I see he's back in Durban. Would have been nice to at least see him come off the bench. Let's hope it pushes Penxe to put in a much-needed big game.Sards wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 10:04 am Very good team. Hopefully V D Mescht adds the extra fetcher role as well as brawn we will need. We need to dominate and contest the collisions. Thats where the Stormers were strong last. Win our set pieces. And stop kicking the ball away.
But most of all the ref needs to be made aware of the dirty play by the Stormers thugs
You don't have the forwards on your books to do that.Sards wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 4:34 pmWe need to dominate and contest the collisions. Thats where the Stormers were strong last. Win our set pieces. And stop kicking the ball away.

You do have backs, you just need to pick a 10 who can unleash them.
Sadly it ain't Curwin.
Sadly I think its Everitt rather than Curwin. He seems stuck on Jake's 2007 strategy. There are glimmers of hope in some set piece moves but he hasn't got the best out of this team. Everitt went for mobile loose forwards instead of big bruisers like Jake. This may come back and bite him in the ass. I certainly miss the JL and Dan's. Jake showed that by making it a forwards battle and winning that contest the backline is taken out of the game.Chilli wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 5:01 pmYou don't have the forwards on your books to do that.Sards wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 4:34 pmWe need to dominate and contest the collisions. The Stormers lose trio is perfect. Understand Willie is also in the Bok group. He bring the balance to the other two very busy hard working PSdT & Evan Roos.
Their backup on the bench is Theunissen with Ernst & Trokkie.
Springbok frontrow in Kitshoff, Bongi & Malherbe. Backup in Ali, Scarra & Neethling.
Second row JD & Orie backed up by Adre Smith/Ernst/ PSdT.
Not even the Bulls have this depth.
Hope they play like a hunger desperate side in the rain.

However, the main reason for the selection is that Willie has played at No.6 before and he is in the [Springbok] alignment camps and in the national frame.
“To leave him out of such a big game would be odd.

Tough as nails and the perfect replacement for Duanne.
I disagree. Look at his form in 2020; a string of man of the match performances that led us to the top of the table. You might not like him as a player, but he's proven he's got the goods.Chilli wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 5:01 pm You do have backs, you just need to pick a 10 who can unleash them.

This year is a different story for him. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a different gameplan from the Sharks, different scrumhalves, pack that isn't dominating like it did.

Willie Engelbrecht is a journeyman. He's tough but has nowhere near the skill and size of Vermeulen or Faletau. He stood out in a Pumas side and looks OK in the Stormers side. But at the age of 28 he really has not proven that he can mix it at the highest level. He hasn't even played Super Rugby let alone test rugby.
We have Jasper Wiese, Du Plessis brothers, Hanro Liebenberg and many others who are excelling in extremely tough leagues. These guys have the pedigree and track records to back up their Bok claims. These guys are muuuch better that Willie.
Its not enough to be an yster playing for the Pumas. We've selected a good few forgotten boks on this basis who got shown up at Test level. Dewald Potgieter and Jacques Potgieter spring to mind.
We absolutely cannot afford to take chances against the Lions when guys like the Du Plessis brother are fit and in form.

I think Jannie and Bismarck are a bit past their sell by date and to play them out of position is madness.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 7:09 am Willie Engelbrecht is a journeyman.
