I didn't think Allan was terrible. Varney was terrible, and leaving him on so long was a very bad decision.

Agreed - made for good games!Slick wrote: Mon Feb 06, 2023 10:03 am Another point. Very little moaning about the refs on Saturday and play significantly quicker, well done them.
I can't be the only person of a certain age who thought to themselves he's playing more like Reg Varney.Slick wrote: Mon Feb 06, 2023 9:52 amI didn't think Allan was terrible. Varney was terrible, and leaving him on so long was a very bad decision.
My Welsh mate disagrees.
Had a very busy weekend , moving house. You should be thankful, your Saffers specially Duhan has been brilliant. Its a big concern tbf. Are there stats anywhere saying how many concussions/suspected concussions players are getting these days? Sexton's concussions per minute played must be pretty high . . .Torquemada 1420 wrote: Mon Feb 06, 2023 3:31 pm I see Sexton has to undergo yet another concussion protocol ahead of next Saturday's game. He should consider quitting for his own good.
That must be a frequent topic of discussion privately between him and his family. Surely one must draw the line somewhere?Jim Lahey wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 6:35 amIts a big concern tbf. RWC Quarter Final is one achievement he doesn’t have yet. This amused me more than it had any right to. Well, I think the IRFU has probably followed the rules to the letter of the law: not like say, Wales/Saints with North or Noves/Toulouse with Fritz. So the issue of any culpability seems to me unclear. It's not like Sexton couldn't say "I'd like to give these ones a miss". Yes, he is an uber competitor but surely that doesn't abrogate him from taking some responsibility for his own well being? Having seen the Steve Thompson doco, I really hope this never becomes anything more than a hypothetical discussion.Jim Lahey wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 7:56 am There is no doubt that Ireland have flogged him since Paddy Jackson got into trouble, rushing him back from x number of injuries, given we have no one close to his calibre for the 10 shirt. We even played him in the makey-uppy Autumn Cup during covid. He'd probably start every game in a 3 test tour to Canada FFS, knowing the IRFU.
I hope to god that he's fine in his post-career life, but if he's not then the IRFU could be in deep shit.
Enlarge it and you can see the indentations his fingers are making on the face around the eyes !JM2K6 wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 3:16 pm It is.
Posting that picture, I mean. You can't even tell if he's touching the face or inches off it, thanks to the perspective. Just as likely that Tipuric is in motion and going for a wrap on the ball.
That doesn't really matter, though. Contact with the eye area is the offence, whether or not its intentional and/or a gouge is reflected in whether the offence is put down as mid or high end.PornDog wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 3:43 pm Something would have happened by now if it was going to, no?
It's an unfortunate rugby incident, don't believe there was anything remotely malicious on Tips part.
Yeah I get that, it's more that I'm not exactly up in arms that no citing has been made.sockwithaticket wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 3:51 pmThat doesn't really matter, though. It's a little way in the past now but in the early 10s it felt like we had a spate of bannings for fairly innocuous contact with the eye area.
Imagine the uproar if the was an England player - such as Farrell !!!!!PornDog wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:04 pmYeah I get that, it's more that I'm not exactly up in arms that no citing has been made.sockwithaticket wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 3:51 pmThat doesn't really matter, though. I do like a good fist shaking though, so maybe I'll change my mind.

Just this autumn he was carded for a trip and he's had a couple of yellows for tip tackles. Nowhere near as bad as three ban Farrell, but Tipuric is no saint.PornDog wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:40 pmNow that would be worth shaking my fist at in rage!Ovals wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:10 pmImagine the uproar if the was an England player - such as Farrell !!!!!PornDog wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:04 pm

The important difference being that Farrel is a shoulder leading head hunter and Tips is a lovely salt fo the earth type, that knows how to both tackle cleanly and effectively (I know right!)
Doesn't look great.

Not sure if it's a gouge, but definitely seems to get a good grip and pull back on his scrum cap, which is a shitty action in itself.
