As sure as night follows day, the despicable piece of shit posts her usual "it's not the guns fault"..
Tbf its not the guns fault that the shooter becomes batshit crazy enough to do it.
It is the gun's fault for the scale of the tragedies though. Some dickhead wielding a knife or some other object might take out 1 or 2 people before being taken down you'd like to think. Plus you'd need to be a physically strong person to manhandle people, whereas someone with a gun (and training using it) probably can be a streaky weasel.
The fact that an elected official is coming out with that kind of wank is worrying though.
I always think of it as I much prefer my chances of outrunning a dude with a knife than a bullet.

I've yet to meet anyone who can throw a knife 500 yards at twice the speed of sound at 600 or so knives a minute.
Thankfully.

Let's apply The 5 Whys to the situation.
Why does America have so many mass shootings?
-They have a lot of mentally unstable people with access to guns
Why?
-They are over medicated and the 2nd Amendment gives them the right to bare arms
Why?
-They get bombarded by adverts from Pharma companies on TV, and in a document written 233 years ago the FFs wanted their citizens to be able to rise up against tyranny
Why?
-Pharma companies make a lot of money from this and Americans generally have an inherent wish to improve their station in life, and the FFs distrusted strong forms of government due to the English rule over the colonies
Why?
-Money.
Don't think we need the 5th Why . . .

Given that these events are often followed by significant spikes in gun sales, it's no wonder the NRA and various arms industry lobbyists work so hard to keep firearms as freely accessible as possible.

She's either a fucking nut or on the payroll of some very dodgy characters. Its access to the guns is the issue. In Ireland the Gardai apply the law strictly and it specifically prohibits access to people the GP or local Superintendent deems not fit. The wording is broad in the legislation to allow the super not issue or revoke a certificate with ease:
(b) any person of intemperate habits, and
(c) any person of unsound mind,
Unsurprisingly we have absolutely fuck all gun crime
She's a fucking nut. But she is still playing to an audience.

If by some miracle they managed to get a nationwide ban on the sale of firearms from this point forth it would help to stop the instances of young men 18 - 25 going out and buying their own brand new gun and the ammo to go with, but they still have something like 400 million guns out there with the population and there have been plenty of cases where a young person takes a poorly stored gun of their parents to go on their murder spree.
Monitoring services are also for shit. The Colorado shooting a few days ago (!!) was perpetrated by a teenager who was already on probation for owning a 'ghost gun' two years prior. Not the first time someone already on the radar for problematic behaviour has gone on to do worse. I appreciate that odds are someone will fall through the cracks every now and then, but it feels like it's happened too often for sheer probability to fully account for incidence.

Back in the day you had to nip down to the post office, get an international calling card, and then talk Arabic to Gaddafi, to get yourself an automatic rifle. Then head down to Western Union to send the cash.
Who could be arsed with that shit these days? Probably take the bastard a month or 2 to ship it, and doubt you could send it back and get a refund if you didn't get the colour you wanted.
Fuck that.

The maddest part is the lack of restriction on carrying the things - its one thing to allow people to own guns and to use them for hunting, target shooting etc, it's another to let them to carry a loaded rifle to a pub.

Went to dinner (table of 12) in Houston last month and the average number of guns owned by the table was 28. That number included 4 Brits with no guns at all, plus some guesstimates as the responese were ‘between 40 and 50’.

Not surprised, their per capita gun ownership is crazy high and of course they're not evenly distributed. You occasionally see pictures of collections like the ones you mention pop up online, it's extraordinary to see.
I can just about get my head around thinking you might need a handgun, semi-auto rifle, shotgun and hunting rifle as a spread of weapons for an individual. Maybe a couple of different handguns. Then maybe double that if sharing a living space with another adult, but more than 10 guns for a household seems like a compulsive purchasing problem if nothing else.

I reckon the only way to solve the issue is every time a child dies in a school shooting, you sack the senator from that State and replace him with the opposition member.
They'll vote to bans all assault weapons in about 7 hours.

