Now this is one of the 5% posts of yours where you actually talk some sense. In my neck of the woods, you have to be at work from 8:00. No boss is going to like if you want to work flexible hours, it does not work like that in the platteland.

I am so over teachers and their holier than thou attitude. Lazy vokkers....my kids did probably 8 weeks of 2 days a week schooling last year......

And they are crying because so many of their colleagues died from Covid.....suck it up buttercup....so did everyone lose people. And I guarantee those infections were from kuier and not from work environment....

My daughters teachers at Wynberg High are fantastic. My older one went from getting C's in grade 10 to studying medicine at Stellies. Younger one had awesome online support all of last year and is already receiving the same this year.

As I said...I appreciate there are some good teachers who try....but at my kids school I have to say that they were pathetic. Always an excuse why they couldn't do zoom classes...and I saw one Zoom class just before the kids went back ( it took them that long to do something...were probably bored )...the kids just sit around talking to each other....the teacher does vokkol....
Stress levels for everyone has been very high...I am worried about some of my suppliers who I don't think are going to make it. We are ALL under stress. Most of us are on short wages....I still have not drawn a salary since March last year. Neither my wife. But all my staff and her staff have had their wages....

Please explain the problem to me because I don't get it. So you drop your kid off at school at 07:30 and they sit around until school officially opens at 08:30? Nobody is saying to have to drop your kid off at 08:25, travel back in time and arrive at work at 08:00.

I recall my parents having to drop me off at 07:00 as a kid (to dodge their commute traffic) and school only starting at 08:00. It gave me an hour to do the homework I didn't do the day before, or play soccer with the other kids that were also early. Please educate me.

Though time to be a teacher, doubly so if you are a teacher with your own kids at home. I can't even imagine the stress and chaos. I barely held it together and I had it easy with my home setup.

Procedure...your kid goes through a screening process at the allocated time to check temperature. If your kid has a temperature you have to take them home. So not a case of just dropping them off senor.

My GF is a noted concert pianist and composer with a significant body of work whose music gets played regularly on Classic FM (including music for one film nominated for an Oscar).

She started teaching piano a few years ago at an upmarket private girl's school.

Exactly Fangle. Very good point. A teacher is trained to teach a class. Surely that can translate into digital classes. It can't be that difficult to get the teachers to prepare a video class each day in a particular subject.
But no...they don't have the skills. They don't have wifi...
Most schools have a computer room and computer teacher. My kid is head computer monitor and he sets up all the computers for the teachers with his assistants. He can prepare a video and has made some really touching videos during lockdown. He made his brother a video for his birthday because the young one couldn't have a party. He got all my youngest kids friends to send a video clip and he edited into a birthday video...it was beautiful. He has taken the time to learn video editing .... the teachers could have done the same.....you would think. One teacher at the school did...sadly not one of my kids

All thats required is one class a day. Then you build a library of these classes and use it next year. I kinda understand that this makes the teacher obsolete...but they can be there for support online. The education department could have required that the teachers get allocated a chapter in a subject to prepare a class, and with all the teachers around doing nothing a digital classroom of a subject could be made and presented to the parents to give to their kids. What we got was ....teach your kids chapter 2 to chapter 6 and let them do a self marked test and submit it to us....thats a cop out and putting everything on the parents who are working every day and struggling to find someone to look after the kids each day
