A lot of experts also point out that once a lawyer does sign up, there's zero chance the Judge will let them ditch him, regardless of how badly he behaves, because the Judge won't want the trial to drag on forever; so once you're in, you're in for keeps
Most judges wouldn't allow it, but is that cannon?
No, it's up to the Judge; but the experts reckon that Judges just don't like lawyers playing this particular game, to delay, as it fucks with the Judges docket, & immediately a new lawyer comes in, they're going to demand time to get up to speed, etc, etc & we're already talking about a 78 year old on trial, with no decision before the election.
The thing here is the judge might want to run the clock out, leaving the prosecution chanting c'mon Aileen but in essence spinning their wheels

If she doesn't recuse, after being bitch slapped by her appeal court superiors (all Republicans), then I think the Feds will appeal, & she'll be replaced by a more senior Judge (who will also be a Republican, but probably appointed by W)

I hope she does recuse, but if she didn't I could also easily see judges say having a ruling overturned on appeal doesn't mean a judge is biased, even when the standard is only a judge must recuse if there's an appearance of bias
And tbh there are plenty of bat shit crazy judges, you could easily get another loon
I would in all this like to know how much the deck was stacked when she was randomly selected, as a point of interest if nothing else

But it was the early days of THIS CASE !, & the appeal was granted because the appeal court stated that she had no right to interfere in the lawful execution of subpoena, & then she compounded this by saying that because the orange traitor was an ex-President, that he somehow deserved a different form of justice.
She's already shown bias, & her desire to should favouritism to the defendant.

I'm just not sold it follows that because a person has previously been shown to act in bad faith it'll they'll subsequently act in good faith.
And I think bigger picture the judiciary could well take issue with the notion that having a ruling overturned implies unacceptable bias, there's a uniqueness of the case Vs a general theme issue there, and in advance I'd consider that could go either way

In more positive news, he's getting roasted in the replies, even by his own side.

This is all a bit of a worry really
President Biden caused confusion when he finished a speech by saying “God save the Queen, man”.
Biden, 80, made the comment, which later appeared in the White House transcript of the speech in Connecticut, as he spoke about efforts to end gun violence. It was not clear whether the president was referring to Elizabeth II, who died in September. Biden flew to the UK for her funeral.
Olivia Dalton, the White House deputy press secretary, said the president had been “commenting to someone in the crowd”. It is not clear to whom he was speaking.
Last September, Biden asked during a speech, “Where’s Jackie?” as he searched for Jackie Walorski, an Indiana congresswoman who had died in a car accident the month before. In April, he appeared to forget about his recent visit to Ireland, despite having gushed about his roots in Dublin days earlier when meeting schoolchildren at the White House

I'd viewed this confusion and forgetfulness as the challenge of any politician - nothing is said from the heart, everything they say is essentially for some perceived gain so is usually a interpretation of truth, so I'm not surprised they can flounder. 'Am I supposed to be Irish this week'. 'Who am I supposed to name check'. 'What donor group do I need to flatter'. I'm not surprised mistakes are made.
In saying that, he's definitely getting more wobbly.

Is that where he goes on to the old “I needed to keep the boxes with the top secret, highly classified documents because some of my old golf shirts were in there” defence?

Saying he didn't have documents, they were just newspaper cuttings, when they removed the documents from his place is a novel defence

I’ve just seen another clip of this where he boasts about giving clemency to Alice Johnson.
Only for it to be pointed out that under his current manifesto (if you can call it that), she’d be given the death sentence.

The GOP's donors/paymasters know that Trump is cooked. He's no longer any use to them for gaining political control and legislating favourably for the wealthy and their corporation, however, there's still a substantial portion of the Republican base that's still very invested in the Trump personality cult. So they need the trusted propaganda engines like Fox to start undermining him in the eyes of the loyal viewers (voters).

The Deranged Special Prosecutor, Jack Smith, working in conjunction with the DOJ & FBI, illegally leaked and “spun” a tape and transcript of me which is actually an exoneration, rather than what they would have you believe. This continuing Witch Hunt is another ELECTION INTERFERENCE Scam. They are cheaters and thugs!

His grasp on reality was never great, but it's really gone down the shitter the last few years.
Never forget, this tape was made by his fluffers !!
I'm now convinced that the way the Feds got it, is that they showed Meadows the list of charges he faces in the Jan 6th case, & he "remembered", how he had this tape that might just be useful to them.

Affirmative action is gone.
The right are over the moon. Now they'll be able to use loads of other non-academic criteria that are not racial to ensure that only the right people go to third level.

They should have reframed it ages ago and made it about income. Would have basically captured the same numbers of Hispanics and blacks and minorities and neutered the race argument. America is addicted to race related bullshit though so no dice
Next step will be to reduce the number of women attending third level.
This is a different proposition to other culture wars stuff; affirmative action/positive discrimination cuts across the lives of a lot of people who aren't just flat out racists, looking for an excuse to bitch.
For example, I knew a guy in the SF PD, he worked his way up the ranks & was a good cop, but after losing out twice in the promotion panels to candidates who didn't come close to him, he just said fuck it & took early retirement. I don't think any reasonable person would consider it unnatural to be pissed off at a situation like this, unless they also think that women shouldn't be pissed off at their glass ceiling, or being denied equal pay, for equal work. Multiply that out by several million, & you have why this decision will get a different reception than that the Democrats may prefer.
I agree that a much better approach is to just focus on the inequality of opportunity, which is something America always pride itself on, & ditch the focus on race.

We don't know if he was seen as a witness or target, actually I don't even know if he went along himself or just his lawyer went, and we don't know to what degree he cited attorney client privilege nor if he did if he was told there was an exception. Whatever, the ice he's on is very, very thin

That ship sailed long ago !
While the orange traitor might avoid gaol, because of deference to his being a Former President, Rudy ain't going to get any such consideration, & he & Eastman, & the other wingnuts are up to their necks in illegal shit, & no one will think twice about sticking him in an 8 by 4 cell.
As always in a criminal conspiracy, he who jumps first gets the best deal, & I think Meadows jumped a long time ago, & dropped everyone else in the shit. Cassidy Hutchinsons testimony did for him.

So not content with scrapping affirmative action based on race (but continuing to allow every other form of affirmative action), the US supreme court has now ruled that discrimination against LGBT people is perfectly okay if you're religious and it's based on a made up request by a gay couple who don't exist
The person named on the wedding request on question is a real person but they are straight and married to their wife for 15 years!
