COVID-19 in SOUTH AFRICA
And don't let me get started on Load vokken Shedding...
At home I dont give a vok...I have an inverter...lasts more than 6 hours so give it your best shot ASSHOLES
But now you increase the trading hours and allow alcohol and then you vok up all the restaurants with your vokken load shedding....
Thankfully all my wifes cooking is on charcoal so electricity is not an issue...and Mr D and Uber are on sim and wifi ...but what about the rest.....

My daughters teachers at Wynberg High are fantastic. My older one went from getting C's in grade 10 to studying medicine at Stellies. Younger one had awesome online support all of last year and is already receiving the same this year.Sards wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 1:54 pmI am so over teachers and their holier than thou attitude. Teachers took a huge pay cut though. Anyways, I took my two out of school with the first lockdown. After receiving a kak letter from the school basically threatening parents to still pay school fees even though the kids were forced to be at home did it for me. They're now full time homeschooled until further notice. Probably only look at it for high school again.
Look. I realize there are some great teachers, but in general, lazy vokkers....
At our school teachers couldn't do online schooling because their wifi reception was poor. And they didn't have wifi at home. And because they were stuck on a farm with their family and didn't have the tools with them to do it....
I also refused to pay full school fees...I paid half...told them that if we had to do 3 days a week of schooling for them I saw no reason why I should pay them for it..
Then you hear about what heros the teachers are and I just vokken laugh....

I'm married to a teacher. When schools closed they had to go to online learning which some teachers were good at an other struggled. Had to take a paycut, and when not delivering lessons she was marking and doing one-on-one. Ended up putting in more hours than ever before, usually 12 hour days and weekends.
On top of this she had to manage our two kids who were also doing online learning, one was fine with it and the other struggled. In between her own online lessons she had to jump onto their calls and help with their homework.
The stress levels for teachers have been through the roof, and are on the receiving end of angry parents not wanting to pay full school fees yet expecting world-class teaching through Zoom. Many of her teacher friends both in SA and England have resigned from teaching, and a lot of schools face a critical shortage of teachers.
Be patient with your kids teachers and schools. This whole situation is fucked up for everyone.

As I said...I appreciate there are some good teachers who try....but at my kids school I have to say that they were pathetic. Always an excuse why they couldn't do zoom classes...and I saw one Zoom class just before the kids went back ( it took them that long to do something...were probably bored )...the kids just sit around talking to each other....the teacher does vokkol....assfly wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:17 pm I'm married to a teacher. Stress levels for everyone has been very high...I am worried about some of my suppliers who I don't think are going to make it. We are ALL under stress. Most of us are on short wages....I still have not drawn a salary since March last year. Neither my wife. But all my staff and her staff have had their wages....
Anyway that traffic put me in a mood and the pappegaai twao is kicking in now and I am relaxing again...
Peace brothers.....and Sister Sandy
Please explain the problem to me because I don't get it. So you drop your kid off at school at 07:30 and they sit around until school officially opens at 08:30? Nobody is saying to have to drop your kid off at 08:25, travel back in time and arrive at work at 08:00.handyman wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 12:15 pmNow this is one of the 5% posts of yours where you actually talk some sense. I recall my parents having to drop me off at 07:00 as a kid (to dodge their commute traffic) and school only starting at 08:00. It gave me an hour to do the homework I didn't do the day before, or play soccer with the other kids that were also early. Please educate me.

Though time to be a teacher, doubly so if you are a teacher with your own kids at home. I can't even imagine the stress and chaos. I barely held it together and I had it easy with my home setup.
Kudos to you and your wife.

Procedure...your kid goes through a screening process at the allocated time to check temperature. If your kid has a temperature you have to take them home. So not a case of just dropping them off senor.

My GF is a noted concert pianist and composer with a significant body of work whose music gets played regularly on Classic FM (including music for one film nominated for an Oscar).
She started teaching piano a few years ago at an upmarket private girl's school.
Sard's generalisation of teachers as idle layabouts is as insulting as it is ill-informed.
Please...they are permanently on leave....and don't give me that crap that they are overworked. Come work with me for a day.
I wish I could take as many days leave in a year....
And don't talk about having to deal with our kids...we have been dealing with our kids the majority of last year without their help....
When they worked we dealt with them 5 days out of 7...so suck it up buttercup...its a job.
Once again. There are teachers that worked hard. The majority milked lockdown to its fullest.

