Yep. Those two certainly empty the tank every game. Wiese is always a card risk though but that's his style. Ruan Ackerman for Gloucester and Jacques Vermeulen also looked good in highlights for their respective teams. Saffer loose forwards are a bit like Fijian wingers at the moment.
Wiese was at his best, but he does play it so close to the bone.FalseBayFC wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 4:18 am Yep. Those two certainly empty the tank every game. Agreed about our loose forwards. I see Augustus is quickly finding good form for Saints too.

Benhard Janse van Rensburg has been superb for LI since he joined this season. Primarily at 12. Flying under the radar as we're not on TV much, but he's putting in some big performances.

One of my favorite players, But Pollie has been a geldwolf since his schooldays. I guess no harm in boosting the pension fund.OomStruisbaai wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 4:27 pm https://www.leicestertigers.com/news/21 ... ng-pollard

SOUTH AFRICAN TEENAGER SWAPS EDINBURGH FOR BATH
Online EditorsONLINE EDITORS
TRANSFER NEWS: Edinburgh confirmed that teenage centre Jordan Venter has joined English Premiership side Bath with immediate effect.
Venter, 19, makes the permanent move to The Rec having joined the Scottish capital club last December.
“Jordan is a hard-working player with a great attitude, but given the current competition for places in the centre, and Jordan’s ambitions for more game time, we felt it was the right time for him to move on and test himself in another playing environment,” coach Mike Blair, said.
“We wish him the very best moving forward and thank him for his commitment to the jersey during his time in Edinburgh.”
Venter joined Edinburgh straight after the conclusion of the South African academic year in 2020 – from Stellenbosch’s Paul Roos Gymnasium school.
Bath Director of Rugby Stuart Hooper said: “Jordan is someone we have seen potential in for a long time.
“He is a young, dynamic centre, who can also play wing, and we have watched a lot of him.
“He is very ambitious, very hungry and has a lot of attributes we look for off the field too.”
Born and raised in George, Western Cape, Venter represented South Western Districts at an early age.
In a bid to further his career, Venter made the move to Stellenbosch’s Paul Roos Gymnasium .
He was named in the under-16 Western Province Elite Squad before a shoulder injury derailed Venter’s bid to compete at Craven Week.
Venter was also named vice-captain of the South Africa Under-18 Sevens.

He was recruited straight out of school. He was injured for a good part of his first team time at Paul Roos so was living mostly on his reputation as an U15 and U16 player. That's far to early to make any kind of investment decision in my opinion. Especially bringing him from SA, housing him, medical expenses etc. Edinburgh got conned by some canny agent for sure. By all accounts he has lots of potential though. I think the Edinburgh scouts were looking for another Duhan vDM.
Not many of the straight from school poaches have worked out. The pathway there is to go and play for semi-pro and lower div clubs in your gap year. Self financed and then get into a bigger club.
That makes sense then. Bath are in a terrible spot at the moment, so he's certainly not hunting for silverware.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 6:40 am He was recruited straight out of school. I can see why they Edinburgh may have got a little stiff about him. This was him at 18. But you know, Pierre Spies and all that...assfly wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 6:58 amThat makes sense then. Man of the match performance from AE last night. He was outstanding. So was Green, he just gets better and better.
Augustus also had a cracking game with 2 tries. Skosan looking in very good form too, apart from a brain fart in the last 5 minutes.

Give Skosan the ball in space and he will score you a ton of tries.Oxbow wrote: Tue Dec 28, 2021 8:45 am Augustus looks a great signing for Saints. Skosan I'm still undecided, he's scored a few good tries but also had a couple of shockers defensively. How is his defence rated generally by Saffers?

No doubt, it's the other side of his game I have concerns about.handyman wrote: Tue Dec 28, 2021 8:48 amGive Skosan the ball in space and he will score you a ton of tries.Oxbow wrote: Tue Dec 28, 2021 8:45 am Augustus looks a great signing for Saints. He’s from the Lions. $hark$ forced him in a kak gameplan.
Yes, our new mandatory tackling policy really wasn't fair on him.

His apperances for the boks this year were underwhelming tbf. I would rather like to see guys like Dan du Preez, Elrigh Louw or Evan Roos given a try at 8.

Wiese's only 26 years old and we've invested quite a bit in him so far. Duane Vermeulen debuted for the Boks at 26. Jasper's a card risk but that can be worked on. Elrigh Louw and Evan Roos are the future but won't be ready for 2023 RWC imo. They've had very limited game time against top oppo.
What about Dan du Preez or Marcel Coetzee?FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:07 pm Wiese's only 26 years old and we've invested quite a bit in him so far. He does appear to be a bit of a penalty macine in the Premiership. He's certainly anjoyable to watch and is hard as nails but doesn't appear to learn from his errors!FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:07 pm Wiese's only 26 years old and we've invested quite a bit in him so far. Wiese haven't disappointed in the few chances he got.
They grow up tough at Upington HS

I'd have Dan du Preez and a fit Coetzee before Snyman. Marcel Coetzee went off early against the Sharks if I recall correctly. I hope he's OK. Jasper is a bit of a force of nature and I still think he has a fair amount of upside.handyman wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:10 pmWhat about Dan du Preez or Marcel Coetzee?FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:07 pm Wiese's only 26 years old and we've invested quite a bit in him so far. ...which was quite embarassing. He was running riot in super rugby week in week out, only to be left out of the boks for years due to PdVs manlove for Pierre Spies' physiqueFalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:07 pm Wiese's only 26 years old and we've invested quite a bit in him so far. Esterhuizen continuing to show that he's in the top 5 inside centres in world rugby. Cue lots of gnashing of teeth and wailing from a lot of the Sharks haters on this forum. But if they put their prejudice aside and understand that he's a Klerksdorp born plattleland boy they could get behind the campaign to make him the Bok 12. Yes I know DDA is great and has an amazingly stubbled chin but I earnestly think Ysterhuizen has more to offer. He's taller, heavier, faster and has a better passing game.
It's a national shame that Andre has been overlooked. If I could pick a centre pairing post 1994 it would be the two Andre's. Andre Snyman and Andre Esterhuizen.

The snubbing of the Du Preez twins is an absolute disgrace. They're still only 26 years old, the age at which Duane Vermeulen debuted, it would be an absolute shame if they didn't both play a significant part in the Bok set up going forward.
He has been nothing short of magnificent in the UK.FalseBayFC wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:06 pm Esterhuizen continuing to show that he's in the top 5 inside centres in world rugby. Sadly as soon as Sards declares his man love for a player, the rest of us distance ourselves from him. :-)
They certainly have grown as players since playing in the UK and are superb.FalseBayFC wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:08 pmThe snubbing of the Du Preez twins is an absolute disgrace. While playing for the $harks they showed talent, but played stupid, flat track bully, steroid monkey rugby.
And $ards declared his man love for them.

In his debit column, there were two red cards last season. If he makes it through this season without another one then I'll assume he's matured a bit.Chilli wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:10 pmHe has been nothing short of magnificent in the UK.FalseBayFC wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:06 pm Esterhuizen continuing to show that he's in the top 5 inside centres in world rugby. He also is a very good fit for Quins traditional backline approach which is a big crash ball inside centre and a more nimble outside centre.
