ghost written).

The default position has to be that an MP can serve only one master; & if they want to do a second job; they need to enter a serious justification as to why the should be allowed to; & how it can never end up as a conflict of interest.

Torys have tolerated, & encouraged this shitstain of an MP for years; so it's good enough for them to now have him fuck them up.
Boris Johnson’s attempt to draw a line under the sleaze scandal engulfing the Conservative party fell apart after a Tory MP blocked parliament endorsing a report that found a former colleague committed an egregious breach of lobbying rules.

The backbencher Christopher Chope was named by multiple sources as the person who objected to ratifying the findings about Owen Paterson’s behaviour which followed a two-year investigation by the Commons standards watchdog.

The government had tried to shunt the vote to the end of the day but put forward a motion that only one MP needed to object to in order for it to fail. In a deeply embarrassing move for the prime minister, one Tory cried out “object” late on Monday night – prolonging the resolution of the issue that has prompted some MPs to warn tensions are “frighteningly high” within the Conservative party.

Chris Bryant, a Labour MP and chair of the standards committee, said he had been assured the motion would be retabled on Tuesday with a one-hour debate to try again to endorse the Paterson report. Chope was contacted for comment.

Fury from Tories exploded at the issue being prolonged, with a minister telling the Guardian: “He has been for many year a Jurassic embarrassment – tonight he crossed a line. The man should retire and the executive are livid. If he comes into the team room tomorrow, colleagues would want to say two words to him and the second word would be ‘off’.”

Police were called to the home of Boris Johnson and his partner, Carrie Symonds, in the early hours of Friday morning after neighbours heard a loud altercation involving screaming, shouting and banging.