Trust me. It's the current sentiment here.
Just remember. Parents have had to hold jobs, take care of and educate the children. And somehow now teachers want us to change our work times to accommodate them...who have been on leave since early December...
I think its a bloody cheek.

All I hear is problems and complaining. Simple solution: buy your own damn thermometer and take their temp before leaving the house. In the unlikely case they develop a fever in the hour between when you measured and the school measures...just go fetch them. It’s not rocket science.Sards wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 3:12 pm You obviously don't have kids...

You are talking through your arse again. Take a kid to school one day and educate yourself.Blake wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 7:08 pmAll I hear is problems and complaining. Cutting.
Hell..
The fact that you are a Province supporter explains it all....you live in a safe place and just take it without questions.
Let's put it in simplistic terms. You go buy a burger and they don't give you the top bun and dressings. Will you pay for a whole burger....hell no...(unless you are a Province supporter of course)
And you have worked the whole week to enjoy that burger and when you ask whats going on they say..." hey I am tired and overworked...put it on yourself...".....hell no.
The biggest problem for me is that schools are at such a premium that they don't give a vok...because there are so many kids waiting in line to get an education because this country is so vokked up.

I would think that teaching a class of 20 - 30 kids remotely is very difficult. Trying to control and interest kids over the internet and keep their interest up for 20 minutes at a time must be very stressful. And keep this going for 6 - 8 hours daily. And instead of preparing a normal class, you have to prepare digital classes every day, especially for the first year is a new approach and daily you learn what works and what doesn’t.
Unlike Sards, I am not envious of them.

Exactly Fangle. Very good point. A teacher is trained to teach a class. Surely that can translate into digital classes. It can't be that difficult to get the teachers to prepare a video class each day in a particular subject.Fangle wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 8:37 pm I would think that teaching a class of 20 - 30 kids remotely is very difficult. But no...they don't have the skills. They don't have wifi...
Most schools have a computer room and computer teacher. My kid is head computer monitor and he sets up all the computers for the teachers with his assistants. He can prepare a video and has made some really touching videos during lockdown. He made his brother a video for his birthday because the young one couldn't have a party. He got all my youngest kids friends to send a video clip and he edited into a birthday video...it was beautiful. He has taken the time to learn video editing .... the teachers could have done the same.....you would think. One teacher at the school did...sadly not one of my kids
teacher. It was circulated amongst all the parents and was great...
You move with the times. All of us did online courses during hard lockdown. In different fields. To assist us going forward in a Covid world.
I lay most of the blame on the education department. They could have done better instead of taking extended holiday after extended holiday.
At the end of the day...as a parent...its heart breaking to see your children become gaming zombies because there is nothing else for them to do....
To prepare a class properly takes hours. I know having taught for a few years. To prepare half a dozen classes a day would kill me. This is over and beyond trying to control the children remotely when it’s hard enough to impose your presence on them in the classroom. To do your job properly would take upwards of 14 hours of stress a day. It’s no doddle.
To teach remotely is very different from being live in a classroom.

The time you spend on zolle and on NPR posting kak
should be spend with your kids. Don't let him watch TV and don't buy him a laptop or cell phone.
That's the problem being a poes like yourself
All thats required is one class a day. Then you build a library of these classes and use it next year. I kinda understand that this makes the teacher obsolete...but they can be there for support online. The education department could have required that the teachers get allocated a chapter in a subject to prepare a class, and with all the teachers around doing nothing a digital classroom of a subject could be made and presented to the parents to give to their kids. What we got was ....teach your kids chapter 2 to chapter 6 and let them do a self marked test and submit it to us....thats a cop out and putting everything on the parents who are working every day and struggling to find someone to look after the kids each dayFangle wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:28 pm To prepare a class properly takes hours. My mates and I are very frustrated about how the last year was handled for our children. We are angry that not enough of an attempt was made. And angry that so much time was just wasted on holiday without anything productive coming out of it....
A little while ago my eldest had a group of friends around. After a swim they pulled out my casino chips and black jack set for a game. 2 kids out of the 6 couldn't play because they couldn't add up to 21...and these are 12 year olds...it was so sad to see. Is this how we want our kids to grow up.
End 9f rant.

But birds are emotional beasts...don't focus on facts
If teaching were as simple as Sards makes out, I probably wouldn’t have left it. But I found it to be an all consuming task if you tried to fo it properly. Yeah - just imagine only preparing for one class a day and winging the rest. There are teachers like that, I guess, but not the good ones.

Nothing will be the same Online teaching, work from home is the new normal.
