So if you want to better your chances, you can ask a few people to do the same on your behalf, but if you're lucky and are chosen with every entry, you could be sitting on plenty of tickets.
You only pay for the tickets you want, you don't have to accept them all if get a bonanza. Just reject the ones you don't want (although I'm sure any number of friends would take a ticket off your hands at face value).
Ah, didn't know that. Thanks bruv.

My info from Springbok is that the flowers aint that great up north. West Coast very good and from Calvinia, Nieuwoudtville , Clan William area also good.

Watching flowers and snow is the same thing. Should just wake up in the morning when the weather is right and drive and watch.

Had a client in Alexander Bay (they have now been thoroughly SOE'd), so to visit them I would fly to Upington and then drive 5 and a half hours to get there, Keimoes, Kakamas, Pofadder, Springbok and Port Nolloth, lots of stop and go's between Springbok and Port Nolloth. Literally the middle of nowhere with miles of nothing, but I used to love that drive. Interesting in summer was seeing European cars doing hot weather testing on the stretch between Pofadder and Springbok. Once was passed by a semi disguised Rolls Royce towing some kind of test trailer, must have been going at faster than 220.

Beautiful desolation!

I grew up in Alexander Bay. You missed Aggeneys?

That 5 hour drive, that's what NWK rugby players had to do twice in a week from Alexanderbaai. They drive to Upington on Thursday and back on Sunday. Luckily the mine gave them leave to play rugby. I use to play club rugby for Springbok. It's central in the region and we traveled to Oranjemund, Alexanderbaai, Kleinzee, Aggeneys to play. Most are 120 kms away.

A few of Springbok players were blacklisted for diamond smuggling, then we have to pick up players in Port Nolloths bar on our way to try and get our teams full. We often played with 13 men and still win.

That's a story for another day

I missed Aggeneys (and O'Kiep). Love the people from the area. (Well the ones that still live there).

Don't know when the last time was that you visited Alexanderbaai, but it is sadly deteriorating with the decline of the mine. The fact that the operation is a partnership between the state owned mining company and the Richtersveld community has led to no one really taking ownership and the town facilities and the irrigation system, the dairy and farming infrastructure is all dead.

Some pics:

Golf course, until recently, looked OK, primarily because the mines CEO took an interest. He is now gone, politics.

Image

Hand painted crest from the boardroom on the mine.

Image

That platteland rugby must have been something else. I have chatted about the old days to a few former Ammosal players (although more than 800km from Alexander bay still roughly where they would travel to for games ) where they would explain that on trips to play rugby, the mine bus would invariably break down on the way back...The Ammosal story is another great platteland rugby one, sadly now gone...
