Have any of you had a memory of a piece of music haunt you for 40 years? A wispy, forgotten tendril of something you couldn't quite remember, couldn't successfully put a finger on? I knew I'd seen it. I knew there were lengths of pvc pipe and a flexible length of hose whirling overhead. I couldn't recall what or where it was... and other, cheap imitations of the pvc pipe ensemble only served to frustrate that annoying tickle of memory.

I found the fucking thing. 40 bloody years.

They don't have the 'rock star' look, but they make some good music!

I know... it's Saturday, but today is my birthday and a conversation with my sisters reminded me of this and dammit, a rollicking tune is apt

You might not have 50 minutes to spare on a dissection of an 80s album from Australia, which would be shame and a loss. The Go Betweens never achieved the chart success they so richly deserved. 40 years down the track, so much of this album still sounds fresh and vital. Streets of Your Town has been my favourite Australian song pretty much since it was released and it stands out here, the examination of it starts at 29:40 or so. There's a lot of insight here into the workings of a band and the relationships within it, all of which came together to create a masterpiece. The drummer, Lindy Morrison provides some hilarious and sharp views.
