Italy half-backs cost them the game. The forwards must be pissed off...
I didn't think Allan was terrible. Varney was terrible, and leaving him on so long was a very bad decision.

Another point. Very little moaning about the refs on Saturday and play significantly quicker, well done them.

I can't be the only person of a certain age who thought to themselves he's playing more like Reg Varney.

And really looks like Eng aren't as good as they or some thought in any area! I caveat that with I'm a sceptic in regards using these stats in isolation i.e. ignoring context. The shocker for me is Eng's poor tackle rate. Even through the last few years, I'd never had the impression they missed so many tackles.

My Welsh mate disagrees.

But he's one of those where he knows a bit more than the average 6N viewer, not as much as the average PR tragic, and gets very one-eyed. But everyone can sympathise about Dickson, so it was easy enough.

Generally though it made for a pleasant change for the ref to be a total non-factor in the England game. I'm sure mistakes were made but at no point did it feel like anything other than a decent showing.

I see Sexton has to undergo yet another concussion protocol ahead of next Saturday's game. He should consider quitting for his own good.

Furlong, Healy and Gibson-Park already out?

I hadn't realised this before but why is Welsh referee Andrew Brace getting to referee a Wales match? I get that he is working for the IRFU but there are enough refs out there for this not to happen.

I know it has happened with other refs but there is no need really.

Bernol spot on.

Basically the speakers think Jalibert is the correct choice but the headline reads "Jalibert can do what he wants, he will never start".
It's a recognition (finally) amongst many that Ntamack's selection is pure dogma and no amount of factual reality is going to dissuade Galthie and co. from their stupidity. It's England and Youngs all over. When he costs France any chance of a RWC, a new coach might smell the coffee.

Its a big concern tbf. Are there stats anywhere saying how many concussions/suspected concussions players are getting these days? Sexton's concussions per minute played must be pretty high . . .

There is no doubt that Ireland have flogged him since Paddy Jackson got into trouble, rushing him back from x number of injuries, given we have no one close to his calibre for the 10 shirt. We even played him in the makey-uppy Autumn Cup during covid. He'd probably start every game in a 3 test tour to Canada FFS, knowing the IRFU.

I hope to god that he's fine in his post-career life, but if he's not then the IRFU could be in deep shit.

Well, I think the IRFU has probably followed the rules to the letter of the law: not like say, Wales/Saints with North or Noves/Toulouse with Fritz. So the issue of any culpability seems to me unclear. It's not like Sexton couldn't say "I'd like to give these ones a miss". Yes, he is an uber competitor but surely that doesn't abrogate him from taking some responsibility for his own well being? Having seen the Steve Thompson doco, I really hope this never becomes anything more than a hypothetical discussion.

Posting that picture, I mean. You can't even tell if he's touching the face or inches off it, thanks to the perspective. Just as likely that Tipuric is in motion and going for a wrap on the ball.

That doesn't really matter, though. Contact with the eye area is the offence, whether or not its intentional and/or a gouge is reflected in whether the offence is put down as mid or high end.

It's a little way in the past now but in the early 10s it felt like we had a spate of bannings for fairly innocuous contact with the eye area.

Just this autumn he was carded for a trip and he's had a couple of yellows for tip tackles. Nowhere near as bad as three ban Farrell, but Tipuric is no saint.

Not sure if it's a gouge, but definitely seems to get a good grip and pull back on his scrum cap, which is a shitty action in itself.

It's unintentional, and ends up as a rake in the eye area. So it should still be a citing but low end punishment imo.