I don't understand why a civilian needs access to semi-auto assault style weapons. At all. Handguns, aye alright, but nobody needs anything more than that for personal defence.
Tighten access to handguns via checks supported by mental health assessment, and restrict anything bigger than that to single action weapons only. Bolt action hunting rifles will stop anything someone is minded to hunt in the US...

Tbf, I think if you just focused on gun control you'd miss some causes. It's definitely a factor but the US has gone batshit in the last 20 years so I'd say it's also more and more people being disenfranchised by the way society has gone. There's just too much shit to deal with for some.

I've a few mates who almost live for scuba diving, it would be weird for them to send a Christmas card with picture of them in wetsuits.

You have to tie yourself up in knots of bullshit to have created a system where a person being actively treated for an emotional disorder can get a gun. Tbf Americans are so binary these days I see the other side are saying it has nothing to do with the emotional disorder and its just the guns. Nope. Its both. I should add I shot when I was a young lad and would now very periodically go out and let off a few rounds in the general direction of things. It's all about access and safety. Did my dad always lock up the guns safely and away from stupid teenage me? No and then I did a stupid thing and he did. He got lucky and nobody found out as he would never have got a gun again. I remember a local.oul lad started dementing a bit and the day the GP reported it to the Gardai they went around and took his guns. It was the early early stages of dementia but that's the system and it mostly works.
Your father sounds like a typical careless gun-owning parent. Is he American?
Lucky you weren’t a fucked up teenager with issues.

Bullying in High School, destroys students lives, can be so intense it leads to them then to not giving a single fuck (as their whole sense of self is crushed) and then leads to them wanting to take revenge.
Eradicate bullying and save lives.
Eradicate bullying, make school a great experience and you won't have so many terrible shootings.
Problem is teachers are into bullying too.
Kids are not mentally developed enough to deal with bullies emotionally, the brain isn't really in not give a fuck mode till you are like 30.
Words are weapons, you don't have real jobs anymore, just English lit grads using verbose abuse as a money earner.
Sometimes think our whole Capitalist, Right Wing, economic system amd Society itself, is held together with personal abuse and bullying. Don't have to look very far to find evidence of this. It happens when a tiny percentage have all the cash and all the opportunities and don't want to give fuck all away, and want to keep it all, with zero moral justifications.
There are a thousand derogatory words for a poor sick and unemployed person and like none for them.
So as bullying is key to this society, it is inevitable that there is going to be lots of distress, lots of misery and lots of "not give a single fuck" style revenge attacks.
In the U.K. kids use Knives, but it's the same disease.

So it is inevitable that there are going to be victims.
I don't think you can fully eradicate bullying, sadly. I remember calling out a teen in a very nice school on some low-grade bullying in my library once and while giving him a bit of a lecture, it struck me that he was only a few days earlier on stage doing an anti-bullying piece for a whole-school assembly.
It's certainly worth trying, a constant message to be more accepting and inviting of others, to empower them to call out bullying, stand-up for others, band together, etc. ... but some are tough to crack (both bullies and loners who refuse genuine outreach).

I think I know more than most as, as a young, mutant ninja hero guitar player music student, I actually toured South Wales Schools..with an anti bullying rock opera back in 1991 for 3 months, doing 3 shows a day.
One of the rock songs I wrote and performed (called of course " Depression") the lyrics went..
What's the point of getting out of bed,
When all you feel like doing is playing dead,
Everyone thinks you are going outta your head,
But no one seems to care..
What's the point of going to School,
When everyone wants you to play the fool..
I would go and tell a teacher..but uts just not cool..
Being alone the voices
In my head head,
Remind me of the bad times and the things that you said.
So full of hate..
So scared to create..
A life that I want now..
I know its too late..
......Surprised we weren't all bullied abused and or stabbed as soon as we turned up, but the show was actually well recieved..and I got a merit for my performances.
Believe I saved and rescued thousands of kids from being bullied, single handedly, with my music, and shining a light on them there bullies and their bullying ways.
That's the power of Rock n Roll.
Why shootings occur.
