JD has been a very good aerial lock, probably the best locally. He and Moerat were a very good combination and own WP products from u13 days. Look like Moerat is almost back.

WP still have Maties Christopher Schreuder. He study aktuaris, so not sure if he have enough time. Massive Grey College talent.

Abner and Libbok is a bit up and down. Libbok will be a better 15 then Sergual Petersen, who worries me everytime he field kicks. Goosen will nail him with up and unders on Friday.

Time for a complete clean out. Its unacceptable that a union with the top rugby schools, two of the top Varsity cup sides and a huge grassroots support base should have underachieved like WP have. Their management has been poor for over a decade now. Dodgy business deals and rampant nepotism. Jurie Roux is the last person who should be casting judgement over this lot. He has a very dodgy past and how he escaped the Maties scandal I will never know.

Ai. And now you understand why I can't stand the attitude of WP and its supporters. They are a basket case that SARU has been supporting financially for years now. At the expense of the Cheetahs and the Lions. Imagine what could have been done at the Cheetahs if SARU financed half their players salaries.
Imagine what the Lions could have done with that resource. Which other Union has an oversight committee from SARU assisting their Union. And yet WP have a madly devoted supporter base that are just pliant vegetables. Even if WP does kak they fill the stadium. I feel most sorry for the Cheetahs.

Evan Roos sign 4 more years with WP

WP site
Four more years for Roos with WPPR
PUBLISHED: 14 hours ago

Dynamic loose forward Evan Roos has signed a contract extension with Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR) that will see him playing for the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province until at least 2025.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation at the back of the scrum for both the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province, since signing an initial contract earlier this year.
The all-action No.8 had an eye-catching Carling Currie Cup campaign, which saw him score eight tries and make consistent contributions on both attack and defence for DHL Western Province.
Having recovered from a minor leg injury, Roos in now poised to make an impact for the DHL Stormers in the upcoming United Rugby Championship, starting with a four-match European tour.
DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said that given Roos’ impressive form this year, it made sense to commit him to a long-term contract.
“We are delighted to have a player of Evan’s quality on our books for at least the next four years. There is no doubt that he has made massive strides since joining us and we are excited to see how much better he can get within our system in the years to come,” he said.
Chairman Ebrahim Rasool said that if this long-term contract doesn’t signal WPPR’s intention to build a squad of the highest quality, nothing else will.
“Evan has thrived in our system this year. This extension is part of our growth and consolidation strategy. There will be others in the period ahead as we further implement our Vision 2023, which we announced some time ago.
“We are also looking forward to confirming a few additions which will strengthen our squad next week ahead of the United Rugby Championship,” he said.
Roos said that it made sense for him to commit to WPPR given how he has grown in the environment both on and off the field this year.
“I really feel at home here and I am looking forward to the next four years, working with the coaches and players that we have here to achieve greater things.
“I am still quite young and have got great opportunities to grow as a player here already, so to know that I will be here for at least the next four years means that I can focus on my rugby and doing what I love most,” he said.

WP Rugby
Libbok and Smith sign with DHL Stormers
Flyhalf Manie Libbok and lock Adre Smith have both signed three-year contracts with Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR) ahead of the United Rugby Championship.
These signings come on the back of loan deals with loose forwards Junior Pokomela and Willie Engelbrecht and scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer, along with the short-term signing of experienced prop Brok Harris.
These acquisitions have bolstered the DHL Stormers ahead of a four-match tour of Europe which will see them face Benetton Treviso, Munster, Edinburgh and the Dragons in the coming weeks, without the services of the seven DHL Stormers players currently with the Springbok squad.
Libbok is a fleet-footed and versatile backline player, who is comfortable at both flyhalf and fullback, while Smith is an imposing second row forward who will add significant grunt to the pack.
DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said that while both players will bring valuable depth in key positions in the short-term, they also have the potential to develop and grow their games significantly in the years ahead.
“Manie is known as a devastating runner who can threaten from anywhere on the field and Adre brings serious power and momentum, both with and without the ball.
“These two players together embody what our team wants to stand for by being hard and uncompromising up front and then a skilful threat out wide.
“They will be valuable additions this season and we know that they will be working hard to take their game to the next level over the next three years,” he said.
WPPR Chairman Ebrahim Rasool said that the acquisition of Libbok and Smith makes sense for the DHL Stormers for the upcoming campaign and beyond.
“Both of these players are 24 years old, so while they have the experience required to make an impression right away, they also have the potential to develop themselves from within our system in the coming years.
“We are very excited to see what they can offer us and look forward to seeing them in action for the DHL Stormers on an international stage in the United Rugby Championship,” he said.

SS
“I want Manie to come here and be an attacking flyhalf, it is that pure and simple,” said Dobson. “He has outstanding attacking skills and we want him to showcase those and give us an attacking edge that will be a level up from what we were able to produce in the Currie Cup and the other competitions we have played recently.”

Dobson has another Bull from the Mitchell era on his books in the form of fullback Warrick Gelant, and it appears a video of the pair impressing together played a part in swaying Dobson into contracting the by then Sharks player.

