They do football and ice hockey, but I’m not sure if the ice hockey season has started yet.

The French Top 14 is on Prem, but it’s dire a lot of the time.

That wasn't top line New Zealand going full bore, so you wonder what the point is.

It might have been better to have had a development side playing, I don't know what the answer is to the question of getting the 11 to 25 rankings up to being competitive with the top ten.

WR are chasing US tv money, but there won't be any take up if they are going to be pumped like that by a top side taking it easy.

What can WR do?

This is rhetorical, not asking you in particular.

To do what?

I'm in favour of Tier 1 only putting A sides out against Tier 2 atm. There's barely any of them worth giving a proper test to.

Well, as long as there is our silo comps of Rugby Championship and Six Nations, it won’t change. But none of us want to dismantle it.

I personally think that it is a pipe dream that Rugby will ever be a worldwide sport. Rugby needs to concentrate on where they are strong and currently have strong footholds. I would include the USA and Canada on that but if World Rugby are not careful it could die in Canada.

Got nothing to do with it. These nations will improve from the grassroots up with expanded pro player bases and those players gradually increasing their standard of week in week out play.

Tinkering around with tests at the top level won't change anything.

Fun watch.

FFS Flapanara. Even for opposition down at this level he was still bug-eyed overly-frenetic and rogering shit up.

Surely, and fittingly, that is the match where George Bridge's AB "career" dies.

No fan of his but DMac was hell on skates in this type of match. My MOTM

Ennor looked a bit rubbish/rusty when in the centres

God I hope Coles supplants Taylor

Agree with all your points, DP. Was never a big Bridge fan to start with, but even coming back from injury he's been rubbish this year. Perenara's been an ABs halfback for 7 years but still looks like he's chucking around sacks of spuds at times. And I'm still not sure what Ennor brings apart from strength and straight line speed. He doesn't like passing the ball much for a supposed centre.

I did make it, waking up for the last 10mins of the first half and watching the entire second half, but in bed with the laptop so had to be quiet.

Much as expected and some of the new lads had good games: de Groot, Christie, Tupaea and Vaa’i but it is hard to assess because of the weakness of the opposition. Bridge seemed really out of sorts, not going looking for work the way he usually does. QT was excellent at 12, TJP sucks big hairy balls — he should have stayed in Japan, a game designed to make DMac look good, Jacobson very energetic, great to see Big and Little Sam both back.

I would prefer Ioane at 11 and Jordan/Reece at 14, JB at 15.

I don't think the club game will die. I'd argue the majority of kids who play in school and even adults in clubs barely watch the national teams play, unless it's World Cup or Olympics. The women and men tanking in the Olympics had a 'oh well, nice try' reaction for the most part and, as far as I can tell, most haven't noticed/cared that the men's XVs failed to qualify for the next RWC. Pop into the socials of those announcements and there are a small handful of passionate but fairly powerless individuals screaming murder, but there's been no mass uprising to change a thing. People will still have fun playing bang average (or poor) quality rugby for shits and giggles and a few brews later even if the national teams got a bit worse.

Sure it's mentioned above but all I could think watching the highlights is 'what's the point?'.
Does USA rugby really get a pay day from hosting the ABs worth that humiliation? Do any American kids get inspired to take up the game as their national team has a hundred put on them by a small nation? Can't be good for the TV networks either.

Surely it would be better to market effectively a game against say Italy where the US has half a chance and at least isn't going to be utterly pummelled.

How easy would it be marketing a game against the sixth best team in Europe?

How many Americans know or care about the ABs? Most of the emphasis is surely on getting Americans behind their own team, but I deliberately suggested Italy as a larger country.

Well, enough Americans know about the ABs for some Republican bloke to market the game in Congress last week and call them the most successful sports "club" in history (!!!)

Americans are nothing if not aspirational. Are they likely to be put off by the lop-sided scoreline of the game? Possibly. But surely some of them (the important ones) would come away from the game thinking "that was a great spectacle, and that's the standard we need to reach to compete with the best." I doubt watching their team get a 20 or 30 point humping by Italy in a game featuring 68 scrums and mauls would be more appealing to them.
