It’s a simple calculation really; they figure the EFF will eventually go far enough to take over everything, and when they do, these okes want to be in the top ranks so that they can get their turn at the feeding trough.

Completely deluded though for 3 reasons;
1. They are unlikely to ever achieve that because most of their leaders and too corrupt and incompetent to ever get that far, but the world is a weird shitshow so anything is possible I guess.
2. Should they somehow get to where they want to go, there will be almost nothing left of the country to loot
3. No way are they going to let some white boy get the crumbs of what is left.

Acton Homes.
Hope things have settled down Heidelberg way and you aren't having any more issues with any more Mozambicans.
Settled down yes, had to spend the day in Lichtenburg. For those mining inclined, a Saturday Section 54. Got home in time to watch the match (with the right result). Got a headsup from a neighbor re. a transformer (not mine but on neighbouring property) that is a target. So watching same. Might have some action tonight. Probably wont. Might sleep, probably wont. Sometimes platteland sucks.
How did it go?

(Obviously, the rugby was kak)

I thought of you as I drove past Heidelberg on my way down to Nottingham Road yesterday afternoon.

Thanks Rinky, it was very quiet. Only excitement was when a porcupine came rustling past where I was parked in the bakkie, giving me a massive skrik!! They can be noisy, curious buggers.

Enjoy the Midlands!

That's quality

Nice way to diffuse some of the tension that comes along with name changes.

I can't comment on the processes that were followed to arrive at the names, but I quite like them.

Isn't Azania a reference to Eastern Africa?

Finding a name for SA that everyone likes will be impossible. Too many parties to please.

Change it to a nice long Khoi San name so I can listen to international commentators trying to say the name while commentating on rugby, cricket, soccer, et.

Same. Mzanzi also works for me.

South Africa sounds like a geographic region (or a continent foe the really ignorant), but not a country.

I’m in favour anything that removes unnecessary ambiguity.

EDIT: Azania is also lekker as it will put us quite high up on alphabetical country lists. I hate having to scroll down and up looking to find SA when selecting it on a form.

The one that always seemed perverse to me was the renaming of the Embankment to Margaret Mncadi Avenue.

Rename Hendrik Verwoerd Avenue by all means, but what's so distressing about "The Embankment"?

Impossible to pronounce, as far as I can tell, Margret Mncadi was an obscure ANCWL President of very little impact.

The renaming of Kingsway in Amanzimtoti to Andrew Zondo Road, too, seems calculated to antagonise.

This is very true, all the time while i was overseas, countless times when I told someone I was from South Africa, they would ask, which country in South Africa.

I fully agree on the form scrolling, would be good to just pick one of the first on the list.

From my childhood Xhosa, Mzansi means down, at the bottom, or something like that, which still is a sort of geographical location. And my memory of Azania is that it was the proposed name that they were going to give to a country for the Jewish race, in Uganda I think, as an alternative to the formation of Israel.

Aazania. We get put at the top of the lists (Azania would still put us behind 10 countries), and we get the double a to make it look a bit afrikaans too

Assistance needed

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this, but I am afraid I cannot deal with it alone. I yesterday dropped off my daughter at the airport for her long journey, fraught with danger, into the enemy’s heartland, the broederbonder capital, the matie enclave, the province bastion.

Now what do I do to prevent her from mixing with the wrong crowd and pitching up back home with a province supporting, papsak swilling bolander?

Don't know about that. I still got to do all the boys rugby stuff, travelled the country for the girls' hockey but invariably would take in the rugby as well. Beauty of it was I did not have to feed the rugby boys, and even when they stayed over for a weekend I could pack them off to school again on a Monday.

Daughter played hockey IPT's at u/16 and U/18 level and multiple school's tournaments away per year. I had great fun as an honorary hockey mom.

Which school and province?

My laaitie played hockey, Boland from u13 level. Played SA indoor u16 and outdoor u18. They (Boland) won gold when he was u16 and bronze at u18. Probably wont happen ever again. His tournaments took me everywhere.

Paul Roos played in founders and won CT Internal Tournament 4 years in a row.

Met lifelong friends at the tournaments. Lynloper van formaat!