“I watched a game on video when Mitchell was the Bulls coach, I think it was against the Hurricanes, and the way Warrick, who is our fullback now, and Manie played off he each other was just sublime, absolutely unbelievable, and that’s what we will be looking for,” said the Stormers coach.

Surprised WP haven't bought UCT's James Tedder in. He's impressed me a lot at Varsity cup level. He's pretty polished and at 24 has some experience under his belt. Must be nearly finished his studies by now.

Hoping Libbok can kick on though. He has all the talent but its tough to be an undersized player in midfield channels in modern rugby.

Sards you are early on pappegaai twak this morning?

Enjoy it. I have seen somewhere a photo where Kade attended a kicking skills day with Lambie when he was in primary school at De Hoop.

He is only 20 years old and you compare him with his childhood hero.

That's OK.

NEWLANDS UPDATE: Under fire Western Province Rugby Football Union President Zelt Marais has launched a last-ditch, desperate bid to stave off being placed under administration by the South African Rugby Union.

Marais revealed his plan for an ‘urgent strategic intervention’ at the continuation of a council meeting – postponed from September 9 – on Thursday.

The two points on the agenda were (1.) Staytus – the way forward and (2.) Western Province Professional Rugby’s request for funding.

It was at Thursday’s resumption that Marais put his ‘War Room’ plans on the table.

The last-minute introduction – which saw constituents only getting the proposal 30 minutes before the meeting – was approved despite the meeting barely having a quorum.

Of those in attendance 40 voted in favour of Marais’ proposal, 14 voted against and four abstained.

Among the actions in Marais’ master plan is the setting up of a ‘War Room’ environment, that will “operate until all critical short term matters are addressed and resolved satisfactorily” and an effective longer-term strategic framework is in place and moving forward.

This, according to the proposal, has already been initiated.

“The War Room will be set up in the President suite of the Newlands stadium and any member of the [WPRFU] council is free to visit at any time,” Marais’ proposal stated.

They will also establish a ‘strategy committee’ (Stratco) – including key internal and stakeholder members, as well as specialist, professional, external resources.

Marais’ initial specialist team includes 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok Hennie le Roux – listed as an ‘influential rugby sector professional; and successful businessman’.

His ‘Stratco focus’ will be: “Professional rugby sector and structural advisory.”

(Continue below …)
Zelt-war-room-1

Other members of the specialist team include:
* Gary Craul – listed by Marais as a highly experienced strategist and business leader with strong technology, innovation and investment related expertise. Stratco Focus: Intervention lead; strategic advisory; funding; structure and partnerships.
* Guy Harris – listed as a highly respected strategic and financial advisor, investor and business leader. Stratco Focus: Business and transaction structuring; finance and funding advisory.
* Lawrence Helmann – listed as one of SA’s leading commercial legal practitioners; and serves on the executive team of Africa’s leading law firm. Stratco Focus: Key legal and structural input.
* Justin Mancer – listed as a successful entertainment and sports professional; marketing executive and promoter. Stratco Focus: Marketing and communication strategy; partnering initiatives; and public relations (PR).
* Johan van der Colff – listed as an industry leading entertainment, music and technology specialist; business owner and technical production executive. Stratco Focus: Technology; entertainment and media advisory.

The WPRFU representatives are the ‘presidency’; WPPR directors Sabelo Mzanywa and Philip Burns; as well as WPRFU council representatives Basier Dramat, Andre Kermis, Rashied Combrink, Stephen Sharwood, Simphiwe Diebusuku and Dianna Pfaff.

It is worth noting that none of the dissenting voices from within the current WPRFU and WPPR structures are included in Marais’ plan.

Executive members like Ronald Bantom (vice-president), Reuben Riffell, Quentin Van Rooyen and Anele Zita have been excluded.

“All negative dynamics should be avoided and discouraged in support of this objective,” Marais said.

The plan is for ‘small working groups’ to focus on specific issues or aspects – such as short term funding; the property development scenario; potential sponsorship opportunities; a longer term strategic framework; specific future investment partner options; the effective management of all reputational, market and communications related matters.

Marais listed a number of issues and ‘negative dynamics’ that he felt contributed to the union’s current problematical financial situation.

This includes the “ongoing trends” around spectator attendance at stadia; the WPRFU’s well-documented “property situation”; the fact that the WPRFU is the “only major union that has yet to finalise a strategic shareholder model and bring in external equity partners” and funding and the devastating and ongoing “impact of COVID”.

One wonders how big the commission is that Zelt will be getting from the Staytus deal?
Love the "specialists" he has bought in. A quick Google reveals that none of them have any credentials or credibility. They are all nobodies.

This is going to happen in all our provinces. We follow cricket. Happen when they force BEE on management via clubs.

Marais reportedly refused to leave the meeting and demanded that clubs showed him the minutes of the meeting where they decided to hold a vote of no confidence. Marais further apparently threatened to place clubs into administration.

According to the report, the chaos at the meeting got to the point that club representatives started walking out.
